SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 03 MAY 2022
• PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 02 MAY 2022 (19H00) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters have embarked on a protest to hand over a memorandum of demands to a Shoprite retail store at Greenacres Shopping Mall. The EFF has accused the retail store of exploitation of workers and also demands transformation among the management of the retail giant. The EFF further demanded workers employed for more than three months to be given permanent employment. A regional representative from the retail store accepted the memorandum of demands and stated that management will discuss the matter and a way forward.
• PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 03 MAY 2022 (02H15) The Nelson Bay Municipality is expected to host an information session on Thursday, 05 May 2022, at 18H00. The session is expected to discuss the drought crisis in the area. This follows as the City’s dam level has been reported at approximately 14%. Residents are urged to gather at the Despatch Town Hall, Uitenhage Town Hall, Gelvandale Community Hall and others. The session is set to be provided to the public virtually.
• BISHO – 03 MAY 2022 (06H30) The former Buffalo City Speaker Luleka Simon-Ndzele, former Mayor Zukiswa Ncitha, former Deputy Mayor Themba Tinta, former Member of the Executive (MEC) for Health, Sindiswa Gomba and the Municipality’s former Supply Chain Manager, Thembelani Sali are expected to appear at the Bisho High Court, today 03 May 2022. The accused have been charged with fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act. The charges are related to R10 million that was allegedly misused from the Buffalo City Metropolitan funds during the memorial and funeral of former President Nelson Mandela in 2013.
• IDUTYWA – 03 MAY 2022 (07H50) UPDATE Police have dispersed the demonstrations. The N2 routes has been reopened for traffic flow. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (06H50) Protest reported on the N2 from Idutywa towards Mthatha. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 03 MAY 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 02 MAY 2022 (19H30) Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela resumed Operation Thoso, today, 02 May 2022. The operation includes Ntombela conducting visits to government projects and premises unannounced to check on their progress. The aim of the operation is to see if reports handed over to the Premier office correlate with what is indeed happening on the ground. Premier Ntombela was accompanied by the Director-General of the Provincial Government, Kopung Ralikontsana.
• DENEYSVILLE – 03 MAY 2022 (09H35) Armed robbery reported at the Deneysville Post Office. Reports indicate that unidentified suspects have robbed the Post Office of an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries have been reported. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 03 MAY 2022
• SANDTON – 02 MAY 2022 (20H00) Former Eskom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Matshela Koko stated that the findings and evidence of Chief Justice Raymond Zondo in the latest instalment of the State Capture report, which involves Eskom, are inconsistent. Koko stated that he is considering taking the report on judicial review after it found he was an integral component of the Gupta family’s strategy to capture Eskom. The report also recommended that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) should investigate Koko with a view to possibly instituting prosecutions for violating the Public Finance Management Act, as well as for fraud and corruption.

• UMLAZI – 03 MAY 2022 (05H50) Protest reported on Griffiths Mxenge Highway/M30 in the vicinity of Mega City. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• PINETOWN – 03 MAY 2022 (06H05) Protest reported on Intake Road. Residents of Enteke in Marianhill are protesting due to poor service delivery related to water outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• DURBAN – 03 MAY 2022 (06H40) Road closure reported on the N3 near Shongeni due to a truck that overturned. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene. Recovery is in progress.
• DURBAN – 03 MAY 2022 (08H20) Minister of Tourism, Lindiwe Sisulu, is expected to officiate the opening of Africa’s Travel Indaba 2022 today, 03 May 2022, at the Durban Exhibition Centre. The indaba is expected to generate R 72.5 million income for the City’s economy and will focus on recovery from the pandemic, opportunities to combine business and leisure tourism, and enhancing intra-African travel and tourism.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 03 MAY 2022
• SASELAMANI – 02 MAY 2022 (22H50) The South African Police Service has announced that they arrested approximately eight suspects in the Salema Village. The arrests followed a joint operation by the SAPS, Saselamani detectives, the Vhembe task team, Tactical Response Teams and Crime Intelligence expectedly to have been established on Friday, 29 April 2022. The operation has been set to focus on capturing the suspects who allegedly attached 37-year-old Basani Shuma to her vehicle and drove for approximately several kilometres (km) on 11 April 2022. The attack is expected to be a mob retaliation as Shuma has allegedly been involved in illegal money lending activities. Reports indicate that during the investigation, members of the mob attacked the SAPS and set alight Shuma’s vehicle and house, valued at approximately R 400,000. The suspects are expected to appear before the Saselamani Magistrate’s Court for charges of murder, public violence, arson and malicious damage to property.
• BURGERSFORT – 03 MAY 2022 (09H30) Protest reported at the Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino and Convention Resort. Employees are protesting to demand salary adjustments for workers who have served the company for over five years and a 7% wage increase. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with stones and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 03 MAY 2022
• ELUKWATINI – 02 MAY 2022 (23H10) Hawks have launched an intelligence-driven search operation in Mpumalanga to capture approximately nine suspects. The suspects have allegedly defrauded approximately 5,000 civilians of an estimated R1 million. The Suspects used a fake company name Mr Coin which promised a return of 80% up to 150%. The company categorised their investments into three groups: silver, gold, and platinum. The company has been set to provide 80% interest for silver members, 100% for gold members and 150% for platinum investors. Hawk allegedly received information that the company office in the Elukwatini shopping centre was closed. The suspects requested that investors send cash instead of depositing money into a bank account. The public is advised to provide any information to assist the Hawks in capturing the suspects.

• MANTHE – 02 MAY 2022 (19H45) Residents in Manthe village near Taung have set alight two houses and a pick-up truck belonging to alleged narcotics syndicate leaders. The public is advised to avoid the area. Police are investigating the matter.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 03 MAY 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 02 MAY 2022 (23H30) The South African Government is expected to remove asbestos roofing in the Northern Cape. The Northern Cape Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Human Settlement Bafadile Lenkoe noted that approximately 20,000 homes in North Cape are still equipped with asbestos roofing. The announcement follows after Newton’s residence urged the government to fulfil their promise of removing the asbestos roofing President Cyril Ramaphosa received the fourth State Capture report, including the Free State asbestos saga. The saga has resulted in Edwin Sodi and suspended African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Ace Magashule facing corruption charges of approximately R200 million.

• HOUT BAY – 02 MAY 2022 (19H45) Business robbery reported at Checkers at the Melkhout Centre. Armed suspects are attempting to rob the store. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
• CAPE TOWN – 02 MAY 2022 (20H20) Shooting reported on Pollax Way in Ocean View. One victim has been shot and injured. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police and emergency services have been dispatched to the scene.
• CAPE TOWN – 03 MAY 2022 (05H00) Planned service disruption is expected in areas of Cape Town. The Knole park area is set to experience service disruptions from approximately 08H00 until 13H30. The Panorama area is set to be disrupted from approximately 08H00 until 14H00. Furthermore, the Robinville area is expected to experience service disruptions from approximately 09H00 until 16H00. The public is advised to handle all outlets as live in addition to disconnecting electrical appliances.
• CAPE TOWN – 03 MAY 2022 (08H30) Premier Alan Winde, along with the United States (US) Consulate General, Todd Haskell, and the US Trade and Development Agency’s (USTDA) Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Heather Lanigan, are expected to sign the R20 million broadband feasibility study agreement, today 03 May 2022 from 10H00. The study aims to look at solutions to bridge the digital divide and strengthen internet access in marginalised and rural communities. This will bolster the Province’s broadband infrastructure by providing affordable high-speed broadband networks throughout the Province.
