• GQEBERHA/ PORT ELIZABETH – 07 JUL 2022 (17H00) UPDATE The demonstrators have dispersed at UMhlobo Wenene FM. The SABC stated that it will engage all interested groups regarding the dismissal of Reverend Mzukisi Faleni. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (12H45) Demonstrations reported outside the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) offices. The EFF members demand Reverend Mzukisi Faleni to be reinstated by Umhlobo Wenene FM. (06H00) Protest expected at UMhlobo Wenene FM today, 07 July 2022, by members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). The demonstrators are expected to gather at Greenacres parking from 08H00 and march to UMhlobo Wenene FM. The demonstrators are demanding the reinstatement of Reverend Mzukisi Faleni. The station suspended Faleni on allegations of conflict of interest following his inclusion as a contributor to a programme at Zibonele FM. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the march. • ODENDAALSRUS – 07 JUL 2022 (12H00) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Police, Road and Transport, William Bulwane, is expected to conduct an oversight visit at the Odendaalsrus Police Station on Friday, 08 July 2022, from 11H00.
• VILJOENSKROON – 07 JUL 2022 (17H50) The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has reported three cases of foot and mouth disease in the Free State. The Department has urged the farming community to refrain from moving and buying animals at auctions. It is suspected that animals were moved between North West and the Free State. The cases were reported on farms in Viljoenskroon and in Marquard.

• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 07 JUL 2022 (08H15) Protest expected today, 07 July 2022, at the Tshwane House. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Prince’s Park from 09H00 and march to Tshwane House. The demonstrators are expected to protest due to wage disputes and unfair labour practices by private security companies contracted to the City of Tshwane. The following intersections will be affected by the protest, Prince’s Park Avenue, Kgosi Mampuru Street, Sophie De Bruyn Street, Bosman Street, Paul Kruger Street, Thabo Sehume Street, and Lillian Ngoyi Street. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 12H30. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Tshwane Metro Police officers will be deployed to monitor the protest.

• BOKSBURG – 07 JUL 2022 (14H00) The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) announced plans for a national shutdown in August 2022 to protest against the rising cost of living and loadshedding. The federation briefed the media in Boksburg following its National Executive Committee meeting today, 07 July 2022. The federation’s General-Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi stated that the executive has decided to call for a national shutdown in response to worsening living standards. SAFTU has set a targeted date for a one-day general strike on 24 August 2022.

• DURBAN – 07 JUL 2022 (14H30) UPDATE The demonstrators have delivered a memorandum of demands to the station commander of Durban Central Police Station. The demonstrators have dispersed. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (10H40) Demonstrations reported outside the Durban Central Police Station. African National Congress (ANC) and other various political parties are protesting to demand charges against former President Jacob Zuma and the Police Station to follow up on the case opened against President Cyril Ramaphosa. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the Police Station. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demands. (06H05) Protest expected at the Durban Central Police Station today, 07 July 2022, from 08H00. • PHALABORWA – 07 JUL 2022 (16H00) Mayor of the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Merriam Malatji has called on residents to stop damaging electrical infrastructure as it hampers basic services in the Phalaborwa Central Business District. This follows after cable theft was reported on Potgieter Street on Wednesday night, 06 July 2022. Municipal Spokesperson Jonas Mahesu stated that this is affecting the power supply to the Department of Home Affairs offices, Makhoma, taxi rank and other surrounding areas. The Municipality is placing security personnel at the places where cable theft occurs, and they are working to address the problem.

• MBOMBELA/ NELSPRUIT – 07 JUL 2022 (12H30) Premier Refilwe Mtshweni Tsipane is expected to lead a delegation of the Members of the Executive Council (MECs) and economic experts in discussion with a delegation of the United States of America’s (USA) investors on Friday, 08 July 2022, from 16H00. The discussion is expected to be held to promote investment opportunities in the province. Premier Tsipane is expected to outline the opportunities for trade by foreign investors in the following sectors, agro-processing, renewable energy, mining, forestry, infrastructure and tourism. This follows after the teams were robbed at gunpoint on Saturday, 02 July 2022. Residents of Marcus Garvey informal settlement have raised concerns regarding blocked sewers that are affecting about 100 households. Police Spokesperson Captain Frederick Van Wyk stated that a robbery case is under investigation. No arrest has been made.
