SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 21 JUN 2022
• FLAGSTAFF – 21 JUN 2022 (06H25) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the eulogy at the funeral service of the late King of amaMpondo, Zanozuko Tyelovuyo Sigcau, in Flagstaff today, 21 June 2022. The service will commence from 10H00. The President has accorded the King of amaMpondo a special official funeral Category 1. Sigcau was inaugurated as a King of the amaMpondo nation in 2018.
• GQEBERHA/PORT ELIZABETH – 21 JUN 2022 (12H45) Protest reported on Mission Road in Greenbushes. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• FORT BEAUFORT – 21 JUN 2022 (14H45) Paramedics and other emergency medical services staff in the Amathole District, Raymond Mhlaba Local, and Buffalo City municipalities have embarked on a provincial strike for two months. The medical staff are demanding better work conditions and adequate equipment. The Department of Health has condemned the actions of workers. However, the Department continues to pay salaries to those who are on strike. The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in Fort Beaufort is calling for Eastern Cape Health MEC Nomakhosazana Meth and Premier Oscar Mabuyane to intervene and end an ongoing strike by ambulance workers. In May, the Department obtained a court order to end the unprotected strike. Most workers refused and continued to protest. The Provincial Health Department then took the National Education Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) to the Labour Court in Gqeberha on Friday, 17 June 2022. The court judgment was reserved, and the strike is allowed to continue.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 21 JUN 2022
• PARYS – 21 JUN 2022 (07H05) Premier Sisi Ntombela is expected to officiate the handover of the newly built Parys clinic today, 21 June 2022, from 08H00 at the Open grounds next to Phehellang Secondary School. Ntombela will also hand over four emergency services vehicles to Ngwathe Local Municipality under the stewardship of Executive Mayor Victoria De Beer.
• QWAQWA – 21 JUN 2022 (17H15) The Free State High Court has ordered the QwaQwa-based Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality to reconnect residents whose electricity was disconnected. This follows after the Municipality disconnected the electricity supply of two members of the Harrismith Intabazwe Tshiame Residents Association without any notice. In a previous judgement, the Court ordered the Municipality to restore all affected residents’ power and to desist from disconnecting electricity without following due process. The Municipality is amongst 15 municipalities which are being investigated by the Hawks for alleged fraud and corruption.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 21 JUN 2022
• JOHANNESBURG – 21 JUN 2022 (06H15) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the South African National Civic Organization (SANCO) today, 21 June 2022, at the Basic Education Department and the Office of the Premier. SANCO members are expected to protest over allegations that scholar transport drivers from other provinces have been granted tenders to operate in Gauteng, leaving operators in the province unemployed. The demonstrators are expected to deliver a memorandum at Premier David Makhura’s office and proceed to the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Panyaza Lesufi’s office. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 21 JUN 2022 (12H00) Protest reported outside the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe’s Head office. ActionSA members are protesting to demand justice for Lily Mine. The families of three employees of Lily mine seek closure as the bodies have not yet been retrieved. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demands to Minister Gwede Mantashe. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the offices. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
• JOHANNESBURG – 21 JUN 2022 (16H30) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed at the Johannesburg Mayor’s office. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation. (14H30) The Soweto residents have given the City of Johannesburg two months to address the service delivery challenges. (14H10) Mayor Mpho Phalatse is receiving the memorandum of demands from the Soweto Community Forum. Police continue to monitor the protest. (13H30) Soweto Community Forum members arrived at the Metropolitan Centre to hand over a memorandum. Road closure reported on Civic Boulevard between De Korte, Jorrison and Hoofd Street in Braamfontein. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. (12H05) Demonstrators have arrived at Pieter Roos Park ahead of their march to Mayor’s office. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (11H00) Demonstrations reported in the vicinity of Midway Cash and Carry and Blue Moon Cash and Carry. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use Klipspruit Valley Road/M10 as an alternative route. (10H15) Community members have started marching on Chris Hani Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene. (09H20) Demonstrations reported outside Maponya Mall ahead of the motorcade to Parktown at the Peter Rose Park. (07H30) Residents of Protea South are marching Chris Hani Road to Maponya Mall ahead of their march to the Mayor’s office. The demonstrators have obstructed the road with stones and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene. (06H00) Protest expected at the City of Johannesburg Mayor’s Office in Braamfontein, Johannesburg today, 21 June 2022. Demonstrators under the aegis of Soweto Parliament and the Pimville/ Klipspruit Community Forum are expected to conduct a motorcade and march protest to demand improved service delivery and the removal of informal settlements. The motorcade is expected to be held from the Maponye Mall parking area at the main entrance to the Peter Ross Park on Empire Road. Thereafter, demonstrators are set to march from Peter Ross Park to the Mayor’s Office in Braamfontein. Participants are expected to deliver petitions to City of Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Phalatse during the march’s conclusion. Motorists and members of the public are advised of potential ground travel disruptions on affected routes during the demonstration. Authorities are expected to be deployed to monitor the protest.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 21 JUN 2022
• DURBAN – 21 JUN 2022 (06H05) The African National Congress (ANC) in the province is expected to hold a media brief today, 21 June 2022, from 11H00 at the ANC Provincial offices. The media brief is expected to be held to outline the outcomes of the recent Provincial Executive Committee and provide an update on preparations for the upcoming Provincial elective conference, scheduled to take place in July 2022.
• ASHBURTON – 21 JUN 2022 (06H20) Road closure expected on the N3 bi-directional between Umlaas Road and Lynnfield Park in Ashburton today, 21 June 2022, between 09H00 and 15H00. The road closure is necessary to conduct maintenance and upgrading works on the roadway. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes for the duration of the road closure.
• ULUNDI – 21 JUN 2022 (15H30) KwaZulu-Natal Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Transport, Peggy Nkonyeni, has been involved in a motor vehicle accident on the R66 between Ulundi and Durban. Premier Sihle Zikalala stated that the accident happened after a tyre burst. Nkonyeni has been transported to a hospital. The extent of her injuries is not known. This follows after the MEC held a meeting with King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala in Ulundi on key issues in the province today, 21 June 2022.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 21 JUN 2022
• MARKEN – 21 JUN 2022 (15H15) The community protest in Bakenburg outside Mokopane has been suspended following a meeting between the community and representatives from the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure and Roads Agency. This follows after a community protest on Monday, 20 June 2022, that blocked the D192 road and the R518 intersection near Marken with burning tyres and stones. The demonstrators demanded an update on the rehabilitation project for the D192 road. Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Spokesperson Joel Seabi stated that the road project will still continue as planned. A contractor has been appointed, and R96 million has been allocated to complete the project.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 21 JUN 2022
• BARBERTON – 21 JUN 2022 (15H00) Peaceful protest reported on President Street behind the Barberton Magistrate Court. Members of the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) have barricaded the road with still-standing vehicles. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. • SEGWAELANE – 21 JUN 2022 (07H40) UPDATE Demonstrations reported in the vicinity of Segwaelane Taxi Rank. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. (06H35) Protest reported on the R556 between Bethanie and Segwaelane. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. • RUSTENBURG – 21 JUN 2022 (12H25) UPDATE Demonstrators have gathered at Freedom Park ahead of their march to Impala Platinum Mine. (08H20) Protest expected by members affiliated with The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) today, 21 June 2022, at Impala Platinum mine. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Freedom Park and march to the Impala Platinum mine. NUMSA members employed by Reagetswe Mining Group, Triple M Mining and Newrak mining, who are contracted to provide services to Implats, are expected to protest to demand salary increases. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

• KATHU – 21 JUN 2022 (06H10) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education, Zolile Monakali, is expected to deliver the Department of Education 2022/23 Budget Vote to the Provincial Legislature today, 21 June 2022, at the Gamagara Town Hall from 10H00.
• KIMBERLEY – 21 JUN 2022 (17H45) Police have launched an investigation into the kidnapping and murder of a male victim. The victim’s body has been discovered in an open area near Samaria Road in Kimberley today, 21 June 2022. The kidnapping allegedly occurred on Saturday, 18 June 2022, at 16H00. Police are searching for four unknown male suspects. The Police found the victim’s vehicle abandoned in the vicinity of the crime scene on Monday, 20 June 2022.
• DANIELSKUIL – 21 JUN 2022 (17H50) Arson reported at the informal settlement in Danielskuil today, 21 June 2022. Community members have set alight several houses allegedly belonging to residents that sell illegal narcotics. Emergency services are on the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 21 JUN 2022
• CAPE TOWN – 21 JUN 2022 (06H30) Protest reported on Jan Smuts Drive/M17 in Goodwood. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• CAPE TOWN – 21 JUN 2022 (13H50) Cape Town Metropolitan Police, in a joint operation with the Traffic Department and Law Enforcement, is conducting court evictions along Military Road heading towards the railway station in the Steenberg area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
• CAPE TOWN – 21 JUN 2022 (16H00) Armed robbery reported at a cell phone store near Shoprite Kuils River. Two victims have been robbed and fatally shot. Police helicopters and vehicles have been deployed. The Police caught the suspects in the vicinity of the bridge on Belhar Drive between Highbury and Kalkfontein. Road closure reported on Belhar Drive. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
