• LUSIKISIKI – 13 JUL 2022 (08H50) The Development Department, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund, will commemorate World Population Day today, 13 July 2022, at Lusikisiki Healthcare resource from 08H30 until 15H30. The commemoration is hosted under this year’s theme, A world of 8 billion, Towards a resilient future for all, Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all.
• EAST LONDON – 13 JUL 2022 (11H05) Police have arrested the owner of Enyobeni Tavern and two employees. The arrests are in connection with the 21 young people who died at the tavern on 26 June 2022. This comes after the Eastern Cape Liquor Board laid charges for contravention of the Liquor Act. The police are investigating the alleged violation or contravention of the act for the supplying alcohol to minors under the age of 18 years. The owner is expected to appear at the East London magistrate’s court on Friday, 19 August 2022.
• IBHAYI – 13 JUL 2022 (15H00) UPDATE Stone-throwing reported on the R75 between Joe Slovo and KwaDwesi. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. (10H20) Protest reported in the vicinity of KwaDwesi Stadium. Residents of wards 30, 33, 36, and 41 are marching to KwaDwesi Police Station to hand over a petition demanding a new police station and more officers for the areas. The demonstrators are protesting due to high crime rates in the area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

• WELKOM – 13 JUL 2022 (06H55) UPDATE Demonstrations reported outside the CUT campus. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene. (06H10) Protest expected at the Central University of Technology (CUT) today, 13 July, from 06H15. Students are expected to protest to demand examinations to be written online and demand student accommodation allowances. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 13 JUL 2022
• SOWETO – 13 JUL 2022 (08H35) Protest reported on Main Road in Dobsonville. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to power outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• JOHANNESBURG – 13 JUL 2022 (11H40) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold the EFF Presser on Thursday, 14 July 2022, from 12H00 at the Winnie Madikizela Mandela House. The EFF Chief in Command (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to address the EFF Presser.
• SOWETO – 13 JUL 2022 (13H45) Unrest reported at the Nomzamo Informal Settlement due to an act of vigilantism. Community members have assaulted a person accused of being part of criminal activity in the area. The community have raised concern regarding the lack of Police visibility in the area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
• JOHANNESBURG – 13 JUL 2022 (15H20) The Palm Ridge Specialised Crimes Court has postponed the fraud, corruption and money laundering case against five accused, including former Transnet Group Chief Executive Siyabonga Gama, to 29 August 2022. The case relates to corruption involving some R93 million during the purchase of at least 1,064 locomotives. The accused also faces a charge of contravention of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). National Prosecuting Authority Investigating Directorate (NPA ID) Spokesperson, Sindisiwe Seboka, stated that more arrests are imminent.
• JOHANNESBURG – 13 JUL 2022 (16H15) National shutdown expected on Friday, 15 July 2022, by the Private Security Sector. A total of 23 recognised unions have reached a deadlock in the wage negotiations with employer federations on 08 July 2022. The unions demand a 16% average salary increase over a three-year contract with improved allowances and benefits. The unions have approached the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) following a deadlock with employer federations. Motorists are advised to exercise caution on national routes, regional routes and high-risk areas during the industrial strike. Police will be deployed to protest actions.
• RANDFONTEIN – 13 JUL 2022 (16H20) Protest expected on the R28/ Main Reef Road in Mohlakeng, Randfontein, on Thursday, 14 July 2022. Community members are expected to protest against loadshedding. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be dispatched to the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 13 JUL 2022
• LADYSMITH – 13 JUL 2022 (10H10) Road closure reported on Helpmekaar Road in the vicinity of St Chad Practising School due to an ongoing service delivery protest. The road has been barricaded with stones and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are monitoring the situation.
• DURBAN – 13 JUL 2022 (14H30) Protest expected at King Dinizulu Park on Monday, 18 July 2022, from 08H00 by the Family Unity movement. The demonstrators will be protesting for the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa as the President of the country and the President of the African National Congress (ANC) party, among other reasons. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be monitoring the situation.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 13 JUL 2022
• BELA BELA – 13 JUL 2022 (12H10) The African National Congress (ANC) Regional Task Team (RTT) in the Waterberg Region is expected to convene the Regional Conference from Friday, 22 July 2022, until Sunday, 24 July 2022, at the Aventura Resort in Bela-Bela. The regional conference will be held following issues that have been resolved around convening and finalising Branch General Meetings.
• MUSINA – 13 JUL 2022 (16H45) The South African Revenue Service (SARS) workers affiliated with the Public Servants Association (PSA) and trade union National Education, Health, and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) in Limpopo have joined the national wage strike. Workers are demanding a 12% wage increase, while the employer is offering 1.3%. Operations at all SARS offices in Limpopo, including at the Beitbridge border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe have been affected. Members of the public cannot access tax services.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 13 JUL 2022
• LYDENBURG – 13 JUL 2022 (06H05) Protest expected at the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality in Lydenburg today, 13 July 2022. Members of the Amalgamated Forum of Thaba Chweu have announced plans to conduct a protest match to the Municipality to hand over a Memorandum. The Forum has requested the temporary suspension of operations at all stores in the town, calling on members of the community to participate in the protest action. Demonstrators are expected to disperse from the Municipality at 11H00. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant and avoid affected areas during the demonstration. Authorities will be deployed in the area to monitor the protest.
• MIDDELBURG – 13 JUL 2022 (08H00) Motorists are advised to be vigilant when travelling on the R555 in the vicinity of Elandspruit Mine due to an ongoing protest. The R555 remains open for traffic flow. The situation remains volatile. Police are monitoring the area.
• STANDERTON – 13 JUL 2022 (11H50) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on Beyers Naude Street outside the Lekwa Municipality offices. The demonstrators have obstructed the road. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are on the scene. (09H50) Residents of Standerton have started gathering in the vicinity of Thuto Thebe Secondary School ahead of the march to the Municipal offices. (07H45) Protest expected by community members of Standerton at the Lekwa Municipality offices today, 13 July 2022. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Thuto Thebe Secondary School from 08H00 and march to the Municipal offices. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand service delivery and deliver a memorandum of grievances to the Executive Mayor of the municipality, Louis Thabethe. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• EMALAHLENI/ WITBANK – 13 JUL 2022 (17H50) Kwa-Guqa residents are busy barricading the N4 near the Kwa-Guqa Mall with debris. The residents are expected to protest against poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Previously, the demonstrators have set alight two trucks on Monday, 11 July 2022.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 13 JUL 2022
• POTCHEFSTROOM – 13 JUL 2022 (08H20) UPDATE Motorists are advised to avoid Chief Albert Luthuli Drive towards Promosa due to ongoing protest. Police are on the scene. (07H30) Protest reported in Promosa in the vicinity of Extension 4 and 5 Marikana Informal Settlements. The demonstrators are protesting due to service delivery related to electricity. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• POTCHEFSTROOM – 13 JUL 2022 (14H20) Deputy President David Mabuza stated that the Military Veterans’ Verification Committee will return to the North West next week to provide assistance to Military Veterans with outstanding payments. This follows after the Deputy President, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Presidential Task Team on Military Veterans, visited the Potchefstroom Army Support Base on Tuesday, 12 July 2022. The Deputy President held consultations with the Provincial Government and Military Veterans Associations. The Veterans raised their concerns regarding outstanding payments during the meeting.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 13 JUL 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 13 JUL 2022 (12H55) The Sol Plaatje Municipality has announced a planned water interruption in Kimberly and surrounding areas on Thursday, 21 July 2022, from 06H00 until 18H00. The interruption will allow Eskom to conduct maintenance work at the Riverton Substation. The KCC Waterworks, Riverton resort and Langleg resort will be affected by the maintenance work. The Municipality stated that it will provide updates on the progress.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 13 JUL 2022
• CAPE TOWN – 13 JUL 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the Philippi Police Station today, 13 July 2022, by the Philippi Horticultural Area Social Economic Development Forum (PHA SEDF). The demonstrators will gather at the Agrimark on Olieboom Street from 09H00 and march to the Philippi Police Station. The demonstrators will deliver a memorandum of demands to the City of Cape Town and the Station Commander of Philippi Police. The demonstrators are demanding improved Police services, job opportunities, improved City of Cape Town services, housing, and no farm evictions, among other reasons. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be deployed to monitor the march.
