SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 26 JUL 2022
• MADIKANA – 26 JUL 2022 (07H00) Protest reported on the R61 at Tombo informal settlements near Port St. Johns towards Mthatha. Community members have blockaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Police have been deployed to the scene. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
• EAST LONDON – 26 JUL 2022 (15H05) The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in Eastern Cape is holding a meeting with workers and stakeholders within the communities to discuss plans to protest on 07 October 2022. COSATU is expected to hold a protest against job losses and increasing fuel prices. COSATU will announce the details of the protest in the near future.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 26 JUL 2022
• WELKOM – 26 JUL 2022 (12H00) Protest reported at the Matjhabeng Local Municipality Offices. Contractors have blockaded the offices due to their unpaid salaries for eight months. This comes as the contractors held a protest on Monday, 25 July 2022. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. The Tactical Response Team and Police are on the scene.
• WELKOM – 26 JUL 2022 (15H25) UPDATE The fire has been extinguished on Stateway Road/ R73. Emergency services are monitoring the situation. The Stateway Road/ R73 remain closed due to the protest. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (14H30) The demonstrators have set alight palm trees on Stateway Road/ R73 at the circle heading to Welkom Checkers on Arrarate Road. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. (12H00) Protest reported at the Matjhabeng Local Municipality Offices. Contractors have blockaded the offices due to their unpaid salaries for eight months. This comes as the contractors held a protest on Monday, 25 July 2022. • JOHANNESBURG – 26 JUL 2022 (00H40) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are expected to picket at 09H00 today, 26 July 2022, at the Tembisa Police Station. Demonstrators are expected to assemble at the Makhulong Stadium. EFF stated that the picket is aimed at decreasing Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the region. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and remain vigilant on the road for the duration of the picket.
• BENONI – 26 JUL 2022 (00H45) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are expected to picket at 09H00 today, 26 July 2022, at the Daveyton Police Station. Demonstrators are expected to assemble at the Sinaba Stadium. EFF stated that the picket is aimed at decreasing Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the region. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and remain vigilant on the road for the duration of the picket.
• BRAKPAN – 26 JUL 2022 (00H45) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are expected to picket at 09H00 today, 26 July 2022, at the Tsakane Police Station. Demonstrators are expected to assemble at Sindane Park. EFF stated that the picket is aimed at decreasing Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the region. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and remain vigilant on the road for the duration of the picket.
• VOSLOORUS – 26 JUL 2022 (00H50) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are expected to picket at 09H00 today, 26 July 2022, at the Vosloorus Police Station. Demonstrators are expected to assemble at Chris Hani Mall. EFF stated that the picket is aimed at decreasing Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the region. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and remain vigilant on the road for the duration of the picket.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 26 JUL 2022 (11H10) The High Court of Pretoria is expected to hear an urgent application by Prince Mbonisi KaBhekuzulu and others seeking to set aside the recognition and coronation of King Misuzulu KaZwelithini, scheduled to take place on 13 August 2022. Prince Mbonisi also wants the coronation committee to be disbanded and Inkosi Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the son of Inkosi Mathole Buthelezi and Princess Magogo. Demonstrations are taking place outside the High Court by members of the Zulu Regiment. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternative route.
• JOHANNESBURG – 26 JUL 2022 (11H15) Attempted robbery reported on Geranium Street, Rosettenville Junction, in Johannesburg. Reports indicate that unidentified suspects attempted to rob a weapon store, however, they were repelled. A suspect had been fatally shot, while two others fled the scene. South African Police Service (SAPS) are on the scene and are assessing the situation.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 26 JUL 2022 (14H20) UPDATE Road closure reported on Vermeulen Street from Bosman Street due to the ongoing protest. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the Central Business District. (13H00) Protest reported on Nana Sita and Lillian Ngoyi Road in Pretoria Central. Demonstrators have blockaded the road with debris. Motorists are advised to avoid Madiba Street between Bosman Street and Andries Street. Police are on the scene.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 26 JUL 2022 (14H45) Protest reported on the N4 in Lotus Gardens and on the R55 near Transoranje School. The demonstrators are barricading the roads with burning tyres. Previously, the community protested against power outages in the area. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 26 JUL 2022
• DURBAN – 26 JUL 2022 (05H50) The eThekwini Municipality announced that Eskom will re-introduce loadshedding in the province from 01 August 2022. This follows after Eskom suspended loadshedding in the province to assist residents and the Municipality in recovering from the floodings that occurred in April 2022.
• PIETERMARITZBURG – 26 JUL 2022 (10H30) The Msunduzi Municipality has confirmed a city-wide power outage in Pietermaritzburg due to a fault at the Retief primary substation. According to Councillor Dante Kemp of ward 27, the affected areas include the lower Central Business District (CBD), central CBD, Victoria Road, Winston Road, West Street, Hoosen Haffejee, Peter Kerchoff, Jabu Ndlovu, Pine, as well as the Boughton and Prestbury areas. The municipality also noted that the Crossways, Pine and Archibell Primary Substations are currently not operational. Primary substation teams are attending to the fault. Relevant updates will be provided to the public as the situation progresses.
• RICHARDS BAY – 26 JUL 2022 (17H00) The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is expected to hold a ceremony at the Richards Bay High School on Wednesday, 27 July 2022, from 09H00. The SANDF will participate in the Shared Accord Combined Multi-National Peace Support Operation and Humanitarian Relief Exercise. Authorities from the South African Police Service (SAPS), Disaster Management, Traffic Department and Fire Department are expected to attend the ceremony. During the event, a simulation exercise will be held, which will include demonstrations by an aircraft, paratroopers, and gunfire.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 26 JUL 2022
• POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 26 JUL 2022 (09H45) UPDATE The Leeto la Polokwane has suspended its services today, 26 July 2022, due to the disruption by the Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association. Commuters have been advised to use an alternative means of transport. (08H35) Taxi blockade reported at the Leeto la Polokwane Bus Depot. Reports indicate that the Seshego and Flora Park Taxi Associations have suspended services and have blocked the entrance of the depot with the vehicles. The Taxi Associations’ Public Relations Officer has stated that the Polokwane Municipality is not abiding by the memorandum. South African Police Service (SAPS) are on the scene and is monitoring the situation. Members of the public are advised to remain cautious.
• THOHOYANDOU – 26 JUL 2022 (10H15) Protest expected by members of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in Limpopo at the Thohoyandou Magistrate court on Wednesday, 27 July 2022, from 09H00. The union will be leading an Anti-Corruption picket calling for justice for the late Comrades Timson Musetsho and Ronald Mani. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police will be deployed to the scene.
• MOKOPANE – 26 JUL 2022 (16H15) The Mogalakwena Local Municipality in Mokopane has been directed to terminate the appointment of more than 400 permanent workers who were allegedly irregularly appointed by the Provincial Department of Co-operative Governance. The workers were allegedly irregularly appointed by the former acting Corporate Services Manager, Jabu Mashamaite, three years ago. Limpopo Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs Spokesperson Hitekani Magwedze stated that the termination of employment must be finalised before the end of August 2022. The municipality is expected to approach the court to set aside the appointments.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 26 JUL 2022
• MATSULU – 26 JUL 2022 (07H40) The Hawks have arrested six illegal miners, also known as Zama Zamas, in Matsulu C, 40 kilometres (km) from Mbombela, for being in illegal possession of gold during an operation to curb illegal mining networks in the province. The six suspects, including foreign nationals from Zimbabwe and Mozambique, have appeared before the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court. According to the Hawks Spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, the three suspects are Mozambican nationals, while one is a Zimbabwean national, and two others are South African nationals. The suspects will remain in custody for further investigations.
• BUSHBUCKRIDGE – 26 JUL 2022 (16H45) Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner Semakaleng Manamela has welcomed the arrests of three suspects in connection with the hijacking and murder of an off-duty traffic officer. The suspects are expected to appear before the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court soon. The victim, who was stationed at Mapulaneng Cost Centre, was killed at Saselani Trust near Bushbuckridge last Friday, 22 July 2022. The suspects were arrested after Police followed up on information regarding a suspicious vehicle parked behind a certain residence in Angincourt outside Bushbuckridge.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 26 JUL 2022
• RUSTENBURG – 26 JUL 2022 (09H00) The Rustenburg Local Municipality is scheduled to host an ordinary meeting of the Council today, 26 July 2022, from 10H00, at the Rustenburg Civic Centre. The meeting will be held in terms of Section 29A of the Local Government Municipal Structures Act, 117 of 1998 as amended. The meeting will be live streamed on Facebook for public viewing.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 26 JUL 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 26 JUL 2022 (06H45) Protest expected by members of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the Northern Cape on Friday, 29 July 2022, at the Office of the Premier in Kimberley. The union will be protesting against the poor working conditions of workers in the Northern Cape, which includes concerns over staff shortage, working hours and immediate employment. Cosatu Provincial Secretary Orapeleng Moraladi has added that the union also plans to stage sit-ins at shopping malls and farms in the province. Members of the public are advised to remain cautious. Police will be deployed to the scene.
• POSTMASBURG – 26 JUL 2022 (09H30) UPDATE The R325 Road in Postmasburg has been cleared. This comes as the Police have successfully intervened and are addressing the local transport operators against their grievances. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (07H15) Protest reported on the R325 in Postmasburg, near Postdene. Local transport organisations are protesting against the use of other transport companies. Police are on the scene and are attempting to resolve the issue. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 26 JUL 2022
• CAPE TOWN – 26 JUL 2022 (00H15) The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has recommended the suspension of the Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe to President Cyril Ramaphosa, pending a vote by the National Assembly on whether he should be impeached. The JSC stated that in terms of Section 20 (3) of the JSC’s Commission Act 9 of 1994 that Hlophe has been found guilty of gross misconduct by attempting to influence two Constitutional Court justices to rule in favour of the former President of South Africa (SA) Jacob Zuma in 2008.
• CAPE TOWN – 26 JUL 2022 (02H00) Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula is expected to visit the Cape Town Railway station today, 26 July 2022, at 08H30 for the reopening of railway lines. During his visit, Mbalula is expected to conduct a train ride from Cape Town to Bellville, visit land earmarked for the relocation of families from Central line 1 and conduct a community meeting with the families illegally occupying the railway network to discuss the relocation project.
• CAPE TOWN – 26 JUL 2022 (07H15) Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has announced plans to buy private power in a bid to end the ongoing disruption of power in South Africa. The extensive planning sessions are between the city, the private commercial consumers and the NGO green company, GreenCape. This comes after Hill-Lewis proposed a 10-point plan to end load-shedding that may resolve Cape Town and South Africa’s energy crisis. Hill-Lewis also added that more private power producers should work without delays, noting that power outages are a social-economic crisis. Hill-Lewis stated that in line with the plan, companies should implement an income tax write-off for capital investment into small-scale generation and battery storage projects, convert Eskom’s Ankerlig plant in Atlantis, Cape Town, to natural gas and operate the plant on a mid-merit basis, and establish a Power Crisis Unit in National Treasury with representation from municipalities and technical experts as well as the Finance Minister with the mandate of expediting all interventions that could end the power crisis.
