SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 06 APR 2022
• ALIWAL NORTH – 06 APR 2022 (04H40) South African Police Services (SAPS) has announced the results of a recent police operation in the Palmietfontein area. The operation has been launched regarding the prevention of increased illegal firearms. Members of the K9 unit, Public Order Policing (POPS), Palmietfontein Crime Prevention, and the Sterkspruit Detectives travelled to the Qoboshane admin area regarding information gathering. The members gathered information regarding a suspect allegedly involved in a shooting on 27 March 2022 at Qoboshane village. Police searched the Suspects residence and confiscated a 9mm pistol, a revolver and four rounds of ammunition. The Suspect is expected to appear before the court regarding the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
• BHISHO – 06 APR 2022 (06H10) The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) has announced a planned power outage in Bhisho today, 06 April 2022, from 06H00 until 18H00. The purpose of the power interruption is for the Municipality BCMM to commission the Scada System. The following areas will be affected Khawuta Street, Circular Drive/Bambo Street, Chungwa Stree and the R63. The Municipality stated that updates will be provided to the public as the situation progresses

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 06 APR 2022
• QWAQWA – 06 APR 2022 (04H20) The University of the Free State (UFS) has confirmed an arrest following the fire in a UFS building. The UFS stated that they expect to institute the necessary disciplinary action against the registered student in addition to the institution of criminal charges. The damage is estimated at R35 million and includes a clinic and computer lab. The UFS stated that the campus is not expected to be affected, and protection services are monitoring the situation on campus. The Police are undergoing an operation to identify and arrest an alleged fleeing suspect.
• BOTHAVILLE – 06 APR 2022 (09H30) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members today, 06 April 2022, at Bothaville Primary School from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Bothaville South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offices and march to the school. The demonstrators are expected to protest to call for the renaming of the school. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• LADYBRAND – 06 APR 2022 (17H05) Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for State Security, Zizi Kodwa, is expected to visit the Maseru Bridge Port of Entry on Thursday, 07 April 2022. The Deputy Minister will interact with various Government officials stationed at the Port of Entry from State Security, Home Affairs, the Police, Port Health and the South African Revenue Service (SARS). The Deputy Minister will also inspect the state of the infrastructure and operations, including the challenges and interventions needed to strengthen operations at the Port of Entry. This visit coincides with the planned Presidential Oversight Visit and Imbizo in the Mangaung District, which takes place on Friday, 08 April 2022 and Saturday, 09 April 2022.

• SPRINGS – 06 APR 2022 (06H00) Protest reported on Tonkmeter Road/ M63 in the vicinity of Nokuphila Community Services. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • JOHANNESBURG – 06 APR 2022 (09H50) UPDATE Police have dispersed demonstrations. Kaserne Hostel residents are protesting due to poor service delivery. The situation remains volatile. Motorists are advised to use Vickers Road and the M2 as alternative routes. (05H05) Protest reported on Heidelberg Road/M31 in City Deep. • JOHANNESBURG – 06 APR 2022 (10H10) Protest expected by the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) members on Wednesday, 13 April 2022, at the Constitutional Court. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Beyer Naude Square from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to march to the court to defend the right of churches to meet without gathering restrictions or need to provide vaccine certificates. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
• VOSLOORUS – 06 APR 2022 (12H05) Protest reported outside the Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital. Members affiliated with the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) are protesting due to labour-related matters. The demonstrators have shut down the health facility and demand management to address their grievances. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 06 APR 2022 (14H55) UPDATE Demonstrators have delivered their memorandum of demands at the Department of Employment and Labour. (13H10) Demonstrations reported outside the Department of Employment and Labour. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demands to the management. Police are on the scene. (06H00) Protest expected by the members of the Forgotten Nation today, 06 April 2022 at the Department of Employment and Labour. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the corner of Kgosi Mampuru Street and Madiba Street. The demonstrators are expected to protest against ageism and demand job creation. The demonstrators will be submitting a Memorandum of Demands (MoD) and Organisational Projects plans for job creation. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the situation.
• RANDBURG – 06 APR 2022 (16H45) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, and EFF Member of Parliament (MP) Mbuyiseni Ndlozi are expected to appear at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 07 April 2022. Malema and Ndlozi allegedly assaulted a Senior Police Officer in uniform in April 2018. The Senior Police Officer laid a complaint with the Police. However, the Police failed to attend to the complaint until AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit made enquiries into the investigation in January 2019.
• DIEPSLOOT – 06 APR 2022 (17H20) UPDATE Police Minister Bheki Cele and Premier David Makhura have addressed the demonstrators. The Minister and Premier also held a meeting with community leaders. During the meeting, Cele requested that the matter be postponed to Friday, 08 April 2022, to allow for further discussions regarding the grievances. The community leaders disagreed, suggesting that they will take the Minister to conduct a door-to-door intervention. In addition, the National Commissioner of Police, Fannie Masemola has agreed to deliver ten Police vehicles and the Provincial Police Commissioner has agreed to deliver six vehicles to ensure high visibility and patrol in Diepsloot. (15H20) The Gauteng Community Safety Member of Executive Council (MEC) Faith Mazibuko is expected to visit Diepsloot today, 06 April 2022. Mazibuko will visit the Diepsloot Police Station to obtain detailed information about the four people killed the past weekend and speak to the community about their concerns. (13H20) Demonstrations reported outside Diepsloot Police Station. Residents demand Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, to address the high crime rates in the area. (11H20) Protest reported in Diepsloot. • PORT SHEPSTONE – 06 APR 2022 (06H30) Stone-throwing reported on the N2 between Port Shepstone and Durban. Reports indicate that unidentified suspects are throwing stones in an attempt to stop trucks. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
• DURBAN – 06 APR 2022 (06H40) Operation Dudula movement is expected to march on Sunday, 10 April 2022 from 08H30. The members are expected to gather at the Durban City Hall. • LEBOWAKGOMO – 06 APR 2022 (08H40) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Namane Dickson Masemola, is expected to deliver the budget speech for 2022/23 for the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure on Thursday, 07 April 2022 from 10H00 at the Legislative Chambers.
• DENDRON – 06 APR 2022 (14H20) Protest reported in and around Dendron. The local municipality has turned-off the electricity in the informal settlement. Demonstrators are barricading the road with debris. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 06 APR 2022 (14H30) Taxi operators are gathering on Landros Mare Street/ R101 in the vicinity of South African Breweries. The taxi operators are expected to close the N1. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 06 APR 2022
• TONGA – 06 APR 2022 (14H00) The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) has raised concerns over the Department of Health’s failure to respond to their memorandum of demands handed over in March 2022 regarding the Tonga Hospital. NEHAWU has raised concerns regarding the non-payment of overtime and acting allowances dating back to 2017, as well as the lack of infrastructure maintenance. The Department’s Spokesperson Dumisani Malamule stated that the Department is still investigating the grievances.
• STOFBERG – 06 APR 2022 (14H45) Road closure reported on the R555 between Stofberg and Middelburg. A heavy motor vehicle overturned. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.

• STELLENBOSCH – 06 APR 2022 (15H05) UPDATE A representative for Remgro investment company, Monica Hickman, has received the memorandum of demands. The Head of Remgro, Johann Rupert, was unavailable today. The EEF has given Rupert 14 days to respond to their grievances. (12H50) The EFF members have arrived at the Rupert Museum. Malema is expected to address the demonstrators. (11H50) The EFF members, led by the Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, have started marching on Koelenhof Road towards the R310. (09H35) EFF members have started gathering ahead of the protest at the Rupert Farm. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (06H05) Peaceful protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) at Ruperts Farm in Stellenbosch today, 06 April 2022. EFF Cape Winelands members and supporters are expected to conduct the party’s Land Day Picket at Rupert Farms in Stellenbosch, Cape Town. Participants are expected to gather at the corner of Simmons Street and Koelenhof Road from 09H00 before marching to Ruperts Farms.
