SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 08 APR 2022

  • EAST LONDON – 08 APR 2022 (07H00) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on Ziphunzana Bypass in Scenery Park. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.  (06H30) Protest reported on Black Road/ Mdantsane Access Road. Previous demonstrations have been related to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 08 APR 2022

  • HARRISMITH – 07 APR 2022 (19H00) Residents in the Maluti-A-Phofung municipality have raised concerns regarding power outages. Community members stated that the power outages cause damage to their appliances and that the municipality must take accountability. The community also raised concerns regarding the uneven power supply, were suburbs of the municipality experience fewer hours of load-shedding than rural areas. The municipality stated that the frequent power interruptions are due to old infrastructure at the substation.
  • WELKOM – 08 APR 2022 (00H45) The Police have launched a search operation in Riebeeckstad, Welkom. The search operation has been launched following the discovery of Maleke Rakaki in the Sand River on Wednesday, 23 March 2022. Reports indicate that Rakaki has been missing since Thursday, 17 March 2022. The suspect has allegedly confiscated Rakaki’s motor vehicle. The Police have requested the public to provide any information regarding the suspect’s apprehension.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 08 APR 2022

  • CENTURION – 07 APR 2022 (20H40) Road closure reported on the R114 at Mnandi Spar. The road is closed due to a heavy motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene. Recovery is in progress.
  • RANDBURG – 07 APR 2022 (21H00) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, and EFF Member of Parliament (MP) Mbuyiseni Ndlozi’s hearing is expected to continue at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 06 May 2022. Malema and Ndlozi are facing charges of assault after they allegedly assaulted a Senior Police Officer in uniform in April 2018. They have pleaded not guilty.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 08 APR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the Union Buildings by the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) today, 08 April 2022. The EFFSC members are expected to protest for free education and the resignation of the Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande. The EFFSC members will hand over a memorandum of demands to the Presidency. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes for the duration of the protest. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • SOWETO – 08 APR 2022 (08H20) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on Koma Street/M72 between Chris Hani Road (M68) and Mandlempisi Street. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.  (06H40) Protest reported on Legwale Street in Moletsane, Soweto. Previous demonstrations have been related to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 08 APR 2022

  • ISIPINGO – 07 APR 2022 (19H00) The South African Police Services (SAPS) has announced the results of a recent search operation. SAPS officers, together with members of Metro and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), visited scrap yards in the Isipingo area. Following the visit, SAPS officers arrested several civilians for the unlawful possession of stolen cables in addition to inaccurate information in scrapyard registers.
  • UMLAZI – 08 APR 2022 (08H00) Protest reported at the Old Aiport on Service Road. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with debris. Previous demonstrations in the area have been due to labour-related matters. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 08 APR 2022

  • PHALABORWA – 07 APR 2022 (19H45) The Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality stated that channels excavated by illegal miners in the Lulekani area pose a danger to livestock. This follows the arrest of 17 alleged illegal miners in the area this week, with ten others arrested earlier in March 2022 by the Hawks in Limpopo. Municipal Spokesperson Jonas Mahesu stated that local livestock farmers had raised concerns about the illegal activities taking place at their farms. Mahesu has called on community members to work with the Police and report illegal mining when they become aware of such activities.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 08 APR 2022

  • NELSPRUIT/ MBOMBELA – 07 APR 2022 (20H00) The newly-elected African National Congress (ANC) Provincial Executive Committee in Mpumalanga has appointed the party’s Deputy Provincial Chairperson, Speedy Mashilo, to act as Treasurer. This follows Mandla Msibi’s resignation after his election in last week’s provincial conference. Msibi is facing charges of murder and attempted number. Mashilo will continue to act until Msibi’s court case has been finalised.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 08 APR 2022

  • RUSTENBURG – 08 APR 2022 (08H25) The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is expected to hold its Workers Day Rally on Sunday, 01 May 2022, at the Impala Rugby Stadium. COSATU members are expected to hold a rally to recognise the Union’s achievements. Motorists and members of the public are advised to be vigilant during the rally. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • VENTERSDORP – 08 APR 2022 (08H30) Protest reported at the Municipality offices. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the area with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

  • UPINGTON – 08 APR 2022 (07H50) The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is expected to hold its Workers Day Rally on Sunday, 01 May 2022, at the Dicky Mxolisi Jacobs Stadium. COSATU members are expected to hold a rally to recognise the Union’s achievements. Motorists and members of the public are advised to be vigilant during the rally. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 08 APR 2022

  • KRAAIFONTEIN – 07 APR 2022 (22H20) The Police have launched a search operation in the Kraaifontein, Bloekombos area. This follows after the reported deaths of an expected two taxi operators and the alleged injury of another on Wednesday, 06 April 2022. The Registrar’s Office is expected to hold a meeting with the Belta and Bluata associations regarding the incident and underlying uncertainties. The Police have requested any information from the public regarding the arrest of the suspects.
  • CAPE TOWN – 08 APR 2022 (08H45) Peaceful protest reported outside the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The demonstrators are protesting due to labour-related matters. The demonstrators have blockaded the building. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched.
