• EAST LONDON – 06 JUN 2022 (06H00) The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in the Eastern Cape is expected to hold a press conference with alliance partners today, 06 June 2022. The conference will focus on issues affecting workers and service delivery, particularly at the Amathole District Municipality.
• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 06 JUN 2022 (10H50) Protest reported outside New Brighton Magistrate’s Court. The demonstrators are protesting to demand justice for Olwethu Gaju. Xolisa Tyombo is expected to appear the court for the murder of Gaju. The demonstrators have obstructed the entrance of the court. Motorists are advised to avoid and use alternative routes. • IBHAYI – 06 JUN 2022 (16H20) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed on the R75/ Uitenhage Road. Residents from Govan Mbeki Village have been demanding that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality provide electricity, water, and toilets and relocate some of their informal housing to municipal service sites. The Govan Mbeki Village is overcrowded and has a shortage of essential services for all households. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (07H15) Protest reported on R75 at Chatty Dip. SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 06 JUN 2022
• VIRGINIA – 06 JUN 2022 (18H00) Renergen, a helium and natural gas producer, has signed a retainer letter with the United States (US) International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) for a possible $500-million loan to finance the Phase 2 development of the company’s Virginia gas project in the Free State province. DFC provided $40-million in financing for Phase 1 operations and is currently screening the proposal for Phase 2 financing. Renergen stated that it is considering co-lenders alongside DFC, after receiving multiple letters of intent from additional lenders. Renergen plans to secure 65% debt funding for Phase 2. The Virginia gas project spans 187,000 hectares of gas fields across Welkom, Virginia and Theunissen, in the Free State. The full project entails the construction of a 52 km gas-gathering pipeline and cryogenic liquefication processing facilities. Phase 1 is expected to produce 350 kg/d of helium and 50 t/d of liquefied natural gas, with Phase 2 earmarked to increase these numbers. Phase 1 plant was commissioned on 30 May 2022.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 06 JUN 2022
• JOHANNESBURG – 06 JUN 2022 (04H00) Midrand Police have issued an alert to motorists travelling on Allandale Road to remain vigilant of criminals impersonating Police officers operating in the area. Midrand Police Spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane has stated that other targeted roads include the N1, New Road, Le Roux Avenue and the R55. This follows several hijacking cases opened at the Midrand Police Station by individuals alleging that Police officers are halting motorists with the intent to rob them of their personal belongings. Residents have mentioned the same modus operandi used by suspects during hijackings in which the criminals use flashing blue lights to halt motorists. Brigadier Molefi Tsotsotso has reportedly tasked an intelligence team to investigate the matter. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when travelling on the affected routes.
• AKASIA – 06 JUN 2022 (06H25) Protest reported on Rosslyn Road/ R566 in the vicinity of Bokfontein informal settlement. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• SOSHANGUVE – 06 JUN 2022 (08H20) Protest reported in Marikana Tswaying Ward 13 outside Soshanguve. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The situation is volatile. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• JOHANNESBURG – 06 JUN 2022 (12H05) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold the EFF Press Conference on Tuesday, 07 June 2022, from 12H00 at the Winnie Madikizela Mandela House. The EFF Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to address during the conference.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 06 JUN 2022 (13H50) The industrial strike by National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) at the South African Revenue Service (SARS) continues as the union waits for engagements with the employer. The strike has been ongoing for two weeks. The employees are demanding a 12% wage increase. SARS stated that it cannot afford to pay the workers any increases. However, SARS offered a 1.3% wage increase. NEHAWU has been engaging with the employer since Friday, 03 June 2022.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 06 JUN 2022 (15H50) Targeted murder reported in Laudium. An unknown number of suspects fatally shot and killed a victim. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Emergency services have been dispatched to the scene.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 06 JUN 2022 (16H45) UPDATE Management at the Lion Match factory in Rosslyn has denied claims by the Tshwane Bahlali Dudula Movement that they are hiring more foreign nationals than South Africans. The company has called on the Labour Department to inspect their employment files. (12H50) Protest reported outside Lion Match company. Tshwane residents are demanding that the company employ South African nationals. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the company. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• JOHANNESBURG – 06 JUN 2022 (17H15) Shooting reported on Village Road between Simmonds Street and Loveday Street in the Selby area. The roads are expected to be closed for investigation. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use Simmonds Street, Eloff Street and Webber Street as alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

(06H00) Protest expected on the R103 in the vicinity of Lions River between Howick and Lidgetton today, 06 June 2022, from 06H00. Community members are expected to embark on a protest action to demand improved service delivery in the town. • BURGERSFORT – 06 JUN 2022 (12H15) Protest reported outside Two Rivers Platinum Mine. Previous demonstrations have been related to employment matters. • LEPHALALE – 06 JUN 2022 (14H30) The Democratic Alliance (DA) is opposing the 60% water tariff increase in Lephalale Local Municipality. The municipality placed a proposal for a 60% water tariff increase before the council on 31 May 2022. The municipality has since issued a public notice last week stating its intentions to consider incrementing fees, tariffs, and charges for implementation from 01 July 2022 to 30 June 2023. DA Caucus Whip for Lephalale Local Municipality, Sybil Niewoudt, stated that the reasons provided for the increase are to service a historical debt of over R133 million plus interest of more than R25 million to the Department of Water and Sanitation for the abstraction of raw water from the Mokolo Dam. The DA is therefore appealing to all residents to attend the Public Participation meeting set to take place on 22 June 2022 to oppose the proposed 60% water tariff increase by the municipality

• MIDDELBURG – 06 JUN 2022 (15H20) The Middelburg High Court has found the fifth accused and leader of the National Christian Resistance Movement, known as Crusaders, Harry Johannes Knoesen, guilty of contravention of the Protection of Constitutional Democracy Against Terrorism and Related Matters Act. Knoesen and accomplices were arrested for preparing and planning terrorist attacks on government institutions and the African population in South Africa (SA) on 28 November 2019. Hawks’ Spokesperson Katlego Mogale stated that the accused was leading and forming part of the Crusaders organisation that planned and conspired to overthrow the democratically elected government of SA and replace it with a government led by the organisation.

• POTCHEFSTROOM – 06 JUN 2022 (07H10) Protest expected by community members today, 06 June 2022, at the JB Marks Municipality offices. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the park near the Tramonto apartment building from 08H30. The demonstrators are expected to march to the municipal building to demand the Municipal Managers. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. • GARIES – 06 JUN 2022 (09H30) The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a high alert on severe wildfire expected over the Western region of the Namakwa district for today, 06 June 2022. The affected areas would include Kamiesberg /Garies. Nama Khoi/ Springbok, Richtersveld/ Alexanders Bay, Matzikama /Vredendal. Conditions of the Fire Danger Index (FDI) are recorded at above 75 and may develop and spread rapidly, resulting in damage to property and possible loss of human or animal life. Members of the public are advised to remain cautious. Emergency rescue operations are on high alert for possible disruptions in the Namakwa District.

• CAPE TOWN – 06 JUN 2022 (12H25) UPDATE The Magistrate Court has postponed against five men arrested in connection with the killing of an e-hailing driver, Abongile Mafalala, has been postponed until Monday, 13 June 2022. (11H00) Protest reported outside Wynberg Magistrates Court. The demonstrators are protesting to demand justice for Abongile Mafalala. Mafalala was killed during a mob justice attack in Parkwood. The demonstrators have obstructed the entrance of the court. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• CAPE TOWN – 06 JUN 2022 (15H00) The Western Cape High Court has postponed the murder case of eight-year-old Tazne van Wyk to Wednesday, 08 June 2022. This follows after the accused has been assaulted by two men in the truck en route from Pollsmoor Prison this morning, 06 June 2022. The accused needed urgent medical attention. The accused allegedly killed the victim near her residence in February 2020, and more than a week later, Police arrested the accused in Cradock, Eastern Cape.
