SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 22 JUN 2022
• EAST LONDON – 21 JUN 2022 (19H10) The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) announced that final preparations are underway to resume limited services in the Eastern Cape on the East London and Gqeberha corridors. This follows after the line was closed on 07 January 2022 due to vandalism rendering the network unable to operate. The region originally operated both diesel and electric trains. However, the vandalism left the region unable to operate due to cable theft. As an interim measure, PRASA has made diesel locomotives available to return the services while repair work continues on the lines. The limited services are scheduled to resume on Thursday, 23 June 2022, for both corridors.
• BETHELSDORP – 22 JUN 2022 (06H55) Protest reported on Stanford Road in Kleinskool. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• BHISO – 22 JUN 2022 (09H20) Protest expected by members affiliated with the Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) and Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) Young Workers Forum (YWF) on Friday, 24 June 2022, at the office of the Premier from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand job opportunities. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 22 JUN 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 21 JUN 2022 (22H30) Auditor-General (AG) Tsakani Maluleke has confirmed that three Free State Municipalities have failed to submit their financial statements ahead of an audit by AG Maluleke for the current financial year. The Trompsburg-based Kopanong, Qwaqwa-based Maluti-A-Phofung, and the Theunissen-based Masilonyana Municipalities have reportedly failed to provide AG Maluleke with the financial statements as per the requirement. The municipalities are amongst several others in the province that have been accused of failing to provide essential services to residents. Maluleke has stated that irregular spending has since increased by an estimated R2 billion. The 2019/2020 financial statements of the Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality also remain outstanding. Maluleke has noted that accountability roleplayers such as Municipal Mayors, Speakers, and Provincial Premiers have been requested to intervene in the non-submission of the financial statements.

• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 21 JUN 2022 (19H00) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to lead South Africa’s participation in the virtual 14th Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) Leaders’ Summit hosted by the People’s Republic of China from Thursday, 23 June 2022, until Friday, 24 June 2022. President Xi Jinping of China will chair the Summit, as Chair of BRICS for 2022, under the theme, foster high-quality BRICS Partnership; Usher in a New Era for Global Development. This association is committed to restructuring the global political, economic, and financial architecture to be more inclusive, fair, representative, and democratic with meaningful and greater participation from developing countries.
• MABOPANE – 21 JUN 2022 (22H00) Protest reported on the M20 and other routes leading into the Mabopane residential suburb north of Pretoria. Residents have barricaded roads with burning tyres and debris in protest against ongoing service delivery-related issues. This follows after Eskom recently announced the suspension of services to Garankuwa, Mabopane and Motlhotlung due to the unrest in the area to ensure the safety of employees. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Authorities are on the scene.
• JOHANNESBURG – 21 JUN 2022 (21H55) Protest reported on Joe Nhlanhla Street between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue in Alexandra, Johannesburg. Residents are protesting against persistent electricity outages being experienced in the area. Demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Authorities are on the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 22 JUN 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Headquarters today, 22 June 2022, from 10H00 until 14H00 by the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU). Demonstrators will hand over a memorandum of demands to the National Police Commissioner over the poor conditions trainees are being subjected to. The demands include answers for the discrepancies, which led to over 545 trainees not having received their stipends over the past two months. This follows after various other protests in the Department of Correctional Services in the Groenpunt, Sasolburg and Malmesbury centres. POPCRU members have been protesting against illegal shift patterns, amongs other reasons. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police will be deployed to the scene.
• MABOPANE – 22 JUN 2022 (06H20) Protest reported in Boekenhout, Block A, Block B and Block B1 in Mabopane. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery to power outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 22 JUN 2022 (08H30) UPDATE Road closure reported on the N4 between Transoranje Road and Acridian Street due to ongoing protest. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (07H00) Protest reported on the N4/ Magalies Highway in the vicinity of Lotus Gardens. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to electricity. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• SANDTON – 22 JUN 2022 (09H45) Eskom has announced that stage two will be implemented from today, 22 June 2022, from 10H00 until 00H00 and from Thursday, 23 June 2022, until Sunday, 26 June 2022, stage two will be implemented from 05H00 until 00H00. Eskom stated the load shedding is due to a generation unit each at the Kendal and Matimba and two units at the Matla Power Station that broke down. The generation capacity has been reduced by 2,400 megawatts (MW), adding to the ongoing capacity constraints.

• TONGAAT – 22 JUN 2022 (06H00) Protest reported on the R102 between Maidstone Service Station and Fairbreeze. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. • MANKWENG – 22 JUN 2022 (07H50) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) today, 22 June 2022, at the Mankweng Police Station from 08H00. The EFF members are expected to protest to demand justice for Maria Lestoalo, who was killed by a suspect who has been released on bail. • EMBALENHLE – 22 JUN 2022 (07H30) Protest expected at Embalenhle Stadium today, 22 June 2022, from 00H00. Demonstrators will be protesting due to the lack of service delivery, poor road conditions, electricity supply challenges, high unemployment rate and corruption at the Govan Mbeki Municipality. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police will be dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 22 JUN 2022
• RUSTENBURG – 21 JUN 2022 (19H45) The twenty-four suspects arrested by the North West Police for possessing stolen copper cables worth R750,000 near the Samancor shaft on Monday, 20 June 2022, are expected to appear at the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 22 June 2022. The suspects are facing a charge of tampering with essential infrastructure. The suspects were arrested at a hideout next to the ventilation shaft after a shootout with security guards.
• BRITS – 22 JUN 2022 (09H00) UPDATE The demonstrators have arrived at the Magistrate court to protest against the bail application of the suspects. The demonstrators have barricaded the entrance of the magistrate court. (07H20) Protest reported on Magaliesberg Road. Community members are protesting ahead of their march to the Brits Magistrate Court. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand the court to deny bail for suspects who have been arrested for murder. SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 22 JUN 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 21 JUN 2022 (20H30) Sol Plaatje Municipality disconnected the power supply of formal businesses, informal businesses and households that have illegal electricity connections. Municipal Spokesperson Thoko Riet stated that culpable parties would have to pay R8,692 to reconnect. This includes a tampering administration fee, a disconnection fee and an inquiry into tampering. A list has been compiled of all consumers suspected of tampering with the electrical sources, and officials are in the process of verifying all illegal connections. Riet added that the disconnection of outstanding accounts for more than 90 days had not commenced yet. However, the municipality is in the process of issuing notices of disconnection to households and businesses in arrears.

• CAPE TOWN – 21 JUN 2022 (20H00) Shooting reported on Gilo Street in Delft. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
• CAPE TOWN – 21 JUN 2022 (23H05) Shooting reported on St Patrick Avenue in Seawinds, Cape Town. Reports indicate that unidentified armed suspects have opened fire in the area. Emergency services and Police have been dispatched to the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
• CAPE TOWN – 22 JUN 2022 (06H35) The official handover ceremony of the 5th final instalment of the State Capture Report is scheduled to occur at the Parliament in Cape Town today, 22 June 2022. The report was expected to be handed to President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday, 20 June 2022, at the Union Buildings. However, the State Capture Commission stated that there were challenges in processing parts 5 and 6 of its report.
