SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 01 JUN 2022
• HANKEY – 01 JUN 2022 (07H45) Protest reported on the R330 between Hankey and Patensie. The demonstrators are protesting to demand Sotho nationals to leave the area. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• LUSIKISIKI – 01 JUN 2022 (18H00) Residents and motorists at Lusikisiki are demanding an urgent intervention from the Ingquza Hill Local Municipality to address the poor road infrastructure in the rural town. The residents are accusing the Municipality of failing to maintain roads in both of its towns, Lusikisiki and Flagstaff. The R61 from Port St Johns to Bizana passes through the tourist destination. Business owners stated that the poor road conditions are affecting development in the area.

• WELKOM – 01 JUN 2022 (09H40) Protest reported on Stateway Road in the vicinity of Matjhabeng Municipality. Residents of Bedelia are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the area with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• WELKOM – 01 JUN 2022 (16H00) Police have launched a search operation for suspects involved in cable theft at an Eskom office on Blenheim Avenue in Riebeeckstad. The theft occurred on Friday, 27 May 2022, at approximately 22H10. The Security Officer was accosted by a group of armed men during routine foot patrols. The Security Officer later managed to call the Welkom Police. A case of business robbery was registered for further investigation.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 01 JUN 2022
• JOHANNESBURG – 01 JUN 2022 (04H45) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are expected to picket at 09H00 today, 01 June 2022, at the Tembisa Police Station. Demonstrators are expected to gather at the Makhulong Stadium. EFF stated that the picket is in support of Mashudu Mathiba, who was killed on 14 May 2022. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and remain vigilant on the road.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 01 JUN 2022 (06H05) Road closures expected today, 01 June 2022, ahead of the Mamelodi Sundowns FC’s victory parade in different areas of Tshwane. The parade is expected to begin from 06H30 until 16H00. The following areas will be affected, Mamelodi East, Mamelodi West, Mamelodi far East, Eersterust, Silverton, Hatfield, Lotus Gardens, Saulsville, Atteridgeville, Soshanguve, Mabopane, Hammanskraal, Ga-Rankuwa, Mmakau, Winterveld, Pretoria Central Business District (CBD). The parade is expected to end at Church Square. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• TEMBISA – 01 JUN 2022 (07H20) Protest reported on Mooderfontein Road and Pretoria Road. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched. (06H10) Protest reported at the intersection of M57 and Link Road. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to power outages. • MIDRAND – 01 JUN 2022 (12H40) Protest expected by the members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on Saturday, 04 June 2022, at the Ivory Park Fire Station. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Swazi Inn in the vicinity of the Pick n Pay store from 07H00 and march to the Fire Station. The EFF members are expected to protest against a dysfunctional fire station and hand over a memorandum of demands. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• JOHANNESBURG – 01 JUN 2022 (14H50) The AmaMpondo Kingdom announced the passing of King Zanozuko Sigcau on Tuesday, 31 May 2022. The King had been hospitalised since March 2022 at the St Augustine Hospital in Durban. The King died on his way to the Wits Donald Gordon Medical for liver treatment. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
• SOWETO – 01 JUN 2022 (15H50) The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and Red Ants Security have conducted an illegal land invasion operation in Protea South, Soweto. The officials removed and demolished eight unoccupied galvanised zinc sheet structures. Motorists are advised to be vigilant in the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 01 JUN 2022
• TONGAAT – 01 JUN 2022 (10H15) UPDATE Police have dispersed demonstrations. This follows after the Councillor Dolly Munien addressed the residents. The Watson Highway towards the N2 has been reopened for traffic flow. The situation remains volatile. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (05H35) Protest reported at Brake Village. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to water outages. The demonstrators have barricaded Watson Highway, the R102 and N2 towards Ballito with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. • PIETERMARITZBURG – 01 JUN 2022 (16H30) UPDATE Operation Dudula members have apprehended a woman with an allegedly counterfeit Identification Document (ID). The woman has been handed over to the Police. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (14H00) Protest reported on the corner of Church Street and Boshoff Street in the Central Business District by Operation Dudula members. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Historically, Operation Dudula members protest against illegal foreign national and narcotic trading.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 01 JUN 2022
• PIETERSBURG/ POLOKWANE – 01 JUN 2022 (06H50) The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo is expected to hold its 10th ANC Provincial Conference on Friday, 03 June 2022, at the Polokwane Ranch Resort.
• LEBOWAKGOMO – 01 JUN 2022 (12H20) Protest reported outside the Limpopo Legislature. Former employees of the Great North Transport are protesting to demand their pension fund. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demands to the Speaker of the Legislature, Rosemary Molepo, to hold the government to account for the R300 million pension fund that has been allegedly misused. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the building. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant. Police are on the scene.
• GIYANI – 01 JUN 2022 (15H45) Eskom’s Customer Relations Manager in Mopani, Thomas Ceko, stated that areas in Giyani are experiencing 5-hour load reductions due to high losses in feeders caused by illegal connections. This follows after the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) called on the Department of Health in Limpopo to engage the Greater Giyani Municipality following the electricity load reduction schedule affecting Khensani Hospital. Ceko stated that Eskom is working on finding ways to exclude hospitals from load reduction.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 01 JUN 2022
• WHITE RIVER – 01 JUN 2022 (11H20) UPDATE Police have dispersed demonstrations on the R538 towards Hillsview. Motorists are advised to be cautious. Police are monitoring the area. (07H15) Protest reported on the R538. The demonstrators have obstructed the road with a truck and debris. Previous demonstrations have been related to poor service delivery and a high crime rate. • DELMAS – 01 JUN 2022 (13H45) Eskom announced that it has handed over Unit 4 of the Kusile Power Station Project to the generation division to formally be part of the Eskom commercial fleet. This is part of Eskom’s efforts to stabilise the power system by adding 800 megawatts (MW) to the country’s power system. The unit was connected to the national grid for the first time on 23 December 2021. Four out of six generation units have been completed for the Kusile Power Station Project. At completion, the station will consist of six units and will provide a maximum of 4,800MW.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 01 JUN 2022
• CAPE TOWN – 01 JUN 2022 (16H25) Protest expected at Manenberg Police Station on Saturday, 04 June 2022, at 10H00. Demonstrators will be demanding Police intervention against the increase in gang violence in the area. A motorcade will be moving from various areas towards Manenberg. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during the protest. Police will be deployed to monitor the motorcade.
• CAPE TOWN – 01 JUN 2022 (17H00) Eskom announced that the Eerste River area will be without electricity for an indefinite period after a cable in the area was damaged on Tuesday, 31 May 2022. The cable was damaged by construction workers conducting roadworks in the area. Eskom technicians are on-site doing repairs. More than 2000 residents are affected by the power outage.
