• HANKEY – 01 JUN 2022 (19H35) Protest reported on the R330 between Hankey and Patensie. The demonstrators are protesting to demand Sotho nationals to leave the area. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

• WELKOM – 02 JUN 2022 (07H10) The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, is expected to meet with the Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng municipality, Thanduxolo Khalipha, Members of the Mayoral Committee and Councillors, the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) and MEC for Human Settlements today, 02 June 2022, at the Matjhabeng Municipal offices from 09H00 until 15H00. The minister is expected to follow up on commitments made on the water and sanitation issues within the Matjhabeng municipality.

• JOHANNESBURG – 01 JUN 2022 (20H00) Former State Security Agency (SSA) Director-General Arthur Fraser has opened a criminal case against President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Rosebank Police Station. The complaint relates to the alleged theft of US$4-million concealed at Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in Waterberg, by criminals who were colluding with a domestic worker. Fraser alleged he had provided Police with evidence showing Ramaphosa concealed the crime and that the suspects had been kidnapped and interrogated. The burglary allegedly took place on 09 February 2020.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 01 JUN 2022 (20H40) Nationwide shutdown expected on Friday, 10 June 2022. Community leaders are expected to protest against the increase in fuel prices that have a negative effect on living costs. Historically, shutdowns target national routes, government buildings, schools and workplaces. The public is advised to be vigilant during the nationwide shutdown. Police will be deployed according to the affected areas.
• SOWETO – 01 JUN 2022 (20H50) Protest reported on the R553 in the vicinity of Nancefield and Eldorado Park substations. Residents are protesting due to poor service delivery regarding electricity supply. Demonstrators are barricading roads with burning tyres. There is currently a power outage due to a fault in the area. Demonstrators are preventing City Power technicians from accessing the substations. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area.
• JOHANNESBURG – 01 JUN 2022 (23H10) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the workers of Marikana tomorrow, 2 June 2022, at the Johannesburg High Court. The EFF stated that a civil case for damages against President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Sibanye Stilwater Mining Company is expected to commence tomorrow. The demonstrators are protesting due to not being compensated fully after the Marikana protest ten years ago when workers were retrenched. A heightened police presence is expected, and therefore, motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
• KATLEHONG – 02 JUN 2022 (04H10) Explosion reported at a BP garage in Stand, Katlehong area. Reports indicate that an unknown armed group bombed the ABSA and Nedbank automated teller machines (ATM). Reports further indicate that the group left the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. The registration of the vehicle remains unknown.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 02 JUN 2022
• MBAZWANA – 01 JUN 2022 (20H15) Residents have raised concerns at the Mntanenkosi Village in Mbazwana after the body of 13-year-old Thobani Khambule was found. The residents have disrupted a community engagement meeting aimed at calming down the situation after the murder. Residents have barricaded a road with debris, blocking the Police and local traditional leaders from leaving the area. Residents are threatening to take the law into their own hands. A bush knife believed to have been used to commit the crime was also found by Police. Police are investigating the matter.
• MABHOKWENI – 02 JUN 2022 (06H00) Protest reported on the R66 between Eshowe and KwaGingindlovu. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have obstructed the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched.
• TONGAAT – 02 JUN 2022 (07H50) The Executive Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Mxolisi Kaunda, is expected to visit Tongaat today, 02 June 2022, to discuss rebuilding efforts with the community. This follows after the residents held a protest on Wednesday, 01 June 2022, due to poor service delivery related to water outages.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 02 JUN 2022
• HOEDSPRUIT – 02 JUN 2022 (08H30) The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Maruleng announced that it will submit a motion in the next council sitting to request to convene a debate on the failure to permanently appoint senior managers or fill some senior management vacancies in the Maruleng Municipality. DA Councillor in Maruleng Local Municipality, Portia Moropane, stated that the inability to appoint permanent senior management has led to instability in the running of the municipality. Moropane added that the failure to fill vacancies in key municipality departments has resulted in the loss of technical skills and has seen service delivery and the municipality’s finances negatively affected.

• BARBERTON – 02 JUN 2022 (09H25) Protest reported on the R38 towards Fairview Mine. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery and issues related to employment. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Shots are being fired in an attempt to disperse the demonstrators. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• NELSPRUIT/MBOMBELA – 02 JUN 2022 (09H50) UPDATE Demonstrations reported outside the Magistrate Court. The demonstrators have blockaded the area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene. (08H50) Protest expected by the members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) today, 02 June 2022, at the Nelspruit Magistrate Court from 09H00. The EFF members are expected to demand justice for Hillary Gardee. The Nelspruit Magistrates Court is expected to hear the bail application of one of the accused in the Hillary Gardee murder case. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

• MAHIKENG – 01 JUN 2022 (20H20) Protest reported on R49 between Mahikeng and Zeerust. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • WARRENTON – 02 JUN 2022 (08H10) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on the N18 in the vicinity of the Caltex filling station and the N12 in the vicinity of the Phumla filling station. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched. (06H20) Protest expected in Warrenton on Thursday, 02 June 202, by community members. Taxi operations will be shut down during the protest. Roads in and around Warrenton will be closed to traffic. Demonstrators will be protesting against the poor road infrastructure and for wage benefits. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during the protest. Police will be deployed.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 02 JUN 2022
• HERMANUS – 01 JUN 2022 (20H30) Business robbery reported at Spar Gateway in Hermanus. Reports indicate that three armed suspects entered the premises and held employees at gunpoint while taking several items and an undisclosed amount of money. The Slovo Tactical Response Unit stated that upon arrival, the suspects had already fled the scene. An alert has been issued for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
