• BHISHO – 31 MAY 2022 (21H00) The Nelson Mandela Funeral fraud case has been postponed to August 2022. The postponement is due to the accused, Phumlani Mkolo, who is approaching the Constitutional Court after the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed his petition for leave to appeal the decision by the High Court in Bhisho to dismiss his application for the Judge in the matter to recuse herself. Mkolo and 11 others have appeared in Court today, 31 May 2022, standing accused of being part of the alleged embezzlement of R10-million from the Buffalo City Metropolitan during the memorial and funeral of former President Nelson Mandela in 2013. Mkolo stated that he will not have a fair trial if the presiding Judge did not recuse herself.
• HANKEY – 01 JUN 2022 (07H45) Protest reported on the R330 between Hankey and Patensie. The demonstrators are protesting to demand Sotho nationals to leave the area. • THEUNISSEN – 31 MAY 2022 (19H30) The Masilonyana Local Municipality has reportedly failed to pay workers as per their contractual obligation on 28 May 2022. Municipal Spokesperson, Zongezile Ntjwabule, stated that the municipality did communicate the matter with all the employees. Ntjwabule stated that the municipality and the Municipal Manager have embarked on a plan to raise money by engaging different Free State Departments, with the aim of paying workers. Consumers who fail to pay for the services rendered by the municipality have exacerbated the matter, and as a result, revenue collection is negatively affected.
• WELKOM – 31 MAY 2022 (20H00) Protest reported on Stateway Road at the Matjhabeng Municipality building in Welkom. Community members are protesting due to poor service delivery regarding electricity supply. Demonstrators are barricading the road burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
• WELKOM – 01 JUN 2022 (09H40) Protest reported on Stateway Road in the vicinity of Matjhabeng Municipality. Residents of Bedelia are protesting due to poor service delivery. SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 01 JUN 2022
• KEMPTON PARK – 31 MAY 2022 (23H45) Comair Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Glenn Orsmond has announced the suspension of British Airways and Kulula national flights. Orsmond stated that flights are suspended due to insufficient funding from airlines. Orsmond further stated that Comair is busy negotiating additional funding from private investors to ensure the resumption of operations. Orsmond further stated that the commencement of flights is expected to resume in due course, and updates will be provided on the progress made by the Comair Board.
• JOHANNESBURG – 01 JUN 2022 (04H45) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are expected to picket at 09H00 today, 01 June 2022, at the Tembisa Police Station. Reports indicate that the assembly point for demonstrators is expected to be assembling at the Makhulong Stadium. EFF stated that the picket is in support of Mashudu Mathiba, who was killed on 14 May 2022. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and remain vigilant on the road.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 01 JUN 2022 (06H05) Road closures expected today, 01 June 2022, ahead of the Mamelodi Sundowns FC’s victory parade in different areas of Tshwane. The parade is expected to begin from 06H30 until 16H00. The following areas will be affected, Mamelodi East, Mamelodi West, Mamelodi far East, Eersterust, Silverton, Hatfield, Lotus Gardens, Saulsville, Atteridgeville, Soshanguve, Mabopane, Hammanskraal, Ga-Rankuwa, Mmakau, Winterveld, Pretoria Central Business District (CBD). The parade is expected to end at Church Square. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• TEMBISA – 01 JUN 2022 (07H20) Protest reported on Mooderfontein Road and Pretoria Road. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 01 JUN 2022
• PIETERMARITZBURG – 31 MAY 2022 (20H15) Former President Jacob Zuma and the Department of Correctional Services are yet to file their heads of arguments in the Supreme Court of Appeal. Zuma and the department have until 15H00 on Wednesday, 01 June 2022, to file their papers. The parties are appealing the High Court judgment, which ordered that Zuma’s release on medical parole was unlawful and irrational. In June 2021, Zuma was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment by the Constitutional Court for contempt of Court after he breached its earlier order to abide by the State Capture Commission’s summons to appear before it. However, former Correctional Services Commissioner Arthur Fraser released him on medical parole in less than two months, against the recommendation of the Medical Parole Advisory Board.
• TONGAAT – 01 JUN 2022 (05H35) Protest reported at Brake Village. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to water outages. • CAPE TOWN – 31 MAY 2022 (18H00) UPDATE Community members are protesting due to a Tafelsig High School learner who refused to be transported by unrecognised taxi operators. This follows after three victims have been attacked and one of them killed by community members this morning, 31 May 2022, for allegedly kidnapping children in Parktown. The situation remains volatile. (17H45) Unrest reported on AZ Berman Drive near the Tafelsig High School in Tafelsig. Residents are throwing stones at Police officers. Police are attempting to disperse demonstrators with rubber bullets. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
