The leader of the Portuguese Protectorate Movement Lunda Tchokwe (MPPLT), José Mateus, known as Zeca Mutchima, and the 24 co-accused have been sentenced to four years and six months in prison for alleged involvement in acts of terrorism. Judge Salvador Freire has stated that Mutchima and his co-accused have been charged due to being involved in the MPPLT group and carrying out several offences in the country. The suspects have been accused of the crimes of association of criminals, armed rebellion, dismaying the law on 28 January 2021. The District Court of Chitato acquitted the foreign defendants from the Democratic Republic of Congo and will repatriate them to their country of origin.
