SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 06 APR 2022

  • PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 05 APR 2022 (20H10) The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality announced a scheduled power outage on Saturday, 09 April 2022, from 08H00 till 17H00. The affected areas include Zwide, KwaZakhele, New Brighton, Struandale Industrial and SATS. Technicians will use the time to do maintenance on the Swartkops, Matomela and KwaFord lines.
  • ALIWAL NORTH – 06 APR 2022 (04H40) South African Police Services (SAPS) has announced the results of a recent police operation in the Palmietfontein area. The operation has been launched regarding the prevention of increased illegal firearms. Members of the K9 unit, Public Order Policing (POPS), Palmietfontein Crime Prevention, and the Sterkspruit Detectives travelled to the Qoboshane admin area regarding information gathering. The members gathered information regarding a suspect allegedly involved in a shooting on 27 March 2022 at Qoboshane village. Police searched the Suspects residence and confiscated a 9mm pistol, a revolver and four rounds of ammunition. The Suspect is expected to appear before the court regarding the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
  • BHISHO – 06 APR 2022 (06H10) The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) has announced a planned power outage in Bhisho today, 06 April 2022, from 06H00 until 18H00. The purpose of the power interruption is for the Municipality BCMM to commission the Scada System. The following areas will be affected Khawuta Street, Circular Drive/Bambo Street, Chungwa Stree and the R63. The Municipality stated that updates will be provided to the public as the situation progresses

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 06 APR 2022

  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 05 APR 2022 (19H00) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo to the Free State Province on Friday, 08 April and Saturday, 09 April 2022, at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium. The DDM Presidential Imbizo aims to give the President an opportunity to listen to the people and respond to their concerns, amongst others.
  • QWAQWA – 06 APR 2022 (04H20) The University of the Free State (UFS) has confirmed an arrest following the fire in a UFS building. The UFS stated that they expect to institute the necessary disciplinary action against the registered student in addition to the institution of criminal charges. The damage is estimated at R35 million and includes a clinic and computer lab. The UFS stated that the campus is not expected to be affected, and protection services are monitoring the situation on campus. The Police are undergoing an operation to identify and arrest an alleged fleeing suspect.
  • BOTHAVILLE – 06 APR 2022 (09H30) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members today, 06 April 2022 at Bothaville Primary School from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Bothaville  South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offices and march to the school. The demonstrators are expected to protest to call for the renaming of the school. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 06 APR 2022

  • CENTURION – 05 APR 2022 (21H50) Protest reported in Diepsloot. Members are protesting in solidarity with operation Buyela E Khaya. The protest follows after the recent  Leaders in the community met with the South African Police Services (SAPS) and the office of the Members of the Executive Council (MEC) regarding the increased crime in the area. The protest followed after the Leaders’ brief meeting on 05 April 2022, where they agreed on a two-day total shutdown from Tuesday, 05 April 2022, until Thursday, 07 April 2022. This followed after the meeting with the SAPS, and MEC provided no solutions. Protestors have requested the return of the Minister of Police for communications regarding promises he made in February 2022 and the deployment of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Tactical Response Team (TRT). Furthermore, members requested the removal of illegal immigrants and Nigerian Gold shops in and around the township. Protestors have expectedly blocked the roads with burning tyres. The public has been advised not to attend school or work. Additionally, no shops or services are expected to open, with the exception of clinics. The public is advised to remain alert in the area.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 06 APR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by the members of the Forgotten Nation today, 06 April 2022 at the Department of Employment and Labour. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the corner of Kgosi Mampuru Street and Madiba Street. The demonstrators are expected to protest against ageism and demand job creation. The demonstrators will be submitting a Memorandum of Demands (MoD) and Organisational Projects plans for job creation. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the situation.
  • SPRINGS – 06 APR 2022 (06H00) Protest reported on Tonkmeter Road/ M63 in the vicinity of Nokuphila Community Services. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 06 APR 2022 (09H40) Protest expected by the members of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) today, 06 April 2022, at the Department of Higher Education and Training from 10H00. The EFFSC members are expected to protest to demand free education and demand The Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande, to step down. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 06 APR 2022 (09H50) UPDATE Police have dispersed demonstrations. Kaserne Hostel residents are protesting due to poor service delivery. The situation remains volatile. Motorists are advised to use Vickers Road and the M2 as alternative routes.  (05H05) Protest reported on Heidelberg Road/M31 in City Deep. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 06 APR 2022

  • DURBAN – 05 APR 2022 (20H00) UPDATE A shootout ensued between G4S security guards and suspects during the CIT on Chris Hani Road today, 05 April 2022. Multiple Armed Response Officers and Special Operation Team members responded to the scene. On arrival, the suspects have already fled the scene. No money has been taken. One security guard has been injured. Police are investigating the matter. (14H40) Cash in transit (CIT) robbery reported on Chris Hani Road/ R102, opposite Bluff Meat Supply by Caltex Garage. Suspects are attempting to rob a G4S armoured vehicle. Shooting is in progress. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
  • PORT SHEPSTONE – 06 APR 2022 (06H30) Stone-throwing reported on the N2 between Port Shepstone and Durban. Reports indicate that unidentified suspects are throwing stones in an attempt to stop trucks. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
  • DURBAN – 06 APR 2022 (06H40) Operation Dudula movement is expected to march on Sunday, 10 April 2022 from 08H30. The members are expected to gather at the Durban City Hall. The march will be part of the official launch of the movement in the province. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be dispatched to monitor the area.

  • LEBOWAKGOMO – 06 APR 2022 (08H40) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Namane Dickson Masemola, is expected to deliver the budget speech for 2022/23 for the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure on Thursday, 07 April 2022 from 10H00 at the Legislative Chambers.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 06 APR 2022

  • MALELANE – 06 APR 2022 (06H15) Peaceful protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) at Ruperts Farm today, 06 April 2022. EFF members and supporters are expected to conduct the party’s Land Day Picket at Rupert Farms in Malelane. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Malelane Gate RCL Foods Procurement from 09H00 before marching to Ruperts Farms. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during the protest and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

  • SETLAGOLE – 06 APR 2022 (08H55) The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Premier, Finance, Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs will hold an oversight meeting today, 06 April 2022, at the Ratlou Municipality from 09H00 over various matters of Governance which include the status of water services, failure to implement Special Investigations Unit (SIU) report and compliance of provisions of Municipal Systems Act.
  • POTCHEFSTROOM – 06 APR 2022 (09H20) Protest reported on the N2 at the Traffic Department. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 06 APR 2022

  • POSTMASBURG – 05 APR 2022 (20H35) The Tsantsabane Unemployment and Business Forum (TUBF) led a community protest in Postmasburg today, 05 April 2022. Demonstrators have been protesting against the operations of 11 mines in the area that are accused of not contributing to the Social Labour Plan (SLP). The demonstrators barricaded the entrance and exit roads to the mines with rocks and burning tyres. Trucks and loading vehicles have been prevented from entering or exiting the mines. The roads affected included the R385, the R31 to Lime Acres, and the road between Kuruman and Kathu. The demonstrators are expected to hold a meeting with the listed mines on Thursday, 07 April 2022.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 06 APR 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 05 APR 2022 (20H20) The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) announced that it had received the first tranche of its budget allocation from the National Treasury. There have been delays in this year’s allocation to NSFAS, which has led to beneficiaries not receiving their allowances. NSFAS stated that it will start disbursing funds to institutions of higher learning on Friday, 08 April 2022.
  • STELLENBOSCH – 06 APR 2022 (06H05) Peaceful protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) at Ruperts Farm in Stellenbosch today, 06 April 2022. EFF Cape Winelands members and supporters are expected to conduct the party’s Land Day Picket at Rupert Farms in Stellenbosch, Cape Town. Participants are expected to gather at the corner of Simmons Street and Koelenhof Road from 09H00 before marching to Ruperts Farms. Motorists are advised that ground travel disruptions are expected during the march. Authorities are expected to be deployed to the area to monitor the demonstration.
