SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 27 JUN 2022

  • EAST LONDON – 26 JUN 2022 (23H10) The South African Police Services (SAPS) has announced the launch of a search operation in Scenery Park. This follows after 20 people died at the Enyobeni tavern in Scenery Park due to suspected poisoning. Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane confirmed that 17 people died on the scene, and three others died after being admitted to the hospital. Police Minister Bheki Cele has visited the site along with additional experts. Parents have been requested to report to the Woodbrook mortuary to assist in identifying members.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 27 JUN 2022

  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 27 JUN 2022 (05H55) Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula is expected to conduct a working visit to Bloemfontein today, 27 June 2022, at 12H00. Mbalula stated that he will assess the Transport Presidential Imbizo Interventions on infrastructure developments during his visit. Mbalula further noted that he will address the public at the Mangaung City Hall after reviewing developments in the city.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 27 JUN 2022

  • JOHANNESBURG – 26 JUN 2022 (23H35) Power outage reported at the Cleveland Substation. The affected areas include Mint street, Part street, Marshall street, Dorin street, Robinson street, Jumper street, Kate street and Tucker street. The power outage has been caused due to damaged cables. The power cables are expected to be repaired by 14H00 on 27 June 2022. Further updates will be provided as received.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 27 JUN 2022 (01H40) Experts at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NCID) have requested that the Government re-impose the COVID-19 restrictions. This follows after Health Minister Joe Phaahla confirmed the first case of Monkeypox in South Africa on Thursday, 23 June 2022. The request has been made to control the spread of the Monkeypox virus. Furthermore, the re-imposed COVID-19 restrictions are expected to increase the tracking of the virus in civilians.
  • BENONI – 27 JUN 2022 (02H00) UPDATE The African National Congress (ANC) has nominated Tasmeen Motara as its Deputy Provincial Secretary. (01H30) The African National Congress (ANC) has announced the results of the 14th provincial elective conference held on 26 June 2022. Lesufi had been elected as the Chairperson with 575 votes, against Lebogang Maile, who had received 543 votes. Morakane Mosupye has been elected as the Treasurer after former Health Member of Executive Council (MEC) Bandile Masuku declined his nomination to the position. Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko has been elected as the Deputy Chairperson with 593 votes over Mzi Khumalo, who received 522 votes. Furthermore, Tk Nciza has been nominated as the Provincial Secretary with 524 votes against Thulani Kunene’s 525 votes and Jacob Khawe’s 56 votes.
  • MADIBENG – 27 JUN 2022 (06H15) Protest reported on the R566 from Brits to Roslyn next to the Total Garage. Demonstrators are blocking the road with tyres and debris. Emergency services have been dispatched to the area. The reason for the protest remains unknown. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes for the duration of the protest.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 27 JUN 2022

  • DURBAN – 26 JUN 2022 (22H20) The Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has commenced the construction of an alternative bypass road to the Durban Container Terminals and the Island View Complex. The construction of the road has followed to ease congestion on the Bayhead road. Additionally, TNPA has established construction works after the Bayhead road had been damaged by flooding in the area. TNPA has removed the existing rail tracks and cleared the area of debris and is busy with earthworks and the placement of pioneer layers. The bypass road is expected to be concluded by November 2022.
  • HIBBERDENE – 27 JUN 2022 (08H30) Protest reported on the N2 Freeway Umzumbe bridge and R102 Umzumbe road. Reports indicate that residents in Hibberdene, Pumula and Umzumbe are protesting against water shortages in the area. The South African Police Service (SAPS) Port Shepstone have been dispatched and is currently monitoring the situation. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes for the duration of the protest.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 27 JUN 2022

  • MOLETJIE – 27 JUN 2022 (09H20) Moletjie Traditional Authority announced the implementation of a curfew from 26 June until 23 July 2022. The curfew follows after an increase in attacks in the community because of the ongoing initiation season. The curfew restricts churches, taverns and other organisations from operating beyond 22H00.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 27 JUN 2022

  • DIPALASENG – 27 JUN 2022 (08H10) Road closure reported on the N3, Section 3 from Sanctuary road to Link Road. The South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) would like to inform motorists about the relevant road closure with regard to maintenance work on the following project. SANRAL stated that the contractor is scheduled to undertake works in the median drain on the southbound carriageway of the N3 at night on 28 June 2022.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 27 JUN 2022

  • RUSTENBURG – 27 JUN 2022 (00H00) The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has requested that the South African Police Service launch search operations in the vicinity of Rustenburg. This follows after the death of NUMSA shop steward Mahlomola Hlothoane at his home on Friday, 24 June 2022. Hlothoane assisted the union by coordinating the recruitment and mobilisation of workers at the Implats mine. This follows after another NUMSA official, Malibongwe Mdazo, had been killed outside the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) offices in August 2021.
  • VENTERSKROON – 27 JUN 2022 (00H20) The South African Police Service (SAPS) is expected to host a two-day Rural Safety Summit at the Woodlands Country Lodge from today, 27 June 2022, until 28 June 2022. Furthermore, the Summit will commence at 07H30. The Summit will focus on ensuring the safety of the farming community, including farmers, farm workers and farm dwellers. Additionally, the Summit will focus on the prevention of stock theft. The Summit is expected to consist of members from the National African Farmers Union of South Africa (NAFU), Agriculture South Africa (AGRISA), African Farmers Association of South Africa (AFASA), Transvaal Agricultural Union South Africa (TLU/TAU SA), the National Stock theft forum and activists against Farm Murders. Police Minister Bheki Cele will deliver a keynote address.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 27 JUN 2022

  • KURUMAN – 27 JUN 2022 (04H50) The Northern Cape Provincial Legislature is expected to host the Provincial Youth Parliament today, 27 June 2022, in Kuruman. The Legislature is set to host the parliament to observe youth month. The Youth Parliament of 2022 is expected to focus on gender-based violence and femicide, suicide and substance abuse issues. The Legislature will focus on addressing issues youth members in rural areas are facing. During the event, the Legislature will allow the participating Youth Parliament representatives to convey their perspectives on the relevant issues.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 27 JUN 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 26 JUN 2022 (23H20) Eskom has announced that stage four loadshedding will be extended until Wednesday, 29 June 2022. This follows as Eskom failed to bring the Koeberg Unit 2 online ahead of their deadline. This is in addition to the ongoing strike action of Eskom employees from 23 June 2022. Eskom noted that the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy is required to provide from 4,000 to 6,000 megawatts (MW) of additional generating capacity to resolve the issues and end loadshedding.
  • CAPE TOWN – 27 JUN 2022 (02H20) Gathering expected by members of the Forgotten Nation at the Mandela High School on 29 June 2022. The meeting is expected to commence at 11H00. During the meeting, the members are expected to submit their database of beneficiaries. The database is set to include the members’ names, Identification (ID) numbers, contact numbers and other information.

  • BLOEMFONTEIN: The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to celebrate its 9th Anniversary on Saturday, 30 July 2022, at the Dr Molemela Stadium from 11H00. The EFF Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to address the EFF members during the celebration.
