SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 08 JUN 2022
• CATHCART – 07 JUN 2022 (21H30) Motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling on the N6 in the vicinity of Cathcart. This follows reports of stone-throwing by unidentified suspects targeting vehicles travelling in the area. Police have been dispatched to investigate the matter.
• BUTTERWORTH – 08 JUN 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by Economic Freedom and community members of Butterworth in Ward 3 at the Mnquma Local Municipality today, 08 June 2022, from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against evictions and lack of service delivery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• BETHELSDORP – 08 JUN 2022 (09H35) Protest reported outside the Sapphire Road Primary School. Parents are protesting to demand the Provincial Department of Education’s intervention to repair the ablution facility that burnt down in October 2021, which resulted in the school using one block of ablution facility for 1120 pupils. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the school. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 08 JUN 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 08 JUN 2022 (08H10) The Provincial Government is expected to launch the Free State Youth Month programme 2022 on Thursday, 09 June 2022, at the OR Tambo House from 10H00. Premier Sisi Ntombela is expected to engage with the Free State bursary scheme graduates.

• KEMPTON PARK – 07 JUN 2022 (19H50) The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) met with Comair management today, 07 June 2022, to discuss the company’s future. This follows after Comair, which operates Kulula and British Airways in South Africa, suspended operations due to the lack of funding. NUMSA Spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola stated that Comair disclosed being in an alarming financial state and the need to secure an investor as soon as possible. The union will contact the Department of Labour to assist with a training layoff scheme for the staff.
• CARLETONVILLE – 07 JUN 2022 (20H15) Harmony Gold has reported a fatality at its Kusasalethu mine near Carletonville caused by an engineering-related incident on Monday afternoon 06 June 2022. The fatality comes a month after four workers lost their lives at the same mine as a result of a mudslide. The relevant authorities have been informed of the incident, and an investigation is underway. The mine held a safety day at Kusasalethu today, 07 June 2022, where safety messages were reinforced, and the importance of the miners’ safety, and accountability values were emphasised.
• SOWETO – 08 JUN 2022 (06H20) Protest reported on Chris Hani Road between Thokoza Park and Moroka Police Station. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • PIETERMARITZBURG – 07 JUN 2022 (19H40) Business robbery reported at a butchery on Church Street in Pietermaritzburg. Four armed suspects robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of money and items. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
• DURBAN – 08 JUN 2022 (08H20) Protest reported at Imvubupark in the vicinity of Chateau Gateaux. The demonstrators have barricaded the area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 08 JUN 2022
• MUSINA – 07 JUN 2022 (22H15) The Louis Trichardt (LTT) Musina Taxi Association has announced that regular transport operations are scheduled to resume from Wednesday, 08 June 2022. This follows after an estimated 50 taxi operators embarked on a taxi protest motorcade from Louis Trichardt to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety offices in Polokwane, demanding the implementation of a 2019 court order issued by the Polokwane High Court regarding operating routes in Musina. The order relates to the ongoing conflict between the LTT Musina Taxi Association and the Beitbridge Taxi Association regarding operating routes.
• PHALABORWA – 08 JUN 2022 (07H20) Protest reported on the R71 between Lulekani and Namakgale. The demonstrators are protesting against a shortage of employment opportunities, nepotism and corruption. The demonstrators are calling for the disbandment of the current Ba-Phalaborwa Community Forum (BCF) committee and its sub-structures. SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 08 JUN 2022
• MBOMBELA/ NELSPRUIT – 07 JUN 2022 (20H00) Mpumalanga Human Settlements Member of Executive Council (MEC), Speedy Mashilo has welcomed the efforts of the law enforcement agencies to address housing fraud. This follows the arrest of three alleged Subsidised Housing (RDP) fraudsters, who were arrested on Friday, 03 June 2022, on charges of fraud and corruption and later released on bail. Spokesperson, Freddy Ngobe stated that the department had been troubled with the issue of illegal selling of RDP houses and fraud. The department is expected to intensify its campaigns against fraud in RDP houses.
• MBOMBELA/ NELSPRUIT – 07 JUN 2022 (22H00) Mpumalanga Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Head Samukelo Ngubane and three other co-accused are scheduled to appear before the Nelspruit Magistrates Court on 28 July 2022. This follows after Ngubane had recently been detained by the South African Police Services’ Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) on charges relating to the irregular awarding of an R5,9 million contract to supply Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Ngubane has since appeared before the Nelspruit Court and released on R10,000 bail. Mpumalanga Hawks Spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi has stated that Ngubane contravened the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) while employed as an accounting officer of the Department during the awarding of the tender. Previously, the Hawks also arrested the Department’s Deputy Director, Raymond Manzini, his relative Chris Manzini, and the Director of Gatjeni Trading, Moses Ndlovu, on similar charges relating to the tender. The three accused have since been released on R15,000 bail each by the Court, with their cases postponed until 28 July 2022 to appear alongside Ngubane.

• KIMBERLEY – 07 JUN 2022 (20H30) Sol Plaatje Metropolitan Municipality Executive Mayor Kagisho Sonyoni has approved the 2022/23 annual budget during a special council meeting today, 07 June 2022. The Council has amended the electricity tariff that was initially proposed at a 6,82% and has instead approved a 4,5% increase. Consumers will be billed a basic demand and capacity charge from 01 July 2022, where indigents will be exempted. Additional increases that have been approved include water, sanitation, sewerage and rates by 4%.
• VOLLGRAAFFSIG – 08 JUN 2022 (08H45) Protest reported on the N10 between Vollgraaffsig and Groblershoop. Students of Groblershoop High School are protesting to demand the Government to provide them with a school bus transport. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. • CAPE TOWN – 08 JUN 2022 (06H05) Peaceful protest expected on the M14 in Richwood today, 08 June 2022, from 16H30 until 18H00. Members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) are expected to gather at the corner of Plattekloof Road and Tygerberg Valley Road and march on the M14 towards the intersection at the Aston Energy Caltex entrance. Demonstrators are expected to protest against the fuel increases. Motorists are advised to be vigilant and use alternative routes during the march. Police will be dispatched to the scene.
