SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 04 FEB 2022.

  • PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 04 FEB 2022 (15H30) Police have conducted two raids in Gqeberha on Thursday, 03 February 2022, and Friday, 04 February 2022. Police Spokesperson Priscilla Naidu stated that in the first incident, at about 21H30 on Thursday, anti-gang unit members had raided a residence in Yellowwood Street, Arcadia. On searching the residence, a 9mm pistol, a magazine, and 21 rounds of ammunition have been found. In addition to narcotics valued at R43,500. At about 02H30 on Friday, a residence on a smallholding in Kragga Kamma was searched. Police confiscated marijuana products valued at R11,470.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 04 FEB 2022

  • DEALESVILLE – 04 FEB 2022 (08H40) Residents of Dealesville have raised concerns following water outages for five days in the area. The residents stated that the water outage has affected teaching and learning at Tshomarelo Primary School. Tokologo Local Municipality stated that Eskom has cut off its electricity supply to the main borehole that supplies water to the community due to long-standing debt.
  • BOTSHABELO – 04 FEB 2022 (14H00) Police have been deployed to the Setjhaba se Maketse combined school in Botshabelo. This follows after classes have been disrupted on Thursday, 03 February 2022, due to a student and her parent that assaulted a teacher. A criminal investigation has been launched at Botshabelo police station. Education Member of Executive Council (MEC), Tate Makgoe, has visited the school today, 04 February 2022, to support students and teachers who witnessed the incident.
  • SENEKAL – 04 FEB 2022 (16H00) AfriForum has opened a court case against the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) South Africa, EFF leader Julius Malema and EFF Member of Parliament Mbuyiseni Ndlozi. The parties are expected to appear in court from 07 February 2022 till 18 February 2022 on charges of hate speech. This follows after the EFF allegedly used hate speech at the court in Senekal while people were being prosecuted for the murder of Brendin Horner. A heightened security presence is expected at the court.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 04 FEB 2022

  • ROSEBANK – 04 FEB 2022 (06H05) Protest expected in Rosebank by members affiliated with the Global Coastal Rebellion today, 04 February 2022, at 13H00. The members are expected to march to five locations. The march locations include the International Finance Corporation, BP Southern Africa, Total Energies, Standard Bank and Southern Sun. Demonstrators are marching to raise awareness regarding climate change. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the march. Police will be monitoring the situation.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 04 FEB 2022 (17H00) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed at the Fairview Mini-Market on Wille Swart Avenue. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (09H30) Peaceful protest reported at Fairview Mini-Market on Wille Swart Avenue. Employees of Gauteng Emergency Medical Services has started gathering ahead of the march to raise awareness on the ongoing attacks on paramedics in the province. The demonstrators are expected to march from Wille Swart Avenue to Winkler Avenue, where an attack occurred. Motorists are advised to be vigilant and use alternative routes. Police are expected to monitor the march.
  • VANDERBIJLPARK – 04 FEB 2022 (17H10) UPDATE The R57 has been re-opened to traffic. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (13H45) Road closure reported on the R57 between Vanderbijlpark and Sasolburg. The road is closed due to ongoing investigations into the CIT robbery. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. (12H10) One Police officer has been killed and one injured. Reports indicate that two Police officers were responding to the incident where robbers opened fire. Three security guards have been injured. (10H20) Cash in Transit (CIT) robbery reported on the R57 in the vicinity of Bongani Mabaso Eco Park. Reports indicate that unidentified suspects have bombed and robbed an armoured vehicle of an undisclosed amount of money. Several injuries have been reported. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 04 FEB 2022 (15H00) The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) announced that dismissed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zolani Matthews’ Labour Court case has been withdrawn and referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA). PRASA announced, in December 2021, Matthews’ employment contract had been terminated. This follows after the State Security Agency (SSA) declined his security clearance application due to his United Kingdom (UK) citizenship, which he allegedly failed to disclose before assuming the position.
  • SANDTON – 04 FEB 2022 (17H20) Eskom announced that load shedding will be reduced to stage 1 from 21H00 tonight until 05H00 on Monday, 07 February 2022. This is due to improvement in the generation capacity and a significant recovery in the emergency generation reserves. Eskom will continue to evaluate the system and make the necessary adjustments.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 04 FEB 2022

  • PONGOLA – 04 FEB 2022 (09H00) UPDATE The N2 routes has been reopened for traffic flow. The situation remains volatile. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (07H35) Road closure reported on the N2 near Kwamlogo Hill due to protest. (06H30) Protest reported on the N2 between Pongola and Piet Retief. Truckers have blocked the road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
  • DURBAN – 04 FEB 2022 (16H00) UPDATE The EFFSC has delivered the memorandum of demands to the DUT management. The EFFSC has given DUT management three days to respond to the demands. If they fail to respond on time, the EFFSC members have threatened to continue to protest. (11H50) A heightened police presence reported in the vicinity of DUT. The EFFSC members are expected to hand over a memorandum of demands. (11H20) UPDATE Demonstrations reported outside DUT. (06H10) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters Students Command (EFFSC) today, 04 February 2022, at Durban University of Technology (DUT) at 10H30. The EFFSC members are expected to gather Curries Fountain Sports Ground and march to DUT. The members are expected to protest to demand justice and accountability from DUT Management for Mlungisi Madonsela that was shot in 2019 during a protest. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are aware of the protest.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 04 FEB 2022

  • COLIGNY – 04 FEB 2022 (09H10) The Coligny Magistrate Court has postponed the case of four Police officers that were arrested in connection with 300 counts of fraud to Monday, 14 March 2022. The police officers allegedly colluded with petrol attendants between January and December 2020 using fuel cards of police vehicles to pay for fuel not used for these vehicles. Provincial Police Spokesperson, Colonel Amanda Funani, stated that the officers will be suspended for internal departmental investigations to be conducted.
  • RUSTENBURG – 04 FEB 2022 (16H30) Protest reported at the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s Special Council meeting. Marikana residents of Ward 31 have disrupted the meeting. Security services are on the scene.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 04 FEB 2022

  • KIMBERLEY – 04 FEB 2022 (16H15) The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education has expressed concerns about crime at schools in Northern Cape. The committee has been conducting its oversight visit in the province. Committee Chairperson Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba stated that they had noted that crime such as theft, burglary and vandalism is a common denominator at schools in the Z F Mgcawu education district, where they visited eight schools over two days. The committee is expected to end its oversight visit in the province today, 04 February 2022, by visiting schools in the Frances Baard education district, including Kimberley.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 04 FEB 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 04 FEB 2022 (13H00) UPDATE The magistrate court has denied Mafe’s bail application. The case has been postponed to Friday, 11 February 2022. (10H50) A heightened Police presence reported outside the court ahead of Mafe appearance in court. (08H20) Protest expected today, 04 February 2022, at the Cape Town Regional Court from 09H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest in solidarity with Zandile Mafe, who was arrested for arson and other charges relating to a fire at Parliament. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are aware of the protest. (08H50) The Cape Town Regional Court is expected to hand down the judgement for Zandile Mafe’s bail application today, 04 February 2022. Mafe has been arrested for arson and other charges relating to a fire at Parliament.
  • CAPE TOWN – 04 FEB 2022 (13H50) Road closure reported on the N2 at Sir Lowry’s Pass. The road is closed due to a bush fire in the mountain. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Firefighters are on the scene attempting to contain the fire.
  • CAPE TOWN – 04 FEB 2022 (15H00) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed on Ottery Road in the vicinity of Ottery Cemetery. The road is open to traffic. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation. (10H10) Protest reported on Ottery Road in the vicinity of Ottery Cemetery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris.
