• GQEBERHA/ PORT ELIZABETH – 14 JUL 2022 (10H00) Protest reported on the R342 Road between Addo and Paterson. Road construction workers are protesting due to their non-payment of their salaries. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route. Police are on the scene.
• GQEBERHA/ PORT ELIZABETH – 14 JUL 2022 (18H10) UPDATE The demonstrators have dispersed, and the roads are open for traffic in Port Elizabeth. The Police used stun grenades to disperse the taxi operators, and eight taxis were impounded. Police are monitoring the situation. (12H40) Demonstrations reported on Durban Road in Korsten. (05H40) Demonstrations reported on the N2 and Stanford Road in the vicinity of Paapenkuil Cemetery. Taxi operators have obstructed the road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched. (21H30) Protest expected in Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas from 04H30 tomorrow, 14 July 2022. Public transport operators have reportedly held a meeting today, 13 July 2022, during which members agreed to blockade major routes targeting informal settlements in and around Port Elizabeth. The demonstration aims to protest against increasing fuel prices in the country. Participants are expected to gather at the Gelvan Park public swimming pool area from 04H15. Motorists are advised to avoid affected routes during the demonstration. Police are expected to be deployed in the affected areas.

• WELKOM – 14 JUL 2022 (08H25) Protest reported outside the Central University of Technology (CUT) Welkom campus. Students are protesting to demand examinations to be written online and demand student accommodation allowances. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the campus. • BLOEMFONTEIN – 14 JUL 2022 (15H29) The Stop Farm Murders movement led by Petrus Phakamile Sitho is expected to open a case against President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Bloemfontein High Court on 19 July 2022 from 08H00. A large gathering of supporters is expected at the court. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be dispatched.

• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 14 JUL 2022 (02H00) The City of Tshwane has announced a scheduled water supply disruption to residents in several suburbs supplied by the Moreleta Tower between 08H00 and 20H00 on Thursday, 14 July 2022. The water supply interruption is necessary to allow emergency repairs to the infrastructure at the Moreleta Tower. Affected areas include Brummeria Extension 0, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 13, 14, 16 and 17, Navors Extension 0, and Silverton Extension 6 and 9. The City will issue relevant updates to the public as the situation progresses.
• SOWETO – 14 JUL 2022 (06H05) The African National Congress (ANC) Greater Johannesburg Region has announced that a community memorial service is expected to be held at the Nomzamo Park Community Hall in Orlando East, Soweto, today, 14 July 2022, at 14H00. The memorial service is being held following the recent mass shooting at a liquor outlet in Nomzamo Park, during which several community members lost their lives.
• JOHANNESBURG – 14 JUL 2022 (06H55) Protest expected by members of the Woman of Justice Movement today, 14 July 2022, at the Johannesburg Gauteng South High Court and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) offices from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against the ongoing persecution of Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane. The Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) Spokesperson, Carl Niehaus, is expected to join the protest. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. • RANDFONTEIN – 14 JUL 2022 (08H05) UPDATE Demonstrations reported at the intersection of the R28 and N12. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Community members are expected to protest against loadshedding. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be dispatched to the area.
• JOHANNESBURG – 14 JUL 2022 (12H30) Protest expected by members of the African National Congress (ANC) and ANC supporters on Friday, 15 July 2022, at Chief Albert Luthuli House. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Gandhi Square from 09H00 and march to Luthuli House. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 14 JUL 2022 (14H34) The South African Police Service (SAPS) has deployed the Tactical Response Teams (TRT) to respond to the community policing concerns and increase Police visibility. The TRT is deployed with the aim of preventing and combating crime in hotspot areas, along with apprehending fugitives. The Government calls on communities to partner with the police and other law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe country. The Community Policing Forums (PCF) continue to ensure liaison between communities, the police station commander and personnel.
• JOHANNESBURG – 14 JUL 2022 (14H45) UPDATE The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, called on South African citizens to support the National Shutdown to demand the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa. Malema stated that since Ramaphosa assumed office as the President of South Africa, the quality of life and livelihoods are degenerating. The EFF will also form part of all progressive formations and organisations in South Africa to plan and engage in a National Shutdown. The EFF supports a motion that Ramaphosa must appear before the Section 194 Committee in Parliament to answer questions about the suspension of the Public Protector. (07H00) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold the EFF Presser on Thursday, 14 July 2022, from 12H00 at the Winnie Madikizela Mandela House. The EFF Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to address the EFF Presser.
• JOHANNESBURG – 14 JUL 2022 (15H10) The United Taxi Associations Front (UTAF) has given the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) and Government three weeks to increase taxi fares. The UTAF is threatening a national transport shutdown if the NTA does not address the matter. This is due to the rising cost of fuel. The NTA earlier called on the Government to assist in limiting the impact of rising fuel prices on the taxi industry as it is affecting taxi owners and commuters.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 14 JUL 2022 (15H50) The Presidency has confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa will make an announcement in the following days on the Government’s emergency plans to address the country’s increasing rotating electricity outages. Ramaphosa stated that the Government is committed to exploring several opportunities to ensure that enough electricity is generated to meet the country’s energy requirements. The President will address the nation after consulting with energy experts.
• SANDTON – 14 JUL 2022 (17H30) Protest expected at the Discovery Group Head Office on West Street in Sandton on Saturday, 16 July 2022, from 11H00 until 14H00. The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) will be protesting in support of employees who were dismissed for refusing to submit to the mandatory vaccination policy of the company. ACDP President, Kenneth Meshoe, will be addressing the gathering. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be dispatched to the protest.

• HLABISA – 14 JUL 2022 (09H40) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on the R618 in the vicinity of Choppies Supermarket. The R618 road towards Nongoma has been barricaded with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (06H40) Protest reported on the R618 in Hlabisa. The demonstrators are protesting due to the power outages in the area. The demonstrators have barricaded the area with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• PINETOWN – 14 JUL 2022 (10H55) Violent clashes reported between shop vendors and Police officers on Crompton Street. The reason for the clashes is unknown at this stage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Public Order Police (POP) officers have been deployed to the area.
• GAMALAKHE – 14 JUL 2022 (16H00) UPDATE Police Minister Bheki Cele stated that a police team will be established to investigate the taxi-related violence and killings within the industry in Ugu and Harry Gwala District. Cele made the announcement during the meeting with 18 taxi associations in Gamalakhe today, 14 July 2022. (06H10) Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to meet with KwaZulu-Natal taxi associations on Thursday, 14 July 2022, from 09H00 at the Ugu Sport and Leisure Centre, Gamalakhe. The Minister is expected to address taxi associations’ safety concerns.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 14 JUL 2022
• STEELPOORT – 14 JUL 2022 (07H20) The Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) is expected to take part in the Steelpoort Mining and Industrial Expo today, 14 July 2022, at the Winterveld Recreational Club. As part of solidifying relations with the private sector, RAL is expected to brief mining companies on its plans to revive the Steelpoort Bridge project.
• MUSINA – 14 JUL 2022 (13H50) The Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, is unveiling the first 200 cohorts of the Border Management Authority (BMA) Border Guards at the Beitbridge Port of Entry in Musina. The newly-recruited members of the Border Guard were carefully selected and trained, with a focus on fitness and physical assessment. This cohort will be statically deployed at the identified five vulnerable segments of the borderline, working together with members of the South African National Defence Force. The BMA, which is South Africa’s new, single authority for border management with a single command and control, was established through the Border Management Authority Act of 2020. It will be fully established on 01 April 2023 through the integration of five streams of functions performed by various government departments. The authority will tighten border management by implementing an integrated and coordinated approach in the border management environment. This is an improvement on the previous multi-agency approach comprising multiple authorities with different mandates. The BMA aims to address border security challenges impacting the country and its neighbours, such as uncoordinated traveller processing, cross-border criminality, illegal crossings and undue delays in the facilitation of movement of goods and services.
• POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 14 JUL 2022 (14H15) Members of the Progressive Youth Alliance are planning to march to the office of the Limpopo Premier in August 2022 to make demands for the right to work, youth empowerment and development opportunities. This follows after the Provincial Legislature discussed plans to collapse the Youth Parliament on 08 July 2022. Provincial Coordinator of the South African National Civic Organization (SANCO) Youth Formation Lepino Ramogale stated that they view the Youth Parliament as an important platform to discuss and formulate solutions to their challenges and also inform government programmes on their needs.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 14 JUL 2022
• MBOMBELA/ NELSPRUIT – 14 JUL 2022 (17H40) The Democratic Alliance (DA) has written to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) requesting them to investigate the quality of drinking water in Mpumalanga after a report revealed that the water coming out of the majority of taps is hazardous for consumption. Residents in Mpumalanga have raised concerns regarding the appearance of the water coming out of taps. A water assessment in 2021 and the 2022 Blue Drop progress report indicated that 71% of water supply systems in Mpumalanga did not comply with chemical determinants and that the presence of chemicals in the water may present an immediate or long-term health risk for those who consume affected supplies.

• MAHIKENG – 14 JUL 2022 (09H40) Peaceful protest reported at Leopard Park residence. Rakitsenyane community members are protesting to demand Signal Development company and North West Development Corporation (NWDC) to compensate the community. This follows after the community was evicted from Leopard Park to build residential townhouses. The demonstrators have obstructed the entrance of the residential area. Police are on the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 14 JUL 2022
• HONDEKLIP BAY – 14 JUL 2022 (16H20) The Green Connection has raised concerns regarding the exploration project by Eco Atlantic, which took over the Azinam Group. Community Outreach Coordinator for The Green Connection, Neville van Rooy, stated that the oil rig is allegedly already on its way to Hondeklip Bay from the North Sea. The meetings between the public and Eco Atlantic had a low turnout and did not meet the requirement of meaningful public engagement. Neville stated that the community members should be aware of the potential environmental risks oil drilling pose to the community and the fishing industry.

• CAPE TOWN – 14 JUL 2022 (08H50) Peaceful protest expected by members of the Krotoa Foundation Movement at the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture on Tuesday, 09 August 2022. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand the renaming of the Cape Town International Airport to Krotoa International Airport.
