SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – CAPE TOWN – 24 MAY 2022 (19H45)
The main opposition parties are expected to hold discussions at Parliament on Wednesday, 25 May 2022, regarding a national coalition government in South Africa after the 2024 elections. The discussions will be held in Parliament before requesting Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to schedule a special debate on the findings of Justice Raymond Zondo’s commission on state capture. Opposition parties argue that Parliament should not have to wait for the African National Congress (ANC) to set the timetable for a substantive debate on the commission’s findings. The ANC has several times postponed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s formal response to Zondo’s findings and his announcement of an implementation plan. Zondo is expected to deliver the fourth and final report is 15 June 2022. Ramaphosa will then have four months to draft a plan.
