SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 04 AUG 2022

  • EAST LONDON – 04 AUG 2022 (07H35) The Buffalo City Municipality announced that several road closures will be implemented today in front of the International Convention Centre in East London. The Municipality stated that the road closures are due to the State of the City Address (SOCA), which the Executive Mayor Councillor Xola Pakati will present. The Municipality further noted that the Esplanade road between Inverleigh Terrace Road and Clifford Street will be closed for the duration of the meeting.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 04 AUG 2022

  • MARQUARD – 04 AUG 2022 (15H30) Six suspects arrested by the South African Police Services (SAPS) are expected to appear before the Marquard Magistrates courts on Friday, 05 August 2022. The SAPS arrested the suspects, in collaboration with private security officers and local farmers, following two intelligence-driven search operations in Marquard. The first suspect had been arrested on Wednesday, 03 August 2022, at about 03H00. Police confiscated eight stolen network batteries. Further, the Police arrested five additional suspects linked to the first suspect at 08H00 near a farm in Senekal. The suspects are facing charges of contravening the Immigration Act, possession of suspected stolen property and damage to infrastructure.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 04 AUG 2022

  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the Sunnyside Police Station today, 04 August 2022. Members of the African National Congress (ANC) are expected to march from Jubilee Park against the current increased rate of crime in the country and gender-based violence (GBV). The demonstrators are expected to gather at Jubilee Park from 10H00 to march to the Sunnyside Police Station. Affected routes include Jorissen Street and Leyds Street. Participants are set to disperse from the Sunnyside Police Station at 13H00. Tshwane Metro Police are expected to be deployed in the area to monitor the march and all affected streets. Motorists are advised to avoid affected routes and use alternative routes.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the Mamelodi West Police Station today, 04 August 2022, from 10H00. Members of the African National Congress (ANC) will be marching from Tsomo Street against mass killings, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), crime in communities and crime in general. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police will be dispatched to the scene.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected in Johannesburg Zone 1 by members of the African National Congress (ANC) Greater Johannesburg Region from 10H00 today, 04 August 2022. ANC members are expected to gather at the Orange Farm Multipurpose Centre from 10H00 to march to the Orange Farm Police Station. The march aims to protest against gender-based violence (GBV), violent crimes and killings. Motorists are advised to avoid affected areas and use alternative routes during the demonstration. Police will be deployed to monitor the protest.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected in Johannesburg Zone 4 by members of the African National Congress (ANC) Greater Johannesburg Region from 11H00 today, 04 August 2022. ANC members are expected to gather at the Elmond Malele Park in Protea North from 11H00 to march to the Protea Glen Police Station. The march aims to protest for peace and stability in the country and to denounce gender-based violence (GBV), violent crimes and killings. Motorists are advised to avoid affected areas and use alternative routes during the demonstration. Police will be deployed to monitor the protest.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected in Zone 15 of Johannesburg by members of the African National Congress (ANC) from 12H00 today, 04 August 2022. ANC Greater Johannesburg Region members are expected to gather at the Lord Khanyile Community Hall to march to the Ivory Park Police Station. The march aims to protest against the recent increased crime rate in the country, gender-based violence (GBV) and killings. Motorists are advised to avoid the streets affected by the march and use alternative routes during the demonstration. Police will be deployed to the area to monitor the protest.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by African National Congress (ANC) members today, 04 August 2022. The members will gather at the Westbury Recreation Centre from 11H00. The ANC members will march to the Sophiatown Police Station, protesting against gender-based violence (GBV), mass killings and other crimes. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the demonstrations. The South African Police Services (SAPS) has been notified of the event.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by members of the African National Congress (ANC) from 11H00 today, 04 August 2022. The members will gather at Extreme Park and march towards the Diepkloof Police Station, Johannesburg Zone 4. The members will be protesting against gender-based violence (GBV), mass killings and other crimes. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the demonstrations. The South African Police Services (SAPS) has been notified of the event.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected in Zone 8 of Johannesburg by members of the African National Congress (ANC) Greater Johannesburg Region from 11H00 today, 04 August 2022. ANC members are expected to gather at the Eskom Zola Office from 11H00 to march to the Jabulani Police Station. The march aims to protest against the recent increased crime rate in the country, gender-based violence (GBV) and killings. Motorists are advised to avoid affected areas and use alternative routes during the demonstration. Police will be deployed to the area to monitor the protest.

  • ENNERDALE – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by the African National Congress (ANC) today, 04 August 2022, at Zone 2, Johannesburg. The members will gather from 10H00 at the Ennerdale Spar, R558 and march to the Ennerdale Police Station. The members are protesting against gender-based violence (GBV), mass killings and other crimes. The South African Police Services (SAPS) have been notified of the protest. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
  • BRAKPAN – 04 AUG 2022 (08H35) Protest reported on the R23 in the vicinity of the Geluksdal and Tsakane area. Reports indicate that demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery in the area. Demonstrators barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) urged motorists to avoid the R23 and use alternative routes for the duration of the protest.
  • HAMMANSKRAAL – 04 AUG 2022 (11H45) UPDATE Reports indicate that the African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng Provincial Secretary Thembinkosi Nciza, National Spokesperson Pule Mabe, and members of the Tshwane Regional Leadership gathered at the Jubilee Mall. The group will march to the Temba Police Station to deliver a memorandum regarding crime and GBV in the region. (06H00) Peaceful protest expected at the Temba Police Station in Hamanskraal today, 04 August 2022. African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng Provincial Secretary Thembinkosi Nciza, National Spokesperson Pule Mabe, and members of the Tshwane Regional Leadership are expected to gather at the Jubilee Mall, Thomson Building, from 10H00 to march to the Temba Police Station. Participants are expected to deliver a memorandum regarding the increasing levels of crime and gender-based violence (GBV) in communities. Motorists are advised of possible ground travel disruptions expected in the area of the march. Police will be deployed in the area to monitor the situation.
  • KEMPTON PARK – 04 AUG 2022 (14H20) Road closure reported on Steel Road, Isando. The closure has followed due to a South African Breweries (SAB) truck accident in the area. Reports indicate that community members are lotting items from the truck. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. The South African Police Services (SAPS) are expected to deploy officers to monitor the situation.
  • KRUGERSDORP – 04 AUG 2022 (17H35) UPDATE Community members have been observed working in collaboration with the South African Police Services (SAPS) officers to apprehend additional Zama Zama miners. The SAPS officers have requested Community leaders to identify areas where the Zama Zamas have been active. The members are currently patrolling the West Rand mine dump areas. Reports indicate that the community have barricaded the Randfontein Road (R41), Adcock Street, and Chamdor roads with debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. (12H05) Clashes reported between the community members and South African Police Service(SAPS) officers. Reports indicate that the officers have fired rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators. Further, members have retaliated by throwing stones at the officers and chanting, Police Must Go. (11H05) Reports indicate that the demonstrators have set alight several informal settlement residences of the Zama Zama’s. The demonstrators also fatally injured one Zama Zama and allegedly captured five others. Members of the public are still advised to avoid the area as the demonstration is ongoing. (10H15) Reports indicate that the Zama Zama’s from Kagiso is currently evacuating the area towards Bastion High School. Bastion High School has been informed, and the learners and teachers are currently evacuating the school. Local authorities are on the scene to ensure the safety of the community. (07H15) Reports indicate that demonstrators have barricaded all roads entering the Kagiso community with burning tyres and debris. Police are currently on the scene monitoring the situation. (06H00) Protest expected at the Engen Garage on the corner of Kagiso Avenue and Sebenzisa Drive in Kagiso today, 04 August 2022. Community members are expected to protest for the removal of illegal miners. The community stated that they will close all mining holes and demolish all informal housing next to the mine. This follows after the criminal attack on female victims at a mine in West Village on Thursday, 28 July 2022. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during the protest. Police will be dispatched to the scene.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 04 AUG 2022

  • PIETERMARITZBURG – 04 AUG 2022 (16H20) The trial of alleged instigator Mdumiseni Zuma has been postponed to 01 September 2022 at the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court. The postponement followed after Zuma’s attorney announced that he had not been prepared to proceed. Zuma has been taken to court due to allegedly instigating looting activities and civil unrest in KwaZulu-Natal in 2021. Additionally, Zuma is facing charges linked with burning the Brookside Mall.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 04 AUG 2022

  • POLOKWANE – 04 AUG 2022 (06H55) Protest expected at the Seshego Magistrates Court today, 04 August 2022, at 09H00. Reports indicate that members of the Lentswe Laka Foundation and Seshego Community Against Crime and Gangsterism (SCAGAG) demand that the court denies bail to Solly Galane, who has been accused of killing his spouse Phuti Mamabolo on 25 June 2022.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 04 AUG 2022

  • EMALAHLENI/ WITBANK – 04 AUG 2022 (04H20) Protest reported on the R544 approaching the N12 intersection in Tasbet Park, eMalahleni. Community members are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstration is a continuation of calls by the eMalahleni Civic Organisation (ECO) to shut down the Witbank area in protest against the eMalahleni Municipality’s use of Johan Coetzee Attorneys as their debt collector. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Authorities have been dispatched to the scene.
  • BABERTON – 04 AUG 2022 (10H40) UPDATE Reports indicate that the demonstrators have dispersed from the area. The roads to Stimela, Pick n Pay and the central business district has been opened. However, Motorists are advised to remain vigilant as there is rubbish on the roads. (09H55) Protest reported in General Stree. Reports indicate that demonstrators have barricaded General Street with burning tyres and debris. The reason for the protest remains unknown, although previous demonstrations were related to poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes for the duration of the protest
  • BETHAL – 04 AUG 2022 (12H50) Protest reported on the N17/R35 in front of the Bethal Police Station. Reports indicate that taxi owners barricaded the road with their vehicles. Reasons for the protest remain unknown. Local authorities are currently on the scene monitoring the situation.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 04 AUG 2022

  • POTCHEFSTROOM – 04 AUG 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the Dan Tloome Building today, 04 August 2022. Community members under the Potch Mass Empowerment Movement (PMEM) are expected to gather at the corner of Bathoeng Street and Lekhele Street at 06H00 to march via the N12 to the Dan Tloome Building in Potchefstroom. Affected routes are expected to include the N12, Beyers Naude Drive and Wolmarans Street. Community members are expected to protest against the JB Marks Municipality’s failure to appoint Ikageng residents. Motorists are advised to use alternative areas during the protest action and void affected routes. Police will be dispatched to monitor the protest.
  • ORKNEY – 04 AUG 2022 (10H25) Protest reported on Milton avenue in front of the local Police station. The reason for the protest by pupils is due to the arrest of a fellow pupil who took an airsoft firearm to school. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Local authorities are on the scene to monitor the situation.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 04 AUG 2022

  • MANYEDING – 04 AUG 2022 (07H50) Protest reported on the R372 in the vicinity of the Manyeding informal settlement. Reports indicate that demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. The is no reason for the demonstration, but previous demonstrations were related to service delivery. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police are currently on the scene to monitor the situation.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 04 AUG 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 04 AUG 2022 (14H25) UPDATE Cosatu members have delivered their Memorandum of Demands to Police Minister Bheki Cele. This follows after Cosatu members provided the Western Cape Government with 48 hours to respond to their grievances. Minister Cele has noted that the South African Police Services (SAPS) have deployed officers to the high crime rate areas. (12H25) COSATU has demanded to be addressed by the Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, and also to provide temporary solutions to the challenges faced by the communities. (11H35) Reports indicate that the group of demonstrators from COSATU has arrived at the Cape Town Civic Centre, where they will be handing over a memorandum of demands regarding community safety to the law enforcement agency. (06H00) Demonstrators have started to assemble at Hanover Street in Cape Town for the planned protest. (06H00) Protest expected in the City Centre of Cape Town today, 04 August 2022. Members of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in Western Cape have called on workers to mobilize in the #FightBack campaign against the high cost of living, such as electricity rates and violence in Cape Town. Demonstrators will be expected to gather on Hanover Street in Cape Town City Centre at 08H00 and proceed to the Western Cape Provincial Legislature Office and Civic Centre City of Cape Town.
