• GQEBERHA/ PORT ELIZABETH – 14 JUL 2022 (08H15) UPDATE Demonstrations reported at the intersection of William Slammert Drive and Laurence Erasmus Drive in Bloemendal. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. (07H50) Police are firing rubber bullets in an attempt to disperse the demonstrators on Standford Road Bridge. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (07H25) Demonstrations reported at the intersection of Haworthia Drive and Beetlestone Road. The road has been barricaded with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (06H30) Road closure reported on the N2 in the vicinity of Cotswold due to protest. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (05H40) Demonstrations reported on the N2 and Stanford Road in the vicinity of Paapenkuil Cemetery. Taxi operators have obstructed the road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched. (21H30) Protest expected in Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas from 04H30 tomorrow, 14 July 2022. Public transport operators have reportedly held a meeting today, 13 July 2022, during which members agreed to blockade major routes targeting informal settlements in and around Port Elizabeth. The demonstration aims to protest against increasing fuel prices in the country. Participants are expected to gather at the Gelvan Park public swimming pool area from 04H15. Motorists are advised to avoid affected routes during the demonstration. Police are expected to be deployed in the affected areas.

• WELKOM – 13 JUL 2022 (23H00) Central University of Technology (CUT) Welkom Campus students have announced plans to continue the protest and boycott action of the mid-year examination. This follows after students held a demonstration at the CUT campus in Welkom today, 13 July 2022, demanding online examinations and student accommodation allowances. The students have stated that the protest will continue until the University’s Vice-Chancellor directly addresses them at the campus regarding their concerns.
• WELKOM – 14 JUL 2022 (08H25) Protest reported outside the Central University of Technology (CUT) Welkom campus. Students are protesting to demand examinations to be written online and demand student accommodation allowances. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the campus. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 14 JUL 2022
• SANDTON – 13 JUL 2022 (19H00) The United Democratic Movement (UDM) launched its nationwide campaign protest at Eskom’s Megawatt Park today, 13 July 2022. The party is demanding the resignation of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan, the Eskom board, and the management. The UDM is expected to protest in Mpumalanga on Thursday, 14 July 2022, in Limpopo on Friday, 15 July 2022, and in Bloemfontein, Free State, on Wednesday, 20 July 2022.
• GERMISTON – 13 JUL 2022 (20H00) Protest reported on the R554 and N3/ Heidelberg Road onramp in Roodekop. The demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. Community members are protesting due to poor service delivery related to electricity supply challenges. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Public Order Police are on the scene.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 13 JUL 2022 (22H20) The City of Tshwane has announced the arrests of two Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officials at the Garsfontein Police Station in Pretoria East. The arrests follow after a case of harassment and extortion had recently been opened by a resident against the two TMPD officers. The resident alleges that the TMPD officers followed her to her place of residence in the Erasmuskloof area, whereafter the officers allegedly compelled the resident to withdraw R3,000 from a nearby automatic teller machine (ATM). However, the ATM had reportedly been out of order, during which the officials decided to use a money transfer service. The resident has since reported the incident to the Garsfontein Police Station, whereafter the officers were called in for questioning. The City has initiated the necessary internal processes for the suspension of the two officers pending further investigations.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 14 JUL 2022 (02H00) The City of Tshwane has announced a scheduled water supply disruption to residents in several suburbs supplied by the Moreleta Tower between 08H00 and 20H00 on Thursday, 14 July 2022. The water supply interruption is necessary to allow emergency repairs to the infrastructure at the Moreleta Tower. Affected areas include Brummeria Extension 0, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 13, 14, 16 and 17, Navors Extension 0, and Silverton Extension 6 and 9. The City will issue relevant updates to the public as the situation progresses.
• SOWETO – 14 JUL 2022 (06H05) The African National Congress (ANC) Greater Johannesburg Region has announced that a community memorial service is expected to be held at the Nomzamo Park Community Hall in Orlando East, Soweto, today, 14 July 2022, at 14H00. The memorial service is being held following the recent mass shooting at a liquor outlet in Nomzamo Park, during which several community members lost their lives.
• JOHANNESBURG – 14 JUL 2022 (06H55) Protest expected by members of the Woman of Justice Movement today, 14 July 2022, at the Johannesburg Gauteng South High Court and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) offices from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against the ongoing persecution of Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane. The Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) Spokesperson, Carl Niehaus, is expected to join the protest. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• JOHANNESBURG – 14 JUL 2022 (07H00) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold the EFF Presser on Thursday, 14 July 2022, from 12H00 at the Winnie Madikizela Mandela House. The EFF Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to address the EFF Presser.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 14 JUL 2022
• MPOPHOMENI – 13 JUL 2022 (19H30) The uMngeni Municipality has completed meter audits and installed a new R150,000 transformer today, 13 July 2022, in the Mpophomeni area. This follows ongoing protest actions by Mpophomeni residents on the R617 regarding electricity supply challenges after a transformer blew. The Council is expected to meet on Thursday, 14 July 2022, and decide on the disciplinary action process for councillors with evidence against them. One person has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing. The Municipality office will be reopened on Thursday and resume services.
• GAMALAKHE – 14 JUL 2022 (06H10) Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to meet with KwaZulu-Natal taxi associations today, 14 July 2022, from 09H00 at the Ugu Sport and Leisure Centre, Gamalakhe. The Minister is expected to address taxi associations’ safety concerns. The planned meeting follows an increase in taxi-related violence, during which taxi owners, drivers and members of the taxi industry leadership and the public have been injured and killed.
• HLABISA – 14 JUL 2022 (06H40) Protest reported on the R618 in Hlabisa. The demonstrators are protesting due to the power outages in the area. • HLABISA – 14 JUL 2022 (09H40) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on the R618 in the vicinity of Choppies Supermarket. The R618 road towards Nongoma has been barricaded with burning tyres and debris. • STEELPOORT – 14 JUL 2022 (07H20) The Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) is expected to take part in the Steelpoort Mining and Industrial Expo today, 14 July 2022, at the Winterveld Recreational Club. As part of solidifying relations with the private sector, RAL is expected to brief mining companies on its plans to revive the Steelpoort Bridge project.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 14 JUL 2022
• EMALAHLENI/ WITBANK – 13 JUL 2022 (21H50) UPDATE Demonstrators have barricaded the N4 approaching the Matthews Phosa off-ramp in the vicinity of KG Mall in Witbank. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Public Order Police (POP) officers have been deployed to the area. (17H50) Kwa-Guqa residents are busy barricading the N4 near the Kwa-Guqa Mall with debris. The residents are expected to protest against poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Previously, the demonstrators have set alight two trucks on Monday, 11 July 2022.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 14 JUL 2022
• KLERKSDORP – 13 JUL 2022 (18H50) Agricultural company Senwes and Schneider Electric have partnered on a substation upgrade project to ensure an accessible, advanced and stable electricity supply. Senwes’ head office in Klerksdorp had been experiencing energy supply challenges due to ageing infrastructure. The substation is owned by the City of Matlosana. Senwes and Motla Consulting Engineers decided to upgrade and move the substation to ensure its Klerksdorp offices and surrounding area benefit from a safe and efficient energy supply based on advanced technology that could be managed from outside the confines of a building.
• MAHIKENG – 14 JUL 2022 (09H40) Peaceful protest reported at Leopard Park residence. Rakitsenyane community members are protesting to demand Signal Development company and North West Development Corporation (NWDC) to compensate the community. This follows after the community was evicted from Leopard Park to build residential townhouses. The demonstrators have obstructed the entrance of the residential area. Police are on the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 14 JUL 2022
• UPINGTON – 13 JUL 2022 (19H20) The South African Revenue Service (SARS) workers affiliated with the Public Servants Association (PSA) and trade union National Education, Health, and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) in the Northern Cape have joined the national wage strike. Workers are demanding a 12% wage increase, while the employer is offering 1.3%. The SARS office in Upington, including at the Nakop border post between South Africa and Namibia, has been affected.

• CAPE TOWN – 14 JUL 2022 (08H50) Peaceful protest expected by members of the Krotoa Foundation Movement at the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture on Tuesday, 09 August 2022. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand the renaming of the Cape Town International Airport to Krotoa International Airport.
