  • PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 07 MAR 2022 (07H00) Protest expected by the members of the Green Connection today, 08 March 2022, at Wells Estate Beach in Gqeberha. The demonstrators will be protesting against the seismic surveys on the West Coast. Demonstrations will begin at 08H00 until 11H00. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are aware of the protest.

  • KROONSTAD – 07 MAR 2022 (08H00) Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, is scheduled to lead the International Women’s Day celebration on Tuesday, 08 March 2022, in Kroonstad. The celebration is scheduled to take place at Constantia Park. The event will be held under the theme, Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow.
  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 07 MAR 2022 (15H00) Protest reported at the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on the corner of Aliwal Street and Peet Avenue. Demonstrators are barricading the entrance of the court. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are on the scene.
  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 07 MAR 2022 (15H45) Protest reported at the Central University of Technology. Students are protesting due to academic challenges and the non-payment of allowances by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). Students have forcefully entered the institution after management declined to take their memorandum of demands. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are on the scene.
  • ODENDAALSRUS – 07 MAR 2022 (17H45) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed outside the Wessel Maree Secondary School in Odendaalsrus. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (12H40) Protest reported outside the Wessel Maree Secondary School in Odendaalsrus. Community members are protesting over alleged harassment by teachers against students. This follows after a video circulated over a teacher who mistreated a student. The ANC’s council whip in the Matjhabeng Municipality, Maabane Sehabela, claims the alleged assault was racially motivated. Police are on the scene and are monitoring the situation. Members of the public are advised to be cautious.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 07 MAR 2022

  • JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – 07 MAR 2022 (09H50) The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) licensing department has announced that several licencing offices in Johannesburg are closed due to protest action. This follows after a protest action over the changes made to the Gauteng Provincial Government driver licence and testing booking system. The CoJ licensing department and testing station have been affected by the protest action despite the decision made by the province. The affected licencing offices include Midrand licensing, Roodepoort City Hall, Region E licensing department, Langlaagte Licensing Department, Ormonde Licensing, Eureka house.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 07 MAR 2022 (11H00) The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) is scheduled to hold a media briefing on Tuesday, 08 March 2022. Discussions will focus on the dismissals by the City of Johannesburg and a way forward for the workers. Members of the media are welcome to attend. COVID-19 guidelines will be adhered to.
  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 07 MAR 2022 (14H15) Protest expected at the Pretoria Department of Employment and Labour on Saturday, 09 April 2022 by the Forgotten Nation. Demonstrators will be marching to the Department to protest against ageism and demand job creation. The demonstrators will be submitting a Memorandum of Demands (MoD) and Organisational Projects plans for job creation. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest.
  • VANDERBIJLPARK – 07 MAR 2022 (14H50) Protest reported at Vaal University of Technology on Andries Potgieter Boulevard and Hendrik van Eck Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark. Students are barricading the entrance of the University. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police and Security Services are on the scene.
  • SANDTON – 07 MAR 2022 (16H15) Eskom announced the implementation of stage two loadshedding from 21H00 till 05H00 today, 07 March 2022, and 21H00 till 05H00 on Tuesday, 08 March 2022. The loadshedding is required for Eskom to replenish the emergency generation reserves. A unit each at Matla, Kendal, Matimba, Kusile and Grootvlei’s power stations tripped while Arnot and Hendrina’s power stations are shut down.
  • SANDTON – 07 MAR 2022 (16H45) UPDATE More than ten people have been injured at the Pan African Mall in Alexandra following clashes between foreign nationals and members of Operation Dudula. (15H30) Operation Dudula Members marched to the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court. The members are protesting outside the Magistrate’s Court, demanding the removal of foreign nationals. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are monitoring the situation. (15H15) Clashes reported at the Pan Africa Mall between Operation Dudula members and foreign nationals. Community members in Alexandra are attempting to close businesses owned by foreign nationals. Roads that are affected include Watt Avenue, second Street and Third Street. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
  • EKANGALA – 07 MAR 2022 (17H45) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed in the vicinity of Ekangala and Rethabiseng near the R568. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation. (06H00) Protest reported in the vicinity of Ekangala and Rethabiseng near the R568 Road. The demonstrators are protesting due to service delivery issues. The demonstrators have obstructed several roads within the area with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route. Police are on the scene.
  • DUDUZA – 07 MAR 2022 (18H00) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed on the R550 between Nigel and R23 in Duduza. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation. (08H30) Protest reported in the vicinity of Duduza near the substation within the area. Demonstrators are burning tyres and debris. Police are on the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (06H00) Motorists have been advised to be cautious on the R550 between Nigel and R23 due to recent protest actions. Police are aware of the situation.
  • AKASIA – 07 MAR 2022 (18H20) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed at the Akasia Licencing Department. This follows after Minister Fikile Mbalula conducted an oversight visit at the Department. The Transport Member of Executive Council (MEC) met with protesters to discuss their demands. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (11H30) Minister Fikile Mbalula is briefing the media amid ongoing protests outside the Akasia testing station in Tshwane. (10H50) The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, has arrived at the Akasia Licencing Department to conduct an oversight visit at the licensing Department. The demonstrators have confronted Mbalula and have urged him to intervene. (10H30) Protest reported outside the Akasia Licencing Department in Tshwane. People from driving school are demanding a user-friendly system. The demonstrators have denounced the NaTIS Online Booking services, which had been launched by the Department of Transport and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC). SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 07 MAR 2022

  • LIONS RIVER – 07 MAR 2022 (09H00) Road closure expected along the N3. Travellers are advised to avoid travelling along the N3 between Howick and Nottingham Road on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 07-09 March 2022, between 10H00-12H00 and again between 14H00-16H00. The closures are due to maintenance work by Eskomon essential overhead cables. Heavy motor vehicles will be stacked on the N3 for the duration of the closure, while light motor vehicles will be diverted via the R103 for a total approximate distance of 45 kilometres.
  • DURBAN – 07 MAR 2022 (12H30) The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is scheduled to hold an International Women’s Day Seminar on Tuesday, 08 March 2022 at 10H00 at the COSATU Provincial Office. The event will be held under the theme of “Dialogue with the Palestinian Ambassador”.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 07 MAR 2022

  • MUSINA – 07 MAR 2022 (09H50) The Limpopo Provincial Government is expected to approach the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to supply water for the Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This follows after the Environmental Impact Assessment had been approved, despite protests and significant resource shortages in the region. Initial proposals are for the construction of a dam along the Limpopo River in Musina at an estimated cost of R14-billion.
  • THOHOYANDOU – 07 MAR 2022 (16H30) The One South Africa Movement has raised concerns after people have been blocked from entering the first public hearing on electoral reform in Thohoyandou today, 07 March 2022. Movement Spokesperson Mudzuli Rakhivhane, stated that the Thulamela indoor sports centre was 60% full when the organisers locked the doors. As a result, some participants have been denied access to the hall for the first session of the hearings. The movement deemed it as an unfair practice that was implemented without a valid reason.
  • RAMALEMA – 07 MAR 2022 (18H45) Road closure reported on the R36 between the Maake Plaza and Burgersdorp, outside Lenyenye in the Mopani District. The road is closed due to an overturned fuel tanker. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.

  • MATSAFENI – 07 MAR 2022 (18H30) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed in Matsafeni. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation. (09H00) Protest reported in the vicinity of Matsafeni. The community members are protesting, demanding that the City of Mbombela intervene over the increase of crimes in the area. This follows after suspects allegedly sold land illegally and murdered residents. Police are on the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 07 MAR 2022

  • POTCHEFSTROOM – 07 MAR 2022 (07H00) Water services disrupted from 07H00 until 12H00 today, 07 March 2022. The Local Municipality has announced a planned water outage to undergo repairs to a water supply line to Botoka Secondary School. Areas affected by the water outage include Matlwang, Mapetla, Two-line, Vietnam. Historic protests in the area have erupted due to prolonged water outages. Travellers are advised to monitor social media for developments.
  • LICHTENBURG – 07 MAR 2022 (14H00) Road closure reported on the R503 at NWK Grain Silo between Lichtenburg and Coligny. The road is closed due to a heavy motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.

  • GEORGE – 07 MAR 2022 (03H40) The George Municipality has announced a planned power outage scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 08 March 2022, from 09H00 until 16H30. The affected areas will include, Akasi, Mann, De Mist, Mimosa, Boekenhout, Janssen and FifthzPark. The service disruption is to do alterations to the essential mains.
  • CONSTANTIA – 07 MAR 2022 (11H15) Road closure reported on Main Road by Stadium on Main Shopping Mall. Reports indicate that the road is closed due to an ongoing crime scene. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route. Authorities are on scene.
