SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 16 JUN 2022
• GRAAFF-REINET – 15 JUN 2022 (22H00) Motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling in the Eastern Cape province’s northern region due to reports of ongoing snowfall. Provincial Transport Department Spokesperson Unathi Binqose has confirmed that all roads currently remain open to traffic. However, motorists travelling on mountain passes are advised to remain vigilant due to slippery conditions. This follows after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 weather warning for high-lying areas of the province between 15 June 2022 and 16 June 2022. The affected regions include Graaff-Reinet and Hogsback.
• MTHATHA – 16 JUN 2022 (06H20) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver a keynote address at the Youth Day Commemoration today, 16 June 2022, at the Mthatha Stadium from 10H00. The Youth Day Commemoration will be celebrated under the theme of Promoting sustainable livelihood and resilience of young people for a better tomorrow. Ramaphosa is also expected to deliver an update on the Presidential initiatives aimed at stimulating youth employment.
• GQEBERHA/ PORT ELIZABETH – 16 JUN 2022 (06H35) Protest expected at the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) office in front of the Kwantu Towers today, 16 June 2022, from 09H30. The Democratic Alliance (DA) are demanding the disbandment of the NYDA. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during the protest. Police will be deployed to the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 16 JUN 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 15 JUN 2022 (21H00) The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has announced that investigations have been launched into 15 Free State Municipalities concerning allegations of contravening the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA). The municipalities include the Theunissen-based Masilonyana Municipality, Welkom-based Matjhabeng Municipality, and the Qwaqwa-based Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality. The Hawks are also investigating a case of alleged fraud and corruption at the central depot of Bloemfontein’s Mangaung Metro’s Solid Waste Management Sub-Directorate. The announcement follows a recent presentation at the Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on the status of criminal cases opened in terms of Section 106 of the Local Government, Municipal Systems Act. The Hawks have stated that the criminal cases emanate from findings made by the Auditor-General (AG), Tsakani Maluleke, following complaints registered by Municipal Managers (MM), whistleblowers, service providers, and general complaints received from the public. The other municipalities include Ntekoane, Kopanong, Metsimaholo, Ngwathe, Lejweleputswa, Nala, Dihlabeng, Mafube, Mohokare, Mantsopa, Setsoto and Thabo Mofutsayane.
• KOFFIEFONTEIN – 16 JUN 2022 (06H00) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Free State is expected to commemorate the Soweto Uprising Day in Letsemeng today, 16 June 2022, at the Ditlhake Stadium in Koffiefontein. Known as the Soweto uprising, high school student-led protests in South Africa commenced on 16 June 1976 in response to the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools. This coincides with the Youth Day Commemoration observed in South Africa annually on 16 June.

• SOWETO – 16 JUN 2022 (06H05) Members of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) Young Workers Forum in the Gauteng Central Region are expected to conduct a Youth Day Commemorative march at the Orlando West High School in Soweto today 16 June 2022. Participants are expected to gather at the Orlando West High School from 10H00 to march to the Hector Pietersen Memorial.
• JOHANNESBURG – 16 JUN 2022 (06H25) Protest expected by the members of the Forgotten Nation today, 16 June 2022, at the Hector Peterson Memorial from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand employment and business opportunities. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• MEADOWLANDS WEST – 16 JUN 2022 (07H50) Protest expected by members of the Sizo sebenza nge nkani movement today, 16 June 2022, from 09H00. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Meadowlands Zone 9 Terminals. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand employment opportunities and deliver their curriculum vitae (CV) at Reya Vaya Bus services, Cashbuild store and Fairprice store. Members of the public are advised to avoid the areas. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• SOWETO – 16 JUN 2022 (08H40) The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is expected to hold its Youth Day Commemoration today, 16 June 2022, at the Mofolo Park from 09H00. The IFP Founder and President Emeritus, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, and IFP President, Velenkosini Hlabisa, are expected to deliver a keynote address during the commemoration.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 16 JUN 2022
• PIETERMARITZBURG – 15 JUN 2022 (19H00) The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) has implemented a partial road closure on the N3 between Lynnfield Park and Camperdown in Pietermaritzburg from 19H00 on Wednesday, 15 June 2022, until 05H00 on Thursday, 16 June 2022. SANRAL has released a statement confirming that the N3 has been reduced to one lane to allow milling and replacement of the road surface on the section. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid a backlog of traffic in the area.
• VAN REENEN – 16 JUN 2022 (05H30) Protest reported on the N3 Van Reenen. Truck operators affiliated with the All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDF ASA) are protesting against the employment of foreign truck operators. The demonstrators have blockaded the road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• DURBAN – 16 JUN 2022 (06H30) Protest expected at the Bat Centre in Esplanade, today 16 June 2022, from 14H00. Demonstrators will be protesting for the removal of the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during the protest. Police will be deployed to the scene.
• NTUZUMA – 16 JUN 2022 (07H55) Protest reported on Dumisani Makhaye Drive in the vicinity of Midway Crossing. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

• HA-MASIA – 15 JUN 2022 (19H20) Community members at Ha-Masia village raised concerns regarding service delivery at the Mayoral Imbizo at Tshiphuseni Sports Ground today, 15 June 2022. The Vhembe District Municipality stated that it has noted that access to water continues to be a challenge for the community of Ha-Masia village. This is due to the frequent damage to boreholes and the delays in fixing them. The process of repairing the boreholes has started and is expected to be fixed within the next two months. The community members have also raised concerns regarding poor sanitation, high unemployment, high crime rates, and the need for a clinic.
• LOUIS TRICHARDT – 15 JUN 2022 (21H20) Vehicle fire reported on the N1 south of Louis Trichardt in Limpopo. Reports indicate that a passenger bus is currently on fire in the roadway. • LYDENBURG – 15 JUN 2022 (21H30) Opposition political parties in the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) in Mashishing, Mpumalanga, have called for the suspension and removal of Municipal Manager Sphiwe Matsi. This follows after the Lydenburg Regional Court recently found TCLM guilty of seven charges in terms of the National Environmental Managing Act. Matsi pleaded guilty to the charges on behalf of TCLM as its Accounting Officer and Municipal Manager. TCLM subsequently received a combined fine of R5 million.
• KWAGGAFONTEIN – 15 JUN 2022 (23H00) Armed robbery reported at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Kwaggafontein. Reports indicate that unidentified suspects have disarmed all SAPS members of their firearms. Firearms, including R5s, shotguns and handguns, have been taken. No injuries have been reported. • BLOEMHOF – 15 JUN 2022 (20H50) The N12 in Bloemhof remains closed to traffic due to the ongoing protest by the All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDF ASA). Transport Minister Fikile Mbalule stated that the department is aware of the situation and that it is being addressed. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are monitoring the situation.
• RUSTENBURG – 15 JUN 2022 (21H55) Protest reported on the R510 approaching Molapo Drive between Rustenburg Prison and the Airfield in the vicinity of Boitekong, Rustenburg. This is part of the programme for the 2022 Provincial Youth Day commemorations. Premier Zamani Saul will deliver a keynote address under the theme of promoting sustainable livelihood and resilience of young people for a better tomorrow. As part of the youth month programme, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will unveil the updated memorial site of Roseline Cloete and Michael Julius in Kakamas, who were killed by the then Apartheid Police on the 13 February 1988.
