DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO – ITURI – DJUGU – ANNOUNCEMENT 13 JAN 2022 (07:30)

The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) has announced that it has opened a temporary base in Drodro in the Ituri province. This move facilitates the return of internally displaced persons (IDP) following the Co-operative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) attacks against villages in the area. This follows after the villages in Drodro and Tché had been targeted in November 2021, which led to the death of 44 civilians in Drodro, and more than 1,200 shelters had been destroyed, as well as nearly 1,000 shelters had been destroyed in Tché. MONUSCO has urged the need to cooperate through a community alert network that has been set up in the areas. In addition, MONUSCO has promised to supply fuel each month and for 90 days to 6 community radios in Komanda and Aveba in the Irumu territory in Ituri.
