  • PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 03 MAR 2022 (07H45) The African National Congress (ANC) has disbanded the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) following its term that expired in October 2021. The ANC Provincial Secretary, Lulama Ngcukayitobi, stated that the PEC is expected to take over as the Provincial Task Team with the ANC Chairperson, Oscar Mabuyane, as the convener and Ngcukayitobi as the PTT co-ordinator. The province’s elective conference is scheduled to be held at the end of March 2022.
  • PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 03 MAR 2022 (17H15) UPDATE Students are protesting due to a delay in registration for classes as registration is expected to close on Friday, 04 March 2022. However, NMMU Spokesperson Zandi Mbabela stated that registration has been extended at the request of the Student Representative Council. Police are on the scene monitoring the situation. (14H30) Protest reported at the Nelson Mandela Bay University (NMMU) North Campus on University Way and Gomery Road. Students are protesting due to academic-related challenges.   • GARIEPDAM, – 03 MAR 2022 (08H40) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Finance, Gadija Brown, is expected to table out the Provincial Budget Speech for 2022/23 on Thursday, 10 March 2022, from 14H00 at the Gariep Dam.
  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 03 MAR 2022 (17H05) The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has issued a level-2 weather warning for adverse thunderstorms expected today, 03 March 2022 and Friday, 04 March 2022. Localised flash floods can be expected in low-lying areas, roads, and informal settlements. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.

  • VOSLOORUS – 03 MAR 2022 (10H15) Cash in Transit (CIT) robbery reported on Umhlaba Street in Vosloorus Ext 8. Reports indicate the unidentified suspects have robbed an armoured vehicle of an undisclosed amount of money. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 03 MAR 2022 (10H30) Cash in Transit (CIT) robbery reported on Jasmyn Avenue in Silverton. Reports indicate that unidentified suspects have robbed an armoured vehicle of an undisclosed amount of money. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • SPRINGS – 03 MAR 2022 (10H35) Protest reported on Ramona Road in the vicinity of Selcourt Towers. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 03 MAR 2022 (10H55) Protest expected by the Public Servants Association of South Africa (PSA) members under the South African Police Service (SAPS) today, 03 March 2022, at the SAPS Head office. The demonstrators are expected to gather from 11H00 at Prince’s Park Avenue and march to the head office. The demonstrators will be protesting against unfair labour practices and recent attacks on SAPS officers. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 14H00. The following routes will be affected, Prince’s Park Avenue, Kgosi Mampuru Street, Sophie de Bruyn Street, Bosman Street, Paul Kruger Street, Thabo Sehume Street. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 03 MAR 2022 (12H00) UPDATE The demonstrators are marching on the corner of King’s Highway and Elizabeth Grove. (11H30) The demonstrators have started gathering on the corner of Duxbury Road and Lynnwood Road. (06H15) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the Congress of the South African Trade Union (COSATU) today, 03 March 2022, at the Israel Embassy from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to march to the embassy in solidarity with the Palestinians. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 03 MAR 2022 (12H10) Protest reported at the intersection of Main Road and 2nd Avenue in Melville. The demonstrators are protesting due to labour-related matters. The demonstrators have barricaded the roads. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 03 MAR 2022 (12H35) UPDATE Students have handed over a memorandum of demands to the Senior Director of Student Relations, Godfrey Helani.  (11H40) Protest reported on Kingway Avenue in the vicinity of the University of Johannesburg (UJ). Students are protesting against mandatory vaccination. The demonstrators have barricaded the road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 03 MAR 2022 (14H00) The City of Tshwane announced that driving licensing testing centres (DLTCs) and motor vehicle registration offices remain closed due to the ongoing strike by the National Driving School Association of South Africa (NDSASA). Members of NDSASA have been protesting at various licensing centres throughout Gauteng since 24 February 2022, demanding that the online National Traffic Information Systems (NaTIS) be cancelled. The City is in the process of applying for a court interdict against the protesting NDSASA members to stop them from disrupting City operations. The DLTCs affected include Mabopane and Akasia, Temba, Centurion, Rayton, Waltloo and Bronkhorstspruit.
  • SOWETO – 03 MAR 2022 (15H15) UPDATE Senaoane residents have been protesting as it is the third year they are without electricity. Eskom stated that a new transformer will be installed in the area on 10 March 2022. (14H50) Demonstrators have dispersed on Koma Road/ M72 in Senaoane. The road is open to traffic. The roadway is covered in debris. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation.  (07H30) Road closure reported on Koma Street/M72 due to ongoing protest. (06H50) Protest reported on Koma Street/M72. Residents of Senaoane are protesting due to service delivery related to power outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 03 MAR 2022 (15H45) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold an EFF Red Friday and 1-Million Member Recruitment Drive at Atteridgeville Community Hall on Friday, 04 March 2022, at 11H00. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the event.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 03 MAR 2022 (16H30) UPDATE Tshwane Mayor Randall Williams has launched the Wapadrand substation today, 03 March 2022. This follows after the Wapadrand substation has been prone to fire and breakdowns leaving residents in the local area without electricity. Over R134-million has been spent to complete the refurbishment project. (09H25) The City of Tshwane Executive Mayor, Randall Williams, is expected to launch the Wapadrand Substation refurbishment project today, 03 March 2022, from 09H30 until 12H00 at the Wapadrand Substation.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 03 MAR 2022

  • HOWICK – 03 MAR 2022 (13H05) The South African National Roads Agency has issued a notice of a full road closure on the N3 in Howick and Lions River on Monday, 07 March until Wednesday, 09 March 2022 from 10H00 until 12H00 and 14H00 until 16H00. The road closures are part of the N2/N3 freeway upgrade programme. The routes that will be affected include the Northbound Howick/Midmar interchange towards Johannesburg and the Southbound Nottingham interchange when travelling towards Durban or Pietermaritzburg.
  • DURBAN – 03 MAR 2022 (14H20) The eThekweni region Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called for the immediate suspension of the Grosvenor High School Principal and a teacher. Learners have been protesting due to the alleged racially insensitive comments made by the Principal and teacher. The learners have written a petition to the school raising their concerns. The EFF is expected to open a case of racism against the Principal and teacher, as well as report the incident to the Human Rights Commission. The EFF has given the Grosvenor High School until Friday, 04 March 2022, to suspend the Principal and teacher.
  • KWAMASHU – 03 MAR 2022 (14H00) Armed robbery reported at Duffs Road Primary School in Durban North. Five suspects approached the school, posing as parents wanting a transfer. The suspects entered the foyer of the Principal’s office and drew firearms. The suspects held teachers hostage that was signing out. The suspects only stole cell phones. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are investigating the matter.
  • DURBAN – 03 MAR 2022 (17H30) Road closure reported on the N2 near the Kwa-Mashu Highway interchange. The road is closed due to a motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Expect heavy traffic delays. Emergency services are on the scene. Recovery is in progress.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 03 MAR 2022

  • POLOKWANE/PIETERSBURG – 03 MAR 2022 (06H00) Deputy President David Mabuza is expected to respond to issues raised by traditional leaders today, 03 March 2022, at Bolivia Lodge from 13H30. President Cyril Ramaphosa established the Task Team to ensure that the Government is responsive to traditional leaders’ concerns. The Deputy President will be accompanied by Chupu Mathabatha, Premier of the Limpopo Province and relevant members of the Provincial Executive Council.
  • PHALABORWA – 03 MAR 2022 (17H00) Ten alleged illegal gold miners have appeared in the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court today, 03 March 2022. The accused have been found in possession of raw gold, four vehicles and mining equipment valued at more than R1.1-million. The accused will remain in custody. The court case is postponed to Thursday, 08 March 2022, for a formal bail application.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 03 MAR 2022

  • ARTHUR’S SEAT – 03 MAR 2022 (16H20) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed on the R40 in Arthur’s Seat towards BestDrive.   • MBOMBELA/ NELSPRUIT – 03 MAR 2022 (16H45) The Mpumalanga Human Settlements Department is expected to start its R326-million housing project. Human Settlements Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi announced, during the State of the Nation Address (SOPA), six social housing projects to be implemented in the 2022/2023 financial year. Two of the six projects will be rolled out in Mpumalanga, namely KwaNdokuhle and Willow Creek Social Housing Projects in Govan Mbeki and Msukaligwa Local Municipalities. The projects will be implemented over a 24 month period. The projects are expected to create over 2,600 job opportunities and will benefit both skilled and semi-skilled local labourers.

  • KIMBERLEY – 03 MAR 2022 (06H25) Protest expected by the Sol Plaatje Community Forum members on Thursday, 03 March 2022 from 16H30 at the Galeshewe Police Station. The members are expected to gather at Nobengula Street and march to the Police Station. The demonstrators are expected to protest against the high crime rate related to drugs and demand the Premier request Parliament to amend the Constitution to allow for stricter laws and law enforcement. The demonstrators are also expected to hand over a memorandum of demands. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 03 MAR 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 03 MAR 2022 (10H20) Shooting reported on Spandau Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • CAPE TOWN – 03 MAR 2022 (18H25) UPDATE Residents from six informal settlements in Khayelitsha have been protesting for housing today. This follows after residents heard that the City is planning to move residents living on the Metrorail line in Philippi to proper housing. Residents stated that the City is neglecting people who had been living in informal settlements for more than 15 years. (09H00) Police have announced that the Baden Powell Drive/ R310 has been reopened for traffic flow. Demonstrations reported on Mew Way Road and Pama Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.  (07H15) Road closure reported on Baden Powell Drive/R310 due to ongoing protest. (05H50) Protest reported on Swartklip Road/M49 towards Mew Way Road.
