• JOHANNESBURG – 09 JUN 2022 (06H00) Unrest expected from today, 09 June 2022, by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members. EFF Commander in Chief (CIC) Julius Malema has called on EFF members to gather in support of calls for President Cyril Ramaphosa to resign with immediate effect. Malema stated that President Ramaphosa had not respected his oath of office and rejected President Ramaphosa’s response to the burglary and theft at his Phala Phala Farm. The severity of demonstrations can vary at locations. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be deployed to monitor areas.
• ALBERTON – 09 JUN 2022 (07H10) Protest reported outside Africa Steel and Tube Company in Alrode. The demonstrators are protesting to demand salary increases and against ill-treatment. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the workplace. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 09 JUN 2022 (12H35) The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has announced that law enforcement will be on high alert on Friday, 10 June 2022, amid threats of a national shutdown. This follows after circulating messages and posters on social media platforms calling for a national shutdown. Motorists are advised to remain cautious. Police will be deployed to various areas.
• JOHANNESBURG – 09 JUN 2022 (13H00) Shooting reported at Tashas restaurant, Rosebank Mall. Reports indicated that two unidentified suspects opened fire on a civilian. The reason for the shooting is unknown at this stage. One fatality has been reported. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 09 JUN 2022 (17H45) President Cyril Ramaphosa has suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane from office effective from today, 09 June 2022. Ramaphosa has asked Mkhwebane to provide him with reasons why he should not suspend her in terms of Section 194(3)(a) of the Constitution on 17 March 2022. This follows confirmation from the Speaker of the National Assembly that the Section 194 Committee has resolved to continue with its consideration of the motion for the removal of the Public Protector.
• SOWETO – 09 JUN 2022 (17H50) Protest reported on Chris Hani Road/ M68 between Moroka Police Station and the Mosque. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • PIETERMARITZBURG – 09 JUN 2022 (06H20) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) members of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Pietermaritzburg Campus today, 09 June 2022, at the Provincial Legislature. The EFFSC members are expected to gather at the Alan Paton Main Entrance from 10H00 and proceed with their march from 11H30. The EFFSC members are expected to march to the Provincial Legislature to hand over a memorandum to the Provincial Speaker’s Representative. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 13H30. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• DURBAN – 09 JUN 2022 (06H30) Protest reported at Edgewood campus. Students have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstrators are protesting unpaid National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowances. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• XIMBA – 09 JUN 2022 (08H40) Protest reported on the MR566 Road in the vicinity of KwaXimba. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. • PIETERMARITZBURG – 09 JUN 2022 (14H20) The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in KwaZulu-Natal has distanced itself from the national shutdown, which is expected to take place on Friday, 10 June 2022. SANTACO informed taxi operators and drivers that it will not participate in the strike. However, SANTACO leadership demand to meet with the Provincial Executive Council led by the KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sihle Zikalala, on Friday to address the current challenges faced by the taxi industry, including the fuel increases.

• MUSINA – 09 JUN 2022 (15H20) The Beitbridge Taxi Association has prevented the Louis Trichardt (LTT) Musina Taxi Association from loading passengers at the Musina taxi rank today, 09 June 2022. Musina Taxi Association Chairperson stated that the taxi operators left the taxi rank to hold a meeting on how to address the matter. This follows after the Department of Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo had agreed to usher taxi operators under the LTT Musina Taxi Association back into the taxi rank, as it sought to implement a 2019 court order issued by the Polokwane High Court over operating routes in Musina.

• MBOMBELA/ NELSPRUIT – 09 JUN 2022 (14H00) UPDATE The Nelspruit Magistrate Court has postponed the court case to 22 July 2022 for further investigation. The accused remain in police custody. • KLERKSDORP – 09 JUN 2022 (13H50) Protest reported in Jouberton at the entrance of BOSASA Youth Care Centre and roads around Extension 10. Taxi operators have been protesting against the roadblocks by the Klerksdorp Traffic Department. Taxi operators stated that they cannot be forced to pay traffic fines considering vehicle costs due to the poor road conditions. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. • RUSTENBURG – 09 JUN 2022 (15H15) Rustenburg Local Municipality announced a scheduled power interruption from 11 June 2022 until 12 June 2022 between 08H00 and 16H00. The time will be used to conduct emergency repairs on the Eskom Trident/ Rustenburg Industries power lines. Areas supplied by the Industries Substation will be affected.

• BARKLY WEST – 09 JUN 2022 (16H00) Community members held a service delivery march on the R31 in Barkly West today, 09 June 2022 and Wednesday, 08 June 2022. Freight transport operators have been blocked in Barkly West, Windsorton and Delportshoop. The demonstrators are protesting against poor road infrastructure, accusing heavy-duty trucks of damaging the road. The demonstrators are demanding that a weighbridge be installed. Police are monitoring the situation.
• POSTMASBURG – 09 JUN 2022 (16H45) Fire reported at Tsantsabane Recycling in the Industrial area. Approximately five trucks are on fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. • CAPE TOWN – 09 JUN 2022 (05H20) Protest reported on Symphony Way, approaching Bergville, in the vicinity of Delft, Cape Town. Mafe faces charges of arson and terrorism relating to the incident.
