SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 08 MAR 2022

  • PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 08 MAR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by the members of The Green Connection today, 08 March 2022, at the Wells Estate Beach from 11H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against offshore oil and gas. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 12H00. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
  • PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 08 MAR 2022 (08H50) The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Patricia de Lille and Minister in the Presidency, Mondli Gugubele, are expected to conduct an oversight visit to the N2 Nodal Development in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality today, 08 March 2022, from 11H30 until 14H00. The N2 Nodal Development forms part of the Infrastructure Investment Plan approved by Cabinet in May 2020 and was gazetted as Strategic Integrated Project 24e in line with the Infrastructure Development Act in July 2020. the Infrastructure Investment Plan forms a central part of the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (ERRP) aimed at stimulating economic growth and job creation, announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa in October 2020. The Infrastructure Investment Plan is highlighted as the flywheel to economic growth Ramaphosa and contains 62 projects across the country in various sectors and from all three spheres of government, state-owned entities and the private sector.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 08 MAR 2022

  • WELKOM – 07 MAR 2022 (19H30) Protest expected in Welkom on Wednesday, 09 March 2022 by taxi operators. Demonstrators will be protesting due to a taxi dispute and deteriorating roads. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police are aware of the situation.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 08 MAR 2022

  • SANDTON – 07 MAR 2022 (19H00) UPDATE Eskom announced that Madupi Unit 3 has broken down. Therefore,  loadshedding will be implemented from 17H00 today, 07 March 2022, until 05H00 on Wednesday, 09 March 2022. This adds to the multiple generating unit failures that occurred in the last 24 hours. (16H15) Eskom announced the implementation of stage two loadshedding from 21H00 till 05H00 today, 07 March 2022, and 21H00 till 05H00 on Tuesday, 08 March 2022. The loadshedding is required for Eskom to replenish the emergency generation reserves. A unit each at Matla, Kendal, Matimba, Kusile and Grootvlei’s power stations tripped while Arnot and Hendrina’s power stations are shut down.
  • ALEXANDRA – 07 MAR 2022 (23H30) Community Members affiliated with the Operation Dudula movement have announced petitioning the Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, to release a forensic audit report on Home Affairs followed by a Court process. This follows a community protest by the members demanding a more significant movement to clean the township and rebuild the economy. Several injuries had been reported.
  • ALEXANDRA – 08 MAR 2022 (09H00) UPDATE Protest reported in Alexandra. The demonstrators have barricaded the area with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.  (07H10) Ten people have been injured following clashes between Dudula Movement and foreign nationals during a march to stop foreigners from trading at the Pan Africa Mall and the Central Business District (CBD) in Alexandra. The foreign nationals resisted attempts to be removed and blocked from trading in the township. The Dudula group has threatened to shut down Alexandra for five days if immigrants are not removed from the township. Police have been deployed to monitor the area and reopen several businesses for trading.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (09H40) The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) is expected to hold a media brief today, 08 March 2022, to outline the course of action that the union will take in defence of workers. This follows after an unlawful decision by the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Johannesburg dismissed over 120 employees.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 08 MAR 2022

  • ESHOWE – 08 MAR 2022 (21H10) Police have announced a search of four male suspects who broke into the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) offices in Eshowe and stole firearms, ammunition and keys to 10 state vehicles. The suspects allegedly held a security guard at gunpoint while breaking into the premises, whereafter they stole 11 firearm safes, five firearms, 135 rounds of ammunition and ten vehicle keys with their respective petrol cards. A business robbery case has been opened.
  • DURBAN – 08 MAR 2022 (04H30) Transnet, the Ports and Rails operator, has announced that it is investigating a fire that erupted at Pier 2 in its Durban terminal on Monday 07 March 2022. This follows two days after a fire incident disrupted operations at the Durban container port. Investigations are ongoing.
  • PIETERMARITZBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (09H30) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the Congress of the South African Trade Unions (COSATU) on Friday, 11 March 2022, at the Provincial Treasury offices from 11H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against a high cost of living related to increased fuel prices, electricity tariffs and toll gate prices. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 08 MAR 2022

  • POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 07 MAR 2022 (21H00) Two suspects have appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today, 07 March 2022, for the illegal trade in narcotics. The suspects have been arrested by members of the Provincial Organized Crime Unit and the Provincial Detectives on Friday, 04 March 2022, after they have been found in possession of narcotics worth R4.2-million. Limpopo Police Spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo stated that the Police are searching for another suspect that allegedly fled the scene during the search operation. Mojapelo stated that investigations indicate that the suppliers are in suburban areas like Bendor and Thornhill. The case has been postponed to 10 March 2022 for a formal bail application.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 08 MAR 2022

  • MIDDELBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (06H10) The new residents forum, known as Dis Nou Genoeg, is expected to apply for an interdict at the Middelburg High Court today 08 March 2022, against the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, resigned Municipal Manager Bheki Khenisa and striking employees. The group will be interdicting the municipality to restore municipal administrative services to the residents of Middelburg. The group will also raise concerns regarding infrastructure damage caused by the strike and a sewer leak that is affecting a local pre-school.
  • DELMAS – 08 MAR 2022 (06H35) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold a 1-million membership recruitment rally at the Victor Khanye Sub-region today, 08 March 2022, at 10H00. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the rally.
  • TEKWANE – 08 MAR 2022 (07H20) Protests reported on Ka Nyamazane Road. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use the N4 as an alternative route. Police have been dispatched.

  • LICHTENBURG – 07 MAR 2022 (19H15) UPDATE The R503 at NWK Grain Silo between Lichtenburg and Coligny has been re-opened to traffic. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (14H00) Road closure reported on the R503 at NWK Grain Silo between Lichtenburg and Coligny. The road is closed due to a heavy motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.
  • HARTBEESPOORT – 08 MAR 2022 (07H30) UPDATE Road closure reported on the R514 due to a protest. Community members are protesting due to land evictions. (06H05) Protest reported on the R514 in the vicinity of Sunway. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 08 MAR 2022

  • PRIESKA – 08 MAR 2022 (08H30) Orion Minerals has announced that it has extended the deadline from Sunday,27 February 2022 to Saturday, 30 April 2022 on a deal to consolidate the ownership of its Jacomynspan Nickel-Copper-PGE Project on its Prieska Copper-Zinc-Project. The extension will allow both parties to discuss a potential expanded and revised transaction where additional Southern African mineral projects will be combined with the Jacomynspan Project. The Jacomynspan Project is situated on the Namaqua and Disawell companies’ mining and prospecting rights and contains a Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves (JORC) compliant, intrusive-hosted, sulphide mineral-copper-platinum group metal resource, which stands at 6.8 million tons of ore, comprising 39,000 tonnes of mineral, 22,000 tons of copper and 1,800 tons of cobalt, drilled between 1971 and 2012.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 08 MAR 2022

  • GEORGE – 07 MAR 2022 (19H45) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Western Cape has called for the prosecution of the former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Keith Jordaan, Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor DL Cronje and his son DL Cronje for allegedly investing R350-million irregularly with Old Mutual. The Public Prosecutor has discovered that the DA Council in the George Municipality has invested funds without following the correct processes. Therefore, the EFF calls on the George Municipality Mayor, Leon van Wyk to investigate the matter and take action.
  • CAPE TOWN – 08 MAR 2022 (06H20) Peaceful protest expected at the Parliament Building today, 08 March 2022, from 12H00 until 14H00 as part of the Women’s Climate Strike. Demonstrators will be protesting in solidarity with International Women’s Day to raise awareness about climate change. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police will be deployed to the area.
