• DESPATCH – 15 JUL 2022 (08H25) Police have announced that the R75 Joe Slovo and the M19 has been reported for traffic flow. This follows after a service delivery protest. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. The situation remains volatile. Police are monitoring the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 15 JUL 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 14 JUL 2022 (19H30) The Free State Traffic Department embarked on a peaceful protest today, 14 July 2022, at Lengau Centre in Bloemfontein. Multiple traffic vehicles closed off the OR Tambo House and St Andrews Street. The traffic officers have been protesting for basic needs, including uniforms and compensation for overtime worked. The traffic officers handed over a memorandum to the Premier’s Office.
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 14 JUL 2022 (20H00) The former African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip of the Free State Provincial Legislature, who was suspended in October 2021, has now officially been removed from this position. The ANC took a decision to replace Vusi Tshabalala with Thabo Meeko as the Chief Whip of the party. However, Tshabalala remains an ordinary Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL). Tshabalala was accused of working with opposition parties to topple the ruling party in the Qwaqwa-based Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality, and in June 2022, the ANC Disciplinary Committee (DC) acquitted him on all charges.
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 14 JUL 2022 (22H00) Free State Police have announced the arrest of a suspect on allegations of possession of stolen goods valued at over R80 million. The arrest follows the launch of a joint operation between the Provincial Police Organised Crime Unit, the Bloemfontein Tactical Response Team and the Local Criminal Record Centre following information received regarding a warehouse in the East End Business Park allegedly being used to store goods from hijacked trucks. The officers located 1,680 boxes of diesel engine catalytic converters worth an estimated R80 million in the warehouse. After failing to produce proof of ownership of the goods, officers detained the suspect on allegations of possession of stolen goods. Further investigations indicate that the goods originated from a truck hijacking incident between the Eastern Cape and Gauteng in May 2022. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the hijacking incident.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 15 JUL 2022
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 14 JUL 2022 (22H20) Recently kidnapped Businessman Mohammed Mayet has been located in the south of Johannesburg earlier today, 14 July 2022. This follows after Mayet had been abducted by unidentified armed suspects from his retail business premises in Lillian Ngoyi Street in Pretoria Central on 29 June 2022. Mayet has reportedly been freed by his kidnappers, with no ransom payment made. The suspects currently remain at large. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
• JOHANNESBURG – 14 JUL 2022 (23H00) The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has announced the signing of an inflation wage agreement with Eskom Rotek Industries (ERI), a subsidiary of Eskom, in Rosherville, Johannesburg, during a meeting held earlier today, 14 July 2022. The agreement is valid for one year, between 01 July 2022 and 30 June 2022. The arrangement states that all bargaining unit employees are set to receive a 7% increase across the board, based on an employee’s basic salary, with effect from 30 June 2022. Housing allowances are also expected to increase by R400 to R3,825. Additionally, maternity leave will increase from four months to five months. NUMSA has stated that a task team is expected to be assigned to address several other issues, including the eradication of the T02 and T03 salary scales, parental leave, adoption leave, the sixth month of maternity leave, long service increments, and transportation bonuses.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 14 JUL 2022 (23H00) National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has issued an order for the removal of Major-General Wally Rhoode from his position as the Head of the President Protection Unit. Masemola reportedly signed an order for Rhoode’s removal, addressed to Police Minister Bheki Cele, Hawks Head Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya, provincial and deputy National Commissioners and Police Head Office authorities. Police Spokesperson Colonel Athelnda Mathe has indicated that the decision follows efforts to strengthen governance and accountability.
• JOHANNESBURG – 15 JUL 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the Chief Albert Luthuli House in Johannesburg Central by members of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) today, 15 July 2022. MKMVA members are expected to gather at Gandhi Square from 09H00 to march toward the African National Congress (ANC) Headquarters, Luthuli House. The march aims to raise several demands, including the immediate suspension of President Cyril Ramaphosa, reduction of petrol prices, an immediate end to loadshedding and the appointment of a Commission of Inquiry into the alleged Glencore SA corruption, in addition to the implementation of the Living Wage and 12% salary increases for all public servants. Authorities are expected to be deployed to monitor the demonstration. Motorists are advised of expected ground travel disruptions in the area during the march.
• JOHANNESBURG – 15 JUL 2022 (06H10) National shutdown expected today, 15 July 2022, by the Private Security Sector. A total of 23 recognised unions have reached a deadlock in the wage negotiations with employer federations on 08 July 2022. The unions demand a 16% average salary increase over a three-year contract with improved allowances and benefits. The unions have approached the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) following a deadlock with employer federations. Motorists are advised to exercise caution on national routes, regional routes and high-risk areas during the industrial strike. Police will be deployed to protest actions.
• JOHANNESBURG – 15 JUL 2022 (09H10) UPDATE The African Nation Revolutionary Youth Group (ANRYG) and ANC members from all provinces and regions are expected to over a memorandum of demands to the ANC leadership at Luthuli House. The march is expected to commence at 10H00. Motorists are advised to avoid Rissik Street, Fox Street and Pixley Ka Seme Street. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 12H30. (06H05) Protest expected by members of the African National Congress (ANC) and ANC supporters today, 15 July 2022, at Chief Albert Luthuli House. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Gandhi Square from 09H00 and march to Luthuli House. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 15 JUL 2022 (09H45) Protest expected by the members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) today, 15 July 2022, at the Department of Public Enterprises. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Church Square in Pretoria. Employees of Denel Metal Pressings are expected to protest against unpaid salaries. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 15 JUL 2022
• PIETERMARITZBURG – 14 JUL 2022 (22H30) The Pietermaritzburg High Court is expected to hear the trial against four suspects accused of murder in relation to the fatal shooting of African National Congress (ANC) Youth League Secretary-General Sindiso Magaqa on Monday, 18 July 2022. The suspects are charged with conspiracy to commit murder, murder, attempted murder, malicious damage to property and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, including a prohibited firearm. The trial is expected to continue until 12 August 2022.

• LOUIS TRICHARDT – 15 JUL 2022 (06H35) Protest expected by the members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) today, 15 July 2022, at the Tshilwavhusiku Healthcare centre. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Usave Supermarket, Ravele, from 09H00 and march to the healthcare centre. • PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 15 JUL 2022 (07H55) Protest expected by members of the African People’s Convention (APC) today, 15 July 2022, at Eskom offices in Polokwane. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Jack Botes Hall from 08H00 and march to the offices. The demonstrators are expected to protest against load shedding. • BELFAST – 14 JUL 2022 (22H30) UPDATE Demonstrators are burning tyres and debris on the N4 in the vicinity of the Engen Belfast 1 Stop filling station in Belfast. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. (22H10) Protest reported on the N4 approaching the Engen Belfast 1 Stop filling station in Belfast. Reports indicate that a group of community members are protesting at the filling station. The reason for the demonstration remains undetermined at this time. Authorities have been deployed to the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
• EMGWENYA – 14 JUL 2022 (23H45) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed from the area. The N4 at the Boven Tunnel has been reopened to traffic. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant when travelling in the area. (22H00) Community members from Waterval Boven are protesting against frequent unscheduled electricity supply interruptions being experienced in the area. The protest follows a community meeting with the Representatives from the Local Municipality earlier today, 14 July 2022, during which members failed to resolve the situation. (21H45) The N4 and Elands Valley Road has been closed to traffic due to the ongoing protest action in the vicinity of the Boven Tunnel. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Authorities are on the scene. (20H15) Protest reported on the N4 at the Waterval Boven tunnel. Community members are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstrators are throwing stones at passing vehicles. Motorists are advised to use the Schoemanskloof route. Police are on the scene.
• MIDDELBURG – 15 JUL 2022 (09H00) Protest reported on Hospitaal Road in the vicinity of Steve Tshwete Municipality offices. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

• KLERKSDORP – 14 JUL 2022 (19H00) Motorists are advised to avoid the Golden Way in Randlespark in the vicinity of the mines. Armed illegal miners, also known as Zama Zamas, are allegedly threatening motorists. The illegal miners have also set the bush alight. Security services are on the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 15 JUL 2022
• PAMPIERSTAD – 14 JUL 2021 (19H15) Residents of Pampierstad have raised concerns regarding healthcare services. This follows after the Sakhile Clinic has closed. The clinic has been closed due to water leakages flooding consultation rooms. Residents stated that they are unable to access primary healthcare services. The Health Department stated that it is attending to infrastructure and resource issues experienced at this clinic and will ensure that residents receive healthcare services. The clinic is expected to be closed for the next two weeks while maintenance work is underway.
