  • PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 08 MAR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by the members of The Green Connection today, 08 March 2022, at the Wells Estate Beach from 11H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against offshore oil and gas. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 12H00. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
  • PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 08 MAR 2022 (17H20) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed on Buick Street in Markman. The road is open to traffic. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (10H15) Protest reported on Buick Street in Markman. Members affiliated with the All Truck Drivers Foundation (ATDF) have blocked trucks. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • PATERSON – 08 MAR 2022 (17H45) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed on the N10 and R342. The road is open to traffic. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Previously, parents have been protesting against the lack of teachers, classrooms and books at Sandulsilwazi High School. (11H20) Protest reported on the intersection of the N10 and R342. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 08 MAR 2022 (18H00) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed at the Bay West Mall. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation. (13H15) The demonstrators have released Minister Patricia de Lille and Mayor Johnson. No injuries have been reported between the officials. Demonstrators have remained outside the mall while the officials have left the area. (12H30) Patricia de Lille and Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Mayor Eugene Johnson have been escorted following failed engagements. Minister de Lille and Mayor Johnson have been trapped inside the mall’s bathroom facilities after being followed by the demonstrators while being escorted. The situation is volatile. (12H15) Protest reported at the Bay West Mall by Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs)  where the Public Works Minister, Patricia de Lille, is expected to get an update on the development. The demonstrators have blockaded the mall and demanded to be addressed by the Minister. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.  (08H50) The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Patricia de Lille and Minister in the Presidency, Mondli Gugubele, are expected to conduct an oversight visit to the N2 Nodal Development in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality today, 08 March 2022, from 11H30 until 14H00. The N2 Nodal Development forms part of the Infrastructure Investment Plan approved by Cabinet in May 2020 and was gazetted as Strategic Integrated Project 24e in line with the Infrastructure Development Act in July 2020. the Infrastructure Investment Plan forms a central part of the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (ERRP) aimed at stimulating economic growth and job creation, announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa in October 2020. The Infrastructure Investment Plan is highlighted as the flywheel to economic growth Ramaphosa and contains 62 projects across the country in various sectors and from all three spheres of government, state-owned entities and the private sector.

  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 08 MAR 2022 (18H00) UPDATE The N1 between Bloemfontein and Trompsburg has been repoened to traffic. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 08 MAR 2022

  • JOHANNESBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (09H40) The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) is expected to hold a media brief today, 08 March 2022, to outline the course of action that the union will take in defence of workers. This follows after an unlawful decision by the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Johannesburg dismissed over 120 employees.
  • CARLETONVILLE – 08 MAR 2022 (11H50) Protest expected by members affiliated with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) on Wednesday, 09 March 2022, at Sibanye Stillwater’s Gold operations. AMCU and NUM members will embark on an industrial action to demand a salary increase of R1,000 per month over the next three years. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • SANDTON – 08 MAR 2022 (12H40) Eskom has announced that stage two of load shedding will be implemented continuously until 05H00 on Saturday, 12 March 2022. Eskom stated that it has returned four generation units to service. However, two units have been taken offline for repairs. Total breakdowns amount to 16 505 megawatts (MW), while planned maintenance is 5 5505 MW of capacity.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (13H00) UPDATE Gautrain Bus Services has been disrupted due to a protest. Members of the public are advised to use alternative transport. (12H40) Protest reported at the Johannesburg Park Station. Gautrain employees are protesting due to the unfair dismissal of a shop steward. The demonstrators have blockaded the area. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • RANDBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (14H45) Cable theft reported in Stormhill industrial. The cables were stolen after the Robertsville substation had been turned off for repair work. The repair work was completed after a fire caused damage to the substation. Technicians are currently replacing the cables.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (15H10) The South African Municipal Worker Union (SAMWU) is expected to take legal action against the Johannesburg Municipality for rescinding the permanent employment of staff. The union stated that it is consulting with lawyers to prevent the decision by the council from going through. The council has directed employees who have been previously employed on a fixed-term basis to present options in how their employment must be regularised. SAMWU Chairperson Esther Mtatyana stated that legal action and strike action will be taken against the city.
  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 08 MAR 2022 (16H00) Driving school owners stated that they will continue to protest at driving license testing stations around Pretoria until their demands are met. Demonstrators are protesting against the online booking system, which aims to cut long queues and eliminate corruption at the centres. Technical issues are adversely affecting clients. Therefore, the driving school owners want to return to the manual system.
  • ALEXANDRA – 08 MAR 2022 (16H45) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed at the Pan Africa Mall. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation. (14H00) Police are attempting to disperse demonstrators at Pan Africa Mall with rubber bullets and stun grenades. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (12H50) Police have restored calm in Alexandra following violent clashes between members of the Dudula movement and foreign nationals. (11H10) A heightened Police visibility reported in the vicinity of the Pan Africa Mall.  (09H00) Protest reported in Alexandra. The demonstrators have barricaded the area with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.  (07H10) Ten people have been injured following clashes between Dudula Movement and foreign nationals during a march to stop foreigners from trading at the Pan Africa Mall and the Central Business District (CBD) in Alexandra. The foreign nationals resisted attempts to be removed and blocked from trading in the township. The Dudula group has threatened to shut down Alexandra for five days if immigrants are not removed from the township. Police have been deployed to monitor the area and reopen several businesses for trading.
  • RANDBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (18H15) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed outside the Randburg Magistrate Court. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (14H15) Peaceful protest reported at the Randburg Magistrate Court by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Demonstrators are protesting against an e-hailing driver accused of sexual assault. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are aware of the situation.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 08 MAR 2022

  • DURBAN – 08 MAR 2022 (04H30) Transnet, the Ports and Rails operator, has announced that it is investigating a fire that erupted at Pier 2 in its Durban terminal on Monday 07 March 2022. This follows two days after a fire incident disrupted operations at the Durban container port. Investigations are ongoing.
  • PIETERMARITZBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (09H30) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the Congress of the South African Trade Unions (COSATU) on Friday, 11 March 2022, at the Provincial Treasury offices from 11H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against a high cost of living related to increased fuel prices, electricity tariffs and toll gate prices. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • DURBAN – 08 MAR 2022 (13H45) Protest expected at the Durban City Hall on Saturday, 19 March 2022. Demonstrators are expected to gather at King Dinuzulu Park and march to City Hall. Demonstrators will be marching in support of the human rights weekend. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police are aware of the protest.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 08 MAR 2022

  • NKOWANKOWA – 08 MAR 2022 (14H30) The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Limpopo held its 8th Provincial Elective Conference today, 08 March 2022, in Nkowankowa. The SACP members have elected Goodman Mtileni as the new Chairperson and Phophi Ramathuba as the Deputy Chairperson. The conference also elected Malebana Chuene and Skinja Ramokumu as Secretary and Deputy Secretary. The new Treasurer of the party is Mavhungu Ramakhanya.
  • MUSINA – 08 MAR 2022 (16H30) The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) took legal action against Magwa Construction and Profteam CC to recover money from the R40-million Beitbridge border fence project. The SIU and Department of Public Works and Infrastructure have been ordered to appoint a qualified expert to compile a report of the two companies’ expenses and file it with the Special Tribunal. In addition, the Special Tribunal ordered the companies to pay back profits earned within 30 days of submitting the income and expenditure report. This follows after Magwa Construction received R21-million and ProfTeam CC R1.8-million in advance to construct the Beitbridge border fence. The fence delivered to the Department has been poorly built and of low quality.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 08 MAR 2022

  • MIDDELBURG – 08 MAR 2022 (06H10) The new residents forum, known as Dis Nou Genoeg, is expected to apply for an interdict at the Middelburg High Court today 08 March 2022, against the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, resigned Municipal Manager Bheki Khenisa and striking employees. The group will be interdicting the municipality to restore municipal administrative services to the residents of Middelburg. The group will also raise concerns regarding infrastructure damage caused by the strike and a sewer leak that is affecting a local pre-school.
  • DELMAS – 08 MAR 2022 (06H35) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold a 1-million membership recruitment rally at the Victor Khanye Sub-region today, 08 March 2022, at 10H00. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the rally.
  • TEKWANE – 08 MAR 2022 (18H15) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed on Ka Nyamazane Road. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 08 MAR 2022

  • PRIESKA – 08 MAR 2022 (08H30) Orion Minerals has announced that it has extended the deadline from Sunday, 27 February 2022 to Saturday, 30 April 2022 on a deal to consolidate the ownership of its Jacomynspan Nickel-Copper-PGE Project on its Prieska Copper-Zinc-Project. The extension will allow both parties to discuss a potential expanded and revised transaction where additional Southern African mineral projects will be combined with the Jacomynspan Project. The Jacomynspan Project is situated on the Namaqua and Disawell companies’ mining and prospecting rights and contains a Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves (JORC) compliant, intrusive-hosted, sulphide mineral-copper-platinum group metal resource, which stands at 6.8 million tons of ore, comprising 39,000 tonnes of mineral, 22,000 tons of copper and 1,800 tons of cobalt, drilled between 1971 and 2012.
