SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 10 MAR 2022

  • BISHO – 09 MAR 2022 (19H40) Community healthcare workers have raised concerns at the Eastern Cape Department of Health regarding their contracts that are expected to expire at the end of March 2022. A group of 600 workers accused the Department of breaching an agreement. The agreement included a four years services contract of community service after completing training. The Director of Labour Relations at the Department of Health, Bongani Lose, stated that the Department does not have funds to extend the contracts.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 10 MAR 2022

  • HARRISMITH – 10 MAR 2022 (04H15) Road closure reported on the N3 between Harrismith and Swinburne. The road is closed due to a heavy motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 10 MAR 2022

  • MAGALIESBURG – 09 MAR 2022 (19H00) Road closure reported on the R24 between Super Spar and Happy Acres. The road is closed due to a motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene. Recovery is in progress.
  • ROODEPOORT – 10 MAR 2022 (07H20) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the General Industries Workers Union of South Africa (GIWUSA) and the Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU) today, 10 March 2022, at the Clover Head Office from 09H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest ahead of the Isreal Clover owners, who are expected to visit the Head office. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 10 MAR 2022 (08H10) Protest expected by the members of the Forgotten Nation on Wednesday, 06 April 2022 at the Department of Employment and Labour. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the corner of Kgosi Mampuru Street and Madiba Street. The demonstrators are expected to protest against ageism and demand job creation. The demonstrators will be submitting a Memorandum of Demands (MoD) and Organisational Projects plans for job creation.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 10 MAR 2022 (09H35) Protest expected at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital today, 10 March 2022. The employees led by the Medical Advisory Committee are expected to protest against the termination of 819 COVID-19 medical staff. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 10 MAR 2022

  • DURBAN – 09 MAR 2022 (20H00) Spillage reported in the Meul River between the east coast city of Durban and Heidelberg. This follows after suspects attempted to steal fuel from a South African pipeline by tampering with a block-valve chamber. Environmental teams have been dispatched to the scene to contain the diesel spillage that flowed into the Meul River

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 10 MAR 2022

  • POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 09 MAR 2022 (20H30) Limpopo Premier Chupu Mathabatha is expected to host an Education Indaba on Thursday, 10 March 2022. The event will be held under the theme, moving Limpopo towards educational excellence. The event aims to interrogate the declining direction in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) performance.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 10 MAR 2022

  • MATSULU – 10 MAR 2022 (08H30) The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR), under the stewardship of Transport Deputy Minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga, and the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works Roads and Transport, Mohita Latchminarain, are expected to address on rail safety today, 10 March 2022, at the Matsulu Community Hall from 09H00. The RSR has identified three schools, Sehlulile Primary, Takheleni Primary, and Sibusisiwe High, as befitting schools to benefit from the campaign in the area as they are near the Matsulu rail line, which is 202 Kilometres (km) starting from Kaapmuiden ending at Phalaborwa. Upon engagement with the schools, it was discovered that two of the schools have previously had learners hit by trains on the same line.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 10 MAR 2022

  • POTCHEFSTROOM – 10 MAR 2022 (03H45) The Former African National Congress (ANC)  member of Parliament (MP) Nono Maloyi has been nominated by his branch in Tlokwe, Potchefstroom, to contest the ANC provincial chairperson position in North West. The provincial ANC is expected to hold an elective conference on 18 March 2022 to rebuild the party structures.
  • BLOEMHOF – 10 MAR 2022 (09H20) The Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Development Model Champion,  Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, Makhotso Sotyu, is expected to host a Pre-Presidential Imbizo today, 10 March 2022, from 10H00 at the Perfecting Grace International Church. Sotyu will hola a community stakeholder engagement in Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality as a build-up towards the Presidential Imbizo.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 10 MAR 2022

  • VICTORIA WEST – 09 MAR 2022 (21H00) Peaceful protest expected at the Ubuntu Local Municipality on Friday, 11 March 2022, by parents of the Victoria West Combined School. Parents are expected to march from Victoria West Combined School to the Municipality building. Parents have raised concerns regarding the shortage of teachers at the school. Parents demand that the school return to daily classes for all learners. Parents stated that their children will not return to school until their demands are met. In addition, there is currently a shortage of classrooms for the 600 learners attending the school. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest.
  • JAN KEMPDORP – 09 MAR 2022 (22H35)  The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) announced that three South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers are facing charges of bodily harm malicious damage to property and common assault. This comes after allegedly assaulting a police officer in October 2021 in Jan Kempdorp. NPA Spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane stated that the three SANDF members are also facing a further charge of contravention of the disaster management act. The soldiers are expected to appear in the Jan Kempdorp Magistrate’s court on 30 March 2022.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 10 MAR 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 09 MAR 2022 (23H00) The City of Cape Town (CPT) Law enforcement has announced a plan to use drones technology to combat crime and vandalism in several communities across the Metro. This follows the ongoing destruction of essential infrastructures and disruption of service deliveries. The technology is expected to assist in keeping the residents safer in the city.
  • BEAUFORT WEST – 10 MAR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by the members of the Green Connection today, 10 March 2022, on the N1 in the vicinity of the DIY Depo from  10H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against offshore oil and gas. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 12H00. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
  • CAPE TOWN – 10 MAR 2022 (06H05) Protest expected by the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Congress of Democratic Taxi Associations (CODETA) women’s forum today, 10 March 2022, at the Office of the Premier from 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against unfair taxi impoundment by traffic officers. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demands. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
