• RICHARDS BAY – 27 JUL 2022 (06H00) The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is expected to hold a ceremony at the Richards Bay High School today, 27 July 2022, from 09H00. The SANDF will participate in the Shared Accord Combined Multi-National Peace Support Operation and Humanitarian Relief Exercise. Authorities from the South African Police Service (SAPS), Disaster Management, Traffic Department and Fire Department are expected to attend the ceremony. During the event, a simulation exercise will be held, which will include demonstrations by an aircraft, paratroopers, and gunfire.
• GQEBERHA/ PORT ELIZABETH – 27 JUL 2022 (06H50) Protest reported by the Kleinskool community on old Uitenhage road. The members are expected to protest due to the area’s poor service delivery. Reports indicate that the protestors have barricaded the roads with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
• WALMER – 27 JUL 2022 (14H50) A heightened Police presence is reported in Airport Valley informal settlement near the Port Elizabeth International Airport in Walmer. This follows after two victims have been fatally shot on Tuesday night, 26 July 2022. The Police Spokesperson stated that one victim has been fatally shot outside his residence at approximately 22H00. Two of the victim’s relatives called for the Police when the suspects opened fire on them. One of the relatives has been fatally shot, and the other injured. The reason for the shooting is unknown at this stage. Police have launched a search operation for three suspects.

• BLOEMFONTEIN – 27 JUL 2022 (06H35) The Bloemfontein Magistrates Court has convicted Mpho Godfrey Selesho of defrauding the State of approximately R2 million. Selesho has been convicted of crimes that had been committed between 2014 and 2016 as a clerk at the South African Police Services (SAPS) provincial headquarters, Bloemfontein. The Court has provided Selesho with an eight-year imprisonment sentence for fraud. Additionally, Selesho has been ordered to pay back R2.4 million to the State, R500,000 immediately, with R53,000 monthly instalments from 01 August 2022.

• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 27 JUL 2022 (10H20) The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has confirmed the decrease in fuel prices in August 2022. The data from the Central Energy Fund shows a decrease in petrol by R1.19 and R1.22, Diesel by 80c and an unidentified decrease in paraffin. Additionally, the process of deregulating the price of petrol has commenced with consultations regarding a price cap for 93 Octane fuel. The Department noted that a formal announcement will be made by 29 July 2022.
• KEMPTON PARK – 27 JUL 2022 (11H10) The South African Heavy Haul Association (SAHHA) Conference will be held from 02 August 2022 until 04 August 2022 at the Emperors Palace. The event themed Safe, Resilient and Efficient Heavy Haul – Pit to Port will be hosted by SAHHA Chairman Briand Monakali. Additionally, John Woods, the Head of Planning and Scheduling, Aurizon Network, Australia, and the Chief Executive Officer of South African Association of Freight Forwards, Juanita Maree, will preside over the event as keynote speakers. During the event, members will discuss integrated rail planning and scheduling transformations, and methods to assist the exportation of materials.
• ALBERTON – 27 JUL 2022 (15H00) The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) is holding a rally at Alberton Campus related to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) national strike. South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary, Solly Mapaila, is addressing the SARS employees. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.
• JOHANNESBURG – 27 JUL 2022 (18H00) Protest reported outside the Expo Centre in Nasrec. The African National Congress (ANC) is expected to hold its Policy Conference at the Expo Centre from Thursday, 28 July, until Sunday, 31 July 20221. Members of the ANC are protesting due to the non-payment of salaries for three months. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.

• DURBAN – 27 JUL 2022 (03H20) Eskom announced the implementation of load reduction in several areas of KwaZulu Natal today, 27 July 2022, from 05H00 until 09H00. Eskom stated that the areas affected include Abaqulusi, Nqutu, Dannhauser, Emadlangeni, Newcastle, Impendile, uMgeni, Ladysmith, Indaka, Msinga, Msunduzi, Maphumulo, Ndwedwe, uMlathuze and uMshwathi. Eskom stated that the load reduction will be implemented during peak hours to prevent network overloading that can damage mini-substations in the areas.
• DURBAN – 27 JUL 2022 (07H35) UPDATE Police are on the scene and are attempting to disperse the crowd. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (05H40) Protest reported at the intersection of Quarry Road and O’Flaherty Road. Reports indicate that demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. The reason for the protest remains unknown. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the duration of the protest.
• BALLITO – 27 JUL 2022 (14H20) UPDATE The N2 southbound near King Shaka Airport remains closed to traffic due to an ongoing crime scene. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. A heavy traffic backlog is reported. The scene will remain active for approximately one hour. (08H10) Armed clashes reported on the N2 highway near King Shaka Airport. The incident occurred after six suspects allegedly fled a robbery incident, from Empangeni, in two vehicles. The clashes commenced as a private security company intercepted the getaway vehicles. Three suspects have been injured in the first vehicle, and three have been fatally injured in the second vehicle. Emergency services have been deployed to the area. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously due to the ongoing investigations of the scene.

• POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 26 JUL 2022 (08H00) The Democratic Alliance’s (DA’s) portfolio member for Water and Sanitation at the Polokwane Local Municipality, Johan Retters, has reported the untreated wastewater that is flowing from the Seshego Wastewater Plant in Blood River to the South African Human Rights Commission today, 26 July 2022. The malfunctioning treatment plant releases millions of litres of insufficiently treated wastewater daily into the Blood River that connects to the Sand River. Retters stated that this is a health risk to people and animals, and causes harm to the environment.
• THOHOYANDOU – 27 JUL 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by members of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in Limpopo at the Thohoyandou Magistrate court today, 27 July 2022, from 09H00. The union will be leading an Anti-Corruption picket calling for justice for the late Comrades Timson Musetsho and Ronald Mani. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police will be deployed to the scene.

• MBOMBELA/ NELSPRUIT – 27 JUL 2022 (16H00) UPDATE The Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court has postponed the murder case of Hillary Gardee to 08 August 2022. The demonstrators have dispersed. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (13H40) Protest reported at the Nelspruit Magistrate Court and the Nelspruit Police Station on Bester Street. Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are protesting against the two suspects’ bail application in the Hillary Gardee murder case. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police are on the scene.

• MAHIKENG – 27 JUL 2022 (08H20) The former Municipal Manager for Mahikengs Local Municipality, Thabo Mokoenas, Court hearing has been postponed until 06 September 2022 at the Molopo Regional Court. Mokoena is facing charges of contravening the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act. The charges followed due to the R92 million Mahikeng Municipality investment in the VBS Mutual Bank from August 2017 to December 2017. Additionally, Mokoena is alleged to have received credit facilities to purchase vehicles and a house for approximately R1.2 million. The Courts have extended Mokoena’s R50,000 bail application to his next Court appearance.

• SANTOY – 27 JUL 2022 (16H40) South32, mining company, announced that its South African manganese operations produced 2.07-million tonnes of ore for the financial year ended on 30 June 2022, a similar level to that produced in the 2021 financial year. The company stated that it produced higher volumes of premium material from its open-pit Mamatwan manganese mine, in the Northern Cape, in the year under review, which offset the impact of scheduled maintenance in the March quarter. A record 625,000 tonnes of ore was produced by the mine in June 2022, a 60% year-on-year increase.

• CAPE TOWN – 27 JUL 2022 (06H35) Protest reported on the N2 Outbound at Sir Lowrys Pass Road. Reports indicate that community members have blockaded the N2 with burning tyres and debris. This comes as the community is protesting over the lack of service delivery-related matters. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Related authorities are on the scene.
• CAPE TOWN – 27 JUL 2022 (13H30) UPDATE Stone-throwing reported on the M12 between Adam Tas Street and Symphony Way in Belhar. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police are on the scene. (05H35) Protest reported on the M12 in the vicinity of Belhar Fire Station, Cape Town. Reports indicate that demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. The reason for the protest remains unknown. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the duration of the protest.
• CAPE TOWN – 27 JUL 2022 (14H00) Peaceful protest reported outside the Cape Town Convention Centre by factions of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA). NUMSA expected to commence with its 11th National Congress today, 27 July 2022. The congress is part of NUMSA’s attempt to constitute the highest decision-making structure of the union, despite the interdict. NUMSA was interdicted from proceeding with the elective congress after suspended members successfully challenged the decision of the Central Committee at the Johannesburg Labour Court. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.

• KIMBERLEY: Protest expected by members of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the Northern Cape on Friday, 29 July 2022, at the Office of the Premier in Kimberley.
• BLOEMFONTEIN: The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to celebrate its 9th Anniversary on Saturday, 30 July 2022, at the Dr Molemela Stadium from 11H00. The EFF Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to address the EFF members during the celebration.
• CAPE TOWN: Protest expected in the City Centre of Cape Town on Thursday, 04 August 2022.
• POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG: Protest expected on Friday, 05 August 2022, by the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in Polokwane.
• SANDTON: Stay-away demonstration expected by E-Hailing operators in Gauteng on Monday, 08 August 2022.
