About 20 people have died, and 11 others sustained injuries after a vessel caught fire at the Ngafura Port on the Congo River on Sunday, 27 February 2022. The Interior Minister, Didier Tenge, has stated that the vessel was loaded with flammable products and was boarding to the êquateur province. Tenge has reiterated that boarding cargo vessels by passengers are prohibited in the country. This incident follows after 55 people died when an overloaded boat sank on the Congo River in the northern Mongala province.
