SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 05 APR 2022
• BISHO – 05 APR 2022 (07H15) The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) has announced a planned power outage in Bhisho on Wednesday, 06 April 2022, from 06H00 until 18H00. The purpose of the power interruption is for the Municipality BCMM to commission the Scada System. The following areas will be affected Khawuta Street, Circular Drive/Bambo Street, Chungwa Street and the R63. The Municipality stated that updates will be provided to the public as the situation progresses.
• EAST LONDON – 05 APR 2022 (11H20) Protest expected at the Walter Sisulu University on Sunday, 10 April 2022. The demonstrators are expected to protest in solidarity with Sibongile Mani, who was sentenced to 5 years in prison following a case of theft against her for spending over R800 000 of the R14.1 million deposited into her student allowance card. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 05 APR 2022
• WELKOM – 05 APR 2022 (07H45) Protest expected by Students of the Central University of Technology (CUT) Welkom Campus today, 05 April 2022, from 12H00. The students are expected to gather at Small Teba. The demonstrators are expected to protest due to the lack of accommodation for students. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 05 APR 2022 (10H00) The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, is expected to meet with the Mayoral Committees and Managers of the Mangaung Metro Municipality and other municipalities today, 05 April 2022. The meeting follows after a meeting held with Premier Sisi Ntombela and the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mxolisi Dukwana, on Monday, 04 April 2022, ahead of the second Presidential Imbizo.
• WELKOM – 05 APR 2022 (12H45) The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Makhotso Sotyu, is expected to hand over a waste collection compactor truck to the Matjhabeng Local Municipality on Thursday, 07 April 2022, at the Municipal Town Hall from 09H00. The Deputy Minister’s visit to the province forms part of activities linked to the Presidential Imbizo on Saturday, 09 April 2022, in Bloemfontein. The handing over of a waste compactor truck to the Matjhabeng Local Municipality is part of improving waste collection services in the unserviced areas of the province. The handover would be preceded by a clean-up campaign around Welkom’s city centre to promote educational waste awareness and discourage littering and illegal dumping in open spaces.
• QWAQWA – 05 APR 2022 (16H20) Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela has condemned the burning of two buildings at the University of the Free State’s (UFS) QwaQwa campus on Monday, 04 April 2022. The buildings have allegedly been set alight by students who have been protesting over National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allocations. The Premier is expected to engage with university management to find a lasting solution. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.

• PRETORIA – 05 APR 2022 (07H50) President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Minister of Employment and Labour Thulas Nxesi as Acting Minister of Public Service and Administration. This follows after Minister of Public Service and Administration Ayanda Dlodlo’s appointment as an Executive Director on the board of the World Bank in Washington in the United States.
• JOHANNESBURG – 05 APR 2022 (08H00) Peaceful protest reported at the Orlando Magistrate’s Court. Community members are protesting against the bail application of the accused, Russell Zwane. The accused allegedly murdered a victim in Dube in March 2022. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 05 APR 2022 (09H10) UPDATE Police have dispersed demonstrations. The road has been reopened for traffic flow. The situation remains volatile. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (05H20) Protest reported on Moloto Road/R573 in Roodeplaat. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 05 APR 2022 (12H30) UPDATE The demonstrators blocked traffic flow on Francis Baard street and Paul Kruger Street. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. (11H50) Demonstrations reported outside the DHET. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (06H00) Protest expected by the members of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) today, 05 April 2022, at the Department of Higher Education and Traning from 10H00. The EFFSC members are expected to protest to demand free education and demand The Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande, to step down. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 05 APR 2022 (14H30) Protest expected at the Union Buildings by the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) on Friday, 08 April 2022. The EFFSC members are expected to protest for free education and the resignation of the Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande. The EFFSC members will hand over a memorandum of demands to the Presidency. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes for the duration of the protest. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• GERMISTON – 05 APR 2022 (15H45) Demonstration expected at the Germiston Civic Centre on Saturday, 09 April 2022, by members of Operation Dudula at 10H00. Operation Dudula is expected to launch a Germiston branch. Historically, Operation Dudula is known to take action against illegal foreign nationals in South Africa. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the demonstration.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 05 APR 2022
• MTUBATUBA – 05 APR 2022 (06H30) Protest expected today, 05 April 2022, on the R618 between Mtubatuba and St Lucia. The demonstrators are expected to protest due to land claims on the iSimangaliso property in the vicinity of the 121 Battalion Military base. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• DURBAN – 05 APR 2022 (14H40) Cash in transit (CIT) robbery reported on Chris Hani Road/ R102, opposite Bluff Meat Supply by Caltex Garage. Suspects are attempting to rob a G4S armoured vehicle. Shooting is in progress. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police are on the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 05 APR 2022
• PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 05 APR 2022 (08H30) Protest expected by the South African Students Congress (SASCO) members today, 05 April 2022, at the University of Limpopo. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand their National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) student allowances. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• POTGIETERSRUS/ MOKOPANE – 05 APR 2022 (16H00) The Mogalakwena Local Municipality has issued notices with the intention to suspend eight employees. The Special Investigating Unit’s (SIU) report has recommended that employees implicated in corruption be suspended and some cases, be referred for prosecution. The Municipality has given the employees seven working days to respond to the notices. The Municipality will wait for legal advice on how to proceed after receiving the replies.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 05 APR 2022
• TRICHARDT – 05 APR 2022 (12H15) Road closure reported on the N17 in Trichardt due to a motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency Services are on the scene.
• HAZYVIEW – 05 APR 2022 (17H00) The Police have launched a search operation for a suspect who fired gunshots in a tavern at Shabalala Trust in Hazyview. The suspect allegedly shot three people and set alight two vehicles on Monday, 04 April 2022, at 06H30. One victim has been fatally wounded, and two others injured. The Police have opened a case of murder, with two counts of attempted murder and arson. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Mpumalanga, Semakaleng Manamela, is calling for liquor business owners to operate within the ambits of the law.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 05 APR 2022
• KLERKSDORP – 05 APR 2022 (13H00) The Matlosana Municipality has announced a planned water outage in Khuma, Hartbeesfontein and Tigane from today, 05 April, until Wednesday, 06 April 2022, from 06H00 to 18H00. The water outage is due to a pump line leak repair. The affected areas include Khuma Extension 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7, and Hartbeesfontein and Tigane. The Municipality stated that updates will be provided to the public as the situation progresses.

• POSTMASBURG – 05 APR 2022 (06H30) Protest reported on the R325 in the vicinity of D & D Conversionz and towards Kuruman. The reason for the protest is unknown at this stage. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 05 APR 2022
• CAPE TOWN – 05 APR 2022 (11H50) Brussels-based airline, Air Belgium, has announced the commencement of flights to South Africa from September 2022, operating by three flights per week to Cape Town and Johannesburg. The airline will begin operations with two flights to Cape Town, a direct flight to Brussel and a depot route from Brussels to Johannesburg and Cape Town. Western Cape Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities David Maynier has welcomed the decision by Air Belgium.
• CAPE TOWN – 05 APR 2022 (16H40) The City of Cape Town is expected to launch its Land Release Programme for More Affordable Housing at its first Affordable Housing Indaba this week. The Indaba seeks to bring together affordable housing partners to unlock opportunities on land that will be released by the city. The land being evaluated is located in and near the Cape Town Central Business District and other urban centres in the metropolitan.
