SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 03 FEB 2022.

  • CRADOCK – 02 FEB 2022 (19H00) Chemical spill reported on the N10 between Cradock and Middelburg. Motorists are advised to be vigilant or use alternative routes. Traffic delays are expected.
  • EAST LONDON – 03 FEB 2022 (07H30) Protest expected by the members of The Green Connection on Sunday, 06 February 2022 from 10H00 at Nahoon Corner. The demonstrators are expected to protest against Shell’s seismic survey along the Wild Coast. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant. Police are aware of the protest.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 03 FEB 2022

  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 02 FEB 2022 (19H45) Suspended African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Ace Magashule stated that he will appeal the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) decision to have his party suspension overturned. This follows after the SCA dismissed Magashule’s appeal of a judgment that declared his suspension from the party lawful.
  • ZASTRON – 03 FEB 2022 (08H20) Centlec power utility has called an urgent meeting with officials of Mohokahare local municipality following allegations of poor service delivery due to dilapidated infrastructure. Centlec spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, stated that the meeting will be held to ensure that a sustainable solution to service delivery challenges is identified.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 03 FEB 2022

  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 02 FEB 2022 (19H30) The Office of the Public Protector has defended the appointment of former South African Revenue Service (SARS) official Luther Lebelo as Chief of Staff and Head of Communications. Lebelo was appointed in December 2021, and the Public Protector stated that it continues to receive questions over Lebelo’s appointment. Lebelo was involved in the suspensions of senior officials who were part of an alleged list of officials that were targeted for removal and tried without success.
  • ASPEN LAKES – 03 FEB 2022 (02H35) Road closure reported at the corner Swartkoppies road and Kliprivier drive near Mall of the South, Johannesburg. The road has been closed due to a tanker that has overturned and exploded. Recovery is in progress.
  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 03 FEB 2022 (06H00) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to undertake a working visit to the Republic of Mozambique today, 03 February 2022, at the invitation of President Filipe Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique. Ramaphosa will participate in the 53rd Commemoration of the assassination of Eduardo Mondlane, the founder and first President of the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO). Ramaphosa will also visit military troops that are part of the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM). The President will undertake this visit in his capacity as Chair of the South African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. President Ramaphosa will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Candith Mashego-Dlamini, and Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thabang Makwetla.
  • CENTURION – 03 FEB 2022 (09H30) Protest reported on Venturi Crescent in Hennopspark. The demonstrators have blockaded the road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 03 FEB 2022

  • DURBAN – 02 FEB 2022 (19H15) By-election voting has begun in parts of KwaZulu-Natal following the death and resignation of some councillors. Voting is taking place in eThekwini, Okhahlamba and Nongoma municipalities in the province. Last year, the African National Congress (ANC) won ward 101 in Durban. However, their candidate at the time, Siyabonga Mkhize, had been killed. The ANC’s new candidate is Mzimuni Ngiba.
  • VERULAM – 02 FEB 2022 (22H00) A taxi owner has been shot and killed by unknown suspects in Verulam today, 02 February 2022. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) stated that they accepted a call from a Police officer who had been off duty in a request for assistance, and on arrival, the victim was found to have sustained wounds in the head. A pistol belonging to the deceased has been located in the vehicle.
  • UMLAZI – 03 FEB 2022 (07H40) Protest reported on the M30 between Umlazi and Isipingo. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • MANDINI – 03 FEB 2022 (08H50) Protest reported on R102. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The situation is volatile. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 03 FEB 2022

  • POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 02 FEB 2022 (20H30) The African National Congress (ANC) Women’s League Young Women’s Desk in Limpopo stated that it welcomes the ANC National Executive Committee’s (NEC) resolutions on disputes around ANC mayoral candidates in some of the local and district municipalities in the province. The ANC NEC affected these changes in the Sekhukhune district municipality, Ephraim Mogale, Maruleng and Lephalale local municipalities following disputes on the mayoral candidates that have been raised after the local government elections in November 2021. The NEC has further directed that there be a re-run of selection processes for mayoral positions in the Vhembe District Municipality and Makhado Local Municipality.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 03 FEB 2022

  • SABIE – 02 FEB 2022 (20H00) Police have launched a search operation for three suspects who broke into a house in Sabie on Tuesday, 01 February 2022. The suspects held up the occupants at gunpoint and demanded the key to their vehicle and 13 chainsaws stored on the property. The suspects fled the scene in the vehicle that was found abandoned later. Police are investigating the matter.
  • WITBANK/EMALAHLENI– 03 FEB 2022 (06H30) Protest reported on the R544 and R575 towards Old Bethal Road at Duvha Power Station. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 03 FEB 2022

  • ITSOSENG – 03 FEB 2022 (09H20) The Itsoseng Regional Court has postponed the case of four suspects and one minor accused of murder to Friday, 18 February 2022, for bail judgement. The suspects have been arrested for killing two Police officers in Mareetsane with their remains discovered at the back of a State vehicle on Tuesday, 27 July 2021, in Ganyesa.

  • KATHU – 03 FEB 2022 UPDATE (07H10) Stone-throwing reported. Motorists are advised to avoid Hendrick Van Eck Road and Ian Fleming Street. (06H20) Protest reported on the R380 near Kathu Village Mall towards Sishen Mine. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 03 FEB 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 03 FEB 2022 (07H00) Protest expected by the members of The Green Connection on Sunday, 06 February 2022 from 10H00 at Muizenburg Beach. The demonstrators are expected to protest against Shell’s seismic survey along the Wild Coast. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 12H00. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant. Police are aware of the protest.
  • CAPE TOWN – 03 FEB 2022 (09H00) UPDATE Road closure reported on Potsdam Road due to CIT robbery. One injury has been reported. Explosive devices have been found. (08H10) Cash in Transit (CIT) robbery in progress reported on Potsdam Road in near Shoprite Store in Du Noon. Reported indicated that unidentified suspects have bombed an armoured vehicle. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
