• TABANKULU – 22 JUL 2022 (13H25) Protest reported at the Ntabankulu Local Municipality by taxi operators from the Uncedo Taxi Service in Ntabankulu. The taxi operators are demanding that the Municipality build a local taxi rank. Motorists are advised to avoid Main Road at the Municipality office. Police are on the scene.
• MOTHERWELL – 22 JUL 2022 (14H45) UPDATE Residents of Nomakanjani informal settlement have uprooted and burned electricity poles in this week’s protest in Motherwell. The City erected electricity poles. However, did not finish the project. Nelson Mandela Bay, Mayoral Committee Member for Electricity and Energy Luxolo Namette, stated that people in Nomakanjani had illegally connected to the municipal transformers, causing them to overload. The City is expected to install at least two transformers by Saturday, 23 July 2022. (11H00) Protest reported on Addo Road in the vicinity of Motherwell. Reports indicate that the demonstrators have set alight two trucks. Motorists have been advised to avoid the Addo Road and Old Grahamstown intersection. Police are on the scene and have cordoned off the area. (07H00) Road closure reported on Addo Road/ M17 in the vicinity of Motherwell. Reports indicate that a heavy motor vehicle has been set alight. This comes as residents from the Nomakanjani informal settlements have been protesting due to poor service delivery related to electricity supply. Relevant authorities have been deployed to the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
• GRAAFF-REINET – 22 JUL 2022 (17H45) The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) stated that its members in the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality have threatened to embark on a strike due to the non-payment of their salaries on Monday, 18 July 2022. This follows after the Local Council failed to pass the municipal budget and Integrated Development Plan on Thursday, 21 July 2022. The Democratic Alliance stated that the council deadlocked during the voting process, with the votes split between the DA, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Freedom Front Plus (FF+), and the African National Congress (ANC) together with the Compatriots of South Africa. The Municipal Manager, Eddie Rankwana, also confirmed in a memorandum that the non-approval of the budget will impact the municipal workers’ salaries.

• KOPPIES – 22 JUL 2022 (11H15) Protest reported on Third Street near the Koppies Municipality. Community members are protesting over issues related to basic service delivery. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are on the scene.
• PARYS – 22 JUL 2022 (12H30) UPDATE Community members, along with members of the South African National Civic Organization (SANCO), have arrived at the Ngwathe Municipality Parys Office. The leaders of SANCO will be delivering a memorandum of grievances to the municipal leadership. Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant. Police are on the scene and are monitoring the situation. (06H30) Protest expected by South African National Civic Organization (SANCO) members today, 22 July 2022, from 08H00 in Parys. The members will be protesting in demand for better service delivery in the Free State. The members will be gathering at the Mandela Stadium in Parys and march to the Ngwathe Municipality. The demonstration is aimed at putting pressure on the municipal leadership to prioritise service delivery in the municipality. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the demonstrations. Police will be deployed to the scene.
• WINBURG – 22 JUL 2022 (15H00) The Masilonyana Local Municipality has served a group of residents with eviction letters, despite a standing landmark ruling by the Constitutional Court in 2017 over the eviction notices. The municipality has decided to effect this court order obtained in 2019 at the Free State High Court. This court order warns residents who allegedly occupied a site in Makeleketla near Winburg to vacate its occupied piece of land within a specified period. In the court order, the affected residents have been given 15 days to vacate. In 2017, the constitutional court order determined that judges have an obligation to ensure evictions will not leave people homeless. Community members in Makeleketla vowed to defend those affected by these eviction orders.
• WINBURG – 22 JUL 2022 (15H50) Residents are expected to deliver an application to protest at the Masilonyana Municipality in Winburg today, 22 July 2022. This comes after the municipality effected a 2019 court order, evicting residents from a piece of land allegedly occupied illegally. Community leader Mpholo Moshe stated that the municipality has failed to allocate sites for residents in the past 20 years, and as a result, people have struggled to get proper housing from the Government. Residents were promised a new piece of land. However, there are concerns regarding that piece of land. Moshe stated that the piece of land being offered by the municipality is inhabitable, and residents have since objected to the offering.
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 22 JUL 2022 (16H30) The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality’s power entity, Centlec, intends to oppose an application made to High Court seeking to declare him a delinquent. CEO Malefana Sebokoto will contest the merits of the application made by the ousted Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Hlonelwa Nkomo, at the Free State High Court. Nkomo placed on record allegations that there are no signed minutes of a board meeting showing that Sebokoto was employed and further alleged that Sebokoto abused his powers. Centlec’s Spokesperson, Lelele Mamatu, stated that Nkomo, as a former employee, was successfully interdicted from accessing and entering any of Centlec’s premises.

• JOHANNESBURG – 22 JUL 2022 (00H30) The City of Ekurhuleni’s officials and residents of Tembisa have agreed to hold a meeting. This follows after the protest action that occurred on Wednesday, 20 July 2022, in the Thembisa area. The protestors had marched from Thembisa to the OR Tambo Government Precinct, Germiston, to deliver their Memorandum of Demands (MoD). The MoD had been received by the Executive Mayor Alderman Tania Campell, accompanied by additional members of the Mayoral Committee. The venue and time of the meeting have not yet been announced.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 22 JUL 2022 (01H50) The Democratic Alliance (DA) is set to challenge the Government’s plan to agree to Eskoms’ proposed tariff increase of 32,7% through the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) at the Gauteng High Court. Eskom has additionally proposed an R938 tariff charge for users utilising solar panels. The DA noted that the increase in tariffs proposed by Eskom seeks to decrease its financial burden. However, the DA further stated that the financial burden is not caused by consumers but by the Municipalities that do not pay the electricity bills. DA Member of Parliament Kevin Mileham has requested the public to increase their attendance at the public participation hearings to prevent the proposed increase.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 22 JUL 2022 (06H15) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to host the Federal Republic of Côte d’Ivoire counterpart, President Alassane Ouattara, for a State Visit to South Africa today, 22 July 2022. This will be President Ouattara’s reciprocal visit to South Africa following President Ramaphosa’s successful State Visit to Côte d’Ivoire in December 2021. President Ramaphosa and President Ouattara are expected to hold bilateral discussions, witness the signing of a number of agreements and address a South Africa – Côte d’Ivoire Business Forum.
• SANDTON – 22 JUL 2022 (07H30) Stay-away demonstration expected by E-Hailing operators in Gauteng on Monday, 08 August 2022. E-hailing drivers will be protesting against the company’s unfair treatment towards drivers, including the trip radar which has been imposed on Uber drivers to accept risky and unprofitable trips. The decision follows a consultative meeting between several representatives of e-hailing drivers in Gauteng on 12 July 2022 at the Marlboro Community Hall. The Provincial Council, with the Regional Task Team leaders of five Regions, has declared to all operators to stay offline to boycott Uber, Bolt and Indriver on 08 August 2022 until further notice. Members of the public are advised to remain cautious of the planned demonstration.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 22 JUL 2022 (12H15) UPDATE Members of the COSATU are demonstrating outside the Mineral Resources and Energy Department (DMRE) in Pretoria. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation. (11H30) Demonstrations are underway outside the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Campus in Sunnyside. Members affiliated with the COSATU are protesting against the high cost of living concerning electricity rates, petrol increases and food prices. Reports indicate that the demonstrators will be marching to the Department of Mineral Resources. Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation. (06H10) Protest expected at the Pretoria Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Campus in Sunnyside today, 22 July 2022, from 10H00. The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has called on workers to mobilise in the #FightBack campaign against the high cost of living, such as electricity rates. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police will be deployed to the scene.
• JOHANNESBURG – 22 JUL 2022 (14H45) UPDATE Member of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the National Education, Health, and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) are protesting outside the SARS office. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. (06H15) Protest expected at the South African Revenue Service (SARS) office on Rissik Street in Marshalltown today, 22 July 2022. The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) will be protesting in solidarity with SARS employees. SARS employees have embarked on an industrial strike to demand a 12% wage increase. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the protest.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 22 JUL 2022 (15H20) President Cyril Ramaphosa has submitted written answers to the Public Protector for the Phala Phala investigation. Spokesperson Vincent Magwena stated that Ramaphosa missed a deadline to answer questions related to the Public Protector’s probe into a robbery that took place at his Phala Phala farm in February 2020. Magwenya stated that Ramaphosa did not deliberately avoid accountability by missing the initial deadline.
• SANDTON – 22 JUL 2022 (16H00) Eskom announced the implementation of Stage 1 loadshedding from 16H00 until 00H00 today, 22 July 2022. Loadshedding will then be suspended as the system has sufficiently recovered.

• DURBAN – 22 JUL 2022 (06H00) The African National Congress (ANC) in the province is expected to hold its Ninth Provincial Conference from today, 22 July 2022, to Sunday, 24 July 2022. The Provincial Conference is expected to be held at the Olive Convention Centre. The event will be held under the theme Unity, Renewal, to serve the people of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
• NQOLENI – 22 JUL 2022 (06H25) Protest reported on the R33 at Keates Drift between Dundee and uMsinga Local Government Area. Community members are protesting due to water supply challenges. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with debris and burning tyres. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route. Police have been deployed to the scene.
• DURBAN – 22 JUL 2022 (12H20) Protest reported outside the Olive Convention Centre in Durban. Members of the African National Congres (ANC) from Ward 91 in eThekwini are claiming that the general branch meeting had not been convened properly. The members are protesting with placards expressing their grievances following the matter. Members of the public are advised to remain cautious. Security personnel are on the scene.

• BELA-BELA – 22 JUL 2022 (06H20) The African National Congress (ANC) Regional Task Team (RTT) in the Waterberg Region is expected to convene the Regional Conference from today, 22 July 2022, until Sunday, 24 July 2022, at the Aventura Resort in Bela-Bela. The regional conference will be held following issues that have been resolved around convening and finalising Branch General Meetings.
• POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 22 JUL 2022 (08H10) The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, has activated a 72-hour activation plan to apprehend the suspects responsible for the murder of Moses Maluleke, the Mayor of the Collins Chabane Local Municipality in Limpopo. Maluleke had been fatally shot at his residence on Thursday evening, 21 July 2022, and injured his son by three unknown suspects. A case of murder and attempted murder has been filed. Search operations have been launched in the area to apprehend the suspects.
• GIYANI – 22 JUL 2022 (08H30) Commuters from the Dzumeri Taxi Association (DTA) in Giyani have announced plans to boycott after the increase in taxi fares in the Limpopo Province. This follows after the DTA increased taxi fares due to the increase in petrol prices in South Africa (SA). Commuters are seeking Great North Transport (GNT) services due to their grievances with the DTA.

• MBOMBELA/ NELSPRUIT – 22 JUL 2022 (12H05) UPDATE The EFF leadership at the Nelspruit Magistrate Court is addressing the demonstrators outside the court. This comes as the indictment of the case has been postponed to 22 August 2022. The bail hearing for the first accused has been remanded to 25 July 2022, while the bail application for the other two accused has been postponed to 27 July 2022. The suspects will remand in custody. (10H30) Demonstrations reported outside the Nelspruit Magistrates Court. Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are protesting to support the Gardee family as the bail hearing of the three men accused of murdering Hillary Gardee appears before the court. Members of the public are advised to avoid Bester Street. Police are on the scene.
• KRIEL – 22 JUL 2022 (15H15) Mpumalanga Public Works, Roads and Transport Member of Executive Council (MEC) Mohita Latchminarain stated that the Department will intensify its programme to eradicate illegal public transport operators across the province. The Department has deployed transport inspectors in Kriel to monitor compliance with the National Land Transport Act. The Department Spokesperson Bongani Dlamini stated that 32 public transport vehicles were impounded for operating without licences and pirating licences, among others.
• ERMELO – 22 JUL 2022 (18H00) UPDATE The Ermelo Magistrate’s Court postponed the attempted murder case to Tuesday, 26 July 2022, for a bail application outcome. The demonstrators have dispersed. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (12H40) Protest reported near the Ermelo Magistrates Court along the N17 Road. Community members are demanding that Louis Grobler, a farmer who is facing two counts of attempted murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, be denied bail and remain in custody. Police are on the scene and are monitoring the situation. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.

• POTCHEFSTROOM – 22 JUL 2022 (07H10) Fire reported at the Transnet building near Snowflake in Potchefstroom. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Emergency services are on scene. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area.
• KLERKSDORP – 22 JUL 2022 (07H50) The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Jouberton, in Klerksdorp, has been placed on high-alert following the death of a leader of the al-Qaeda Group known as Ghost Nguzo who was killed on Friday, 15 July 2022. The funeral of Nguzo will be held on Saturday, 23 July 2022, in Jouberton. Residents have expressed concerns regarding their safety. Meanwhile, investigations are underway, and no arrest has been effected.
• KLERKSDORP – 22 JUL 2022 (10H45) The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in the North West has called on the National Government to assume the administration of the Ditsobotla Local Municipality in Lichtenburg. This follows after several demonstrations against the poor service delivery at the municipality. According to reports, the municipality has reported disputes between the position of municipal manager, which has appointed a new security company to provide services, while there is still another company on site, which has led to violent disruptions between the new security company and municipal employees. The Chairperson for the South African Local Government Association in the North West, Khumalo Molefe, stated that the municipality should be placed under section 139 (b) subsection 7, due to the municipality’s challenges in providing better service delivery.
• POTCHEFSTROOM – 22 JUL 2022 (14H30) Employment and Labour Deputy Minister Boitumelo Moloi has concluded the inspections on labour law compliance of workplaces and trucks at Potchefstroom today, 22 July 2022. A number of workplaces and trucks were examined as part of the department’s inspections, which began on Wednesday, 20 July 2022. The department was looking for compliance with labour laws, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA), Compensation Fund Act (CFA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), and National Minimum Wage Act. Four illegal foreign nationals were detained on Thursday, 21 July 2022, during a roadblock along the congested N12 route as part of the weekly inspections with the Department of Employment and Labour, Home Affairs, Transport, and South African Police Services. The arrests come after the Wednesday, 20 July 2022, arrests of seven unauthorised foreign nationals at a local company. The suspects are expected to appear at Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court.

• PORT NOLLOTH – 22 JUL 2022 (08H50) The Port Nolloth State Police has filed a case of culpable homicide after a miner of the six illegal miners from Lesotho died following a collision 17 kilometres (KM) towards Port Nolloth. According to reports, the illegal miners were being driven to a mining site in Kleinsee. Five other miners have been hospitalised due to the accident.

• CAPE TOWN – 22 JUL 2022 (09H50) Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, Masizole Mnqasela, has been charged with misconduct after the Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Legal Commission (FLC) made the recommendation to the DA Federal Executive (FedEx). The DA’s Federal Legal Commission made the decision following an investigation into Mnqasela following allegations of corruption and fraud by embezzling funds. The DA’s Provincial Chair in the Western Cape, Jaco Londt, stated that investigations from protector disclosures by reports alleging fraud and or corruption relating to subsistence travel and personnel allowance claims by Mnqasela.
• BRACKENFELL – 22 JUL 2022 (11H05) Protest reported outside Cape Gate Mall in Brackenfell. Members of Operation Dudula have demanded that businesses in the area fire undocumented foreign nationals and employ the community. Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant. Police have been deployed to the scene.
• CAPE TOWN – 22 JUL 2022 (16H45) The Operation Dudula movement visited several businesses in Cape Town today, 22 July 2022, in an attempt to end the hiring of undocumented migrants. The businesses that have been visited were ones the group claimed owners were employing undocumented foreigners. It has been reported that the Cape Gate Mall in Cape Town had private security, law enforcement and a heavy police presence. The mall was anticipating unruly behaviour in the area. The Western Cape’s Deputy Chairperson of the movement, Lulamile Bavuma, stated that the demonstration was held with the aim of delivering memorandums.

• BLOEMFONTEIN: The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to celebrate its 9th Anniversary on Saturday, 30 July 2022, at the Dr Molemela Stadium from 11H00. The EFF Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to address the EFF members during the celebration.
• CAPE TOWN: Protest expected in the City Centre of Cape Town on Thursday, 04 August 2022.
