SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 11 JUL 2022
• MTHATHA – 11 JUL 2022 (06H40) Two suspects are expected to appear at the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court today, 11 July 2022, on charges of fraud. The two suspects were arrested in Germiston, Gauteng, after being accused of siphoning R1 million for sub-contractors of a company based in the Eastern Cape.

• PARYS – 11 JUL 2022 (08H45) The civil rights organisation AfriForum has announced that it will take Ngwathe Municipality to the High Court in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, 13 July 2022, over the ongoing water and power problems in Parys. AfriForum is expected to appeal for a court order to compel the municipality to provide services as required by law. This follows after Eskom shut down the Ngwathe Local Municipality’s power due to overload and damaged equipment.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 11 JUL 2022
• JOHANNESBURG – 10 JUL 2022 (22H30) Eskom has announced that Stage 4 Loadshedding is scheduled to be in effect between 16H00 and 00H00 on Sunday 10 July 2022. This reportedly follows due to the loss of five generation units during the preceding 36 hours and delays in the return to service of five other units. With effect from Monday, 11 July 2022, Eskom is set to implement Stage 2 Loadshedding until 05H00. Thereafter, Stage 4 Loadshedding is expected to persist from 05H00 until 00H00. Loadhsedding will be reduced to Stage 2 from 00H00 until 05H00 on Tuesday, 12 July 2022. Relevant updates will be issued to the public as the situation progresses.
• JOHANNESBURG – 11 JUL 2022 (02H00) Protest expected at the Chief Albert Luthuli House in Johannesburg Central by members of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) on Friday, 15 July 2022. MKMVA members are expected to gather at Gandhi Square from 09H00 to march toward the African National Congress (ANC) Headquarters, Luthuli House. The march aims to raise several demands, including the immediate suspension of President Cyril Ramaphosa, reduction of petrol prices, an immediate end to loadshedding and the appointment of a Commission of Inquiry into the alleged Glencore SA corruption, in addition to the implementation of the Living Wage and 12% salary increases for all public servants. Authorities are expected to be deployed to monitor the demonstration. Motorists are advised of expected ground travel disruptions in the area during the march.
• JOHANNESBURG – 11 JUL 2022 (06H00) Police Minister General Bheki Cele is expected to receive a comprehensive report on the mass shooting incidents that occurred in the Gauteng province during the preceding weekend today, 11 July 2022. The report is expected to contain further investigation results regarding the death of 15 people at a local liquor outlet in the Nomzamo Informal Settlement in Orlando East, Soweto. The Minister is also set to attend a high-level closed-door meeting at the Orlando Police Station along with National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola before conducting a site visit to the crime scene.
• BOKSBURG – 11 JUL 2022 (07H45) Protest reported on Wit Deep Road. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• SANDTON – 11 JUL 2022 (09H00) Eskom Group Chief Operating Officer Jan Oberholzer is expected to hold a media brief today, 11 July 2022, from 10H00 until 11H00. Eskom’s management team is also expected to provide an update on the current system challenges.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 11 JUL 2022
• PINETOWN – 10 JUL 2022 (21H20) Protest reported on the M1/ Henry Pennington Road in the vicinity of the Westgate Industrial Park, Pinetown. Reports indicate that community members have barricaded the road in both directions. Demonstrators are also throwing stones at vehicles. The reason for the protest action remains undetermined at this time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. 3
• MPOPHOMENI – 11 JUL 2022 (07H10) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on the R617. The road has been blocked for traffic flow. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched. (04H00) Protest expected on the R617 in the vicinity of Mpophomeni today, 11 July 2022. Community members are expected to continue a demonstration against ongoing electricity supply outages being experienced in the area. This follows protest action in the area during the preceding weekend, during which protestors allegedly assaulted municipal contractors while attempting to restore power supply to neighbouring Mpophomeni residents. The demonstrators reportedly also damaged municipal vehicles and held officials as hostages during the protest. Public Order Policing (POP) officers have been alerted and are expected to heighten security surveillance of the area during the demonstration. Motorists are advised to exercise vigilance and avoid areas of demonstrations.
• ESCOURT – 11 JUL 2022 (07H15) Protest reported on the R103 from Estcourt to Weenan. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• PINETOWN – 11 JUL 2022 (07H35) Protest reported on the M1/Mr85 Route in the vicinity of Marianhill Informal settlement. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 11 JUL 2022
• POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 10 JUL 2022 (21H20) The Limpopo Health Department has announced that the first monkeypox case has been confirmed in the province. The Department has stated that a tourist from Switzerland, who is currently on holiday in the province, has tested positive for the disease. Authorities have subsequently activated a process of contact tracing, with three contact cases identified. Further efforts to contain the disease are underway.
• MANKWENG – 11 JUL 2022 (08H00) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) members at the University of Limpopo (UL) today, 11 July 2022. EFF members are expected to protest to demand the immediate release of off-campus allowance in student accounts. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the situation.

• BUSHBUCKRIDGE – 11 JUL 2022 (08H10) The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Thembi Siwe and the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Mandla Ndlovu, are expected to lead the Mandela Month Winter Warmer drive in Bushbuckridge, Enhlanzeni District Municipality today, 11 July 2022 from 10H00. The drive is part of Mandela Month and acknowledgement of the role that the former president, Nelson Mandela, played in paving the country’s path to democracy.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 11 JUL 2022
• POTCHEFSTROOM – 10 JUL 2022 (22H00) Deputy President David Mabuza, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Presidential Task Team on Military Veterans, is scheduled to embark on an official follow-up visit to the Potchefstroom Army Support Base on Tuesday, 12 July 2022. Mabuza is set to engage with the Provincial Government and Military Veterans Associations. During the visit, Mabuza is also expected to hold an engagement with military veterans at the Eerste Vesting Church in Potchefstroom. The Office of the Presidency Media Liaison Officer Sam Bopape has stated that the follow-up meeting is in line with Mabuza’s directive for the Presidential Task Team to provide applicable solutions to address challenges being experienced by military veterans.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 11 JUL 2022
• BARKLY WEST – 10 JUL 2022 (20H40) Northern Cape Police have announced that six suspects are expected to appear before the Barkley West Magistrates Court on Monday, 11 July 2022, on allegations of conspiracy to commit a robbery and possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition. This follows after Northern Cape Organised Crime Detectives, assisted by the Kimberley Flying Squad, Kimberley K9 Unit, and Warrenton Visible Police members, received intelligence regarding a possible armed robbery near Warrenton. Police Spokesperson Olebogeng Tawana has stated that the team of law enforcement officers intercepted the suspects’ vehicle and searched it. Subsequently, authorities located four unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspects have since been detained, with further investigations underway.
• KATHU – 11 JUL 2022 (07H00) Protest reported on the R380 and Ian Flemming Street towards the Kumba Iron Ore Mine and Sishen Mine. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstrators are protesting due to unemployment. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. • CAPE TOWN – 10 JUL 2022 (19H50) Shooting reported on Naomi Street in the Avonwood area of Cape Town. Local reports of gunfire have emerged in the area. The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this time. Authorities have been deployed to the scene. Motorists are advised to exercise vigilance when travelling in the area.
