• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 10 MAY 2022 (06H00) Peaceful protest expected on Saturday, 21 May 2022, at Hobie Beach from 11H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest as part of the World Wide Rally for Freedom movement against COVID-19 vaccinations and passports and to call for an end to COVID-19 lockdown measures, among other reasons. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 10 MAY 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 10 MAY 2022 (07H50) The Free State High Court is expected to resume the trial of the murder case against Stanley Bakili today, 10 May 2022. Bakili shot and killed a businessman, Louis Siemens, in 2018 at Preller Square’s parking area. Bakili and five suspects, including a South African Police Service (SAPS) officer and a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) member, will be cross-examined by the court.

• SANDTON – 10 MAY 2022 (08H50) The African National Congress (ANC) in the Johannesburg Region is expected to hold its 15th Regional Conference from Friday, 13 May 2022, until Sunday, 15 May 2022, at the Cedar Woods Hotel.
• SANDTON – 10 MAY 2022 (11H00) Eskom has announced that stage 2 of loadshedding will be implemented from today, 10 May 2022, from 17H00 until 22H00, with the possibility of higher stages should any breakdowns occur during the day. A generation unit each at the Kusile and Arnot power stations is expected to return to service today, 10 May 2022.
• VANDERBIJLPARK – 10 MAY 2022 (12H00) Protest expected by members affiliated with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) at the ArcelorMittal South Africa in Vanderbijlpark on Wednesday, 11 May 2022, from 10H00. The NUMSA members are expected to protest to demand 10% wage increases, housing allowance, 80% medical aid contribution from the employer and the removal of Labour Brokers and insourcing of temporary employees. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 12H00. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 10 MAY 2022 (12H10) Protest expected by members affiliated with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) at the ArcelorMittal South Africa in Pretoria on Wednesday, 11 May 2022, from 10H00. The NUMSA members are expected to protest to demand 10% wage increases, housing allowance, 80% medical aid contribution from the employer and the removal of Labour Brokers and insourcing of temporary employees. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 12H00. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• TEMBISA – 10 MAY 2022 (14H00) Protest reported at the intersection near Makhulong Park in Tembisa. Residents are protesting due to poor service delivery regarding electricity supply. Demonstrators are barricading the roads with burning tyres and debris. The situation is volatile. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
• JOHANNESBURG – 10 MAY 2022 (14H50) The African National Congress (ANC) in Greater Johannesburg has confirmed that former Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Moerane has been hospitalised following a motor vehicle accident. Spokesperson Sasabona Manganye stated that Moerane is in critical condition. However, he is stable and receiving medical attention in the hospital.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 10 MAY 2022 (15H50) The Tshwane Bus Service operations have been disrupted this afternoon, 10 May 2022. This follows after South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) affiliated bus drivers embarked on a strike. Commuters have been advised to use alternative transport.
• JOHANNESBURG – 10 MAY 2022 (16H30) Healthcare workers who were contracted for COVID-19 at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg stated that they have not been paid for the month of April 2022. This follows after workers received a letter stating that there will be a delay in creating positions for the additional employees, which is affecting the payment of 91 employees. Human Resources is currently attending to the matter and will communicate progress.
• CENTURION – 10 MAY 2022 (17H30) Protest reported on the R55 and Stone Ridge Boulevard in Monavoni, Centurion. Community members are protesting due to cable theft and power outages. Demonstrators are barricading the road. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• JOHANNESBURG – 10 MAY 2022 (18H00) UPDATE The Johannesburg High Court has postponed the case to 28 July 2022. The pre-sentencing proceedings, which were scheduled for today, 10 May 2022, could not continue as the accused had requested to bring in his own probation officer.(08H50) Protest reported outside the Johannesburg High Court. Anti Gender-Based Violence (GBV) activists are protesting in demand of justice for Tshegofatso Pule, who was killed by Ntuthuko Shoba. The High Court is expected to resume with the sentencing proceedings against Shoba. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the court. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

• VERULAM – 10 MAY 2022 (07H25) UPDATE Road closure on Old Inanda Road/M27 due to ongoing protest. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (06H40) Protest reported in Redcliffe towards Buffelsdaai. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• TONGAAT – 10 MAY 2022 (09H00) Protest reported on the R102 in the vicinity of Usave in Fairbreeze. The Qwabe community of eNkwenkwezini are marching to the Tongaat Hulett Sugar Maidstone Mill. The demonstrators are protesting due to the Makhosi Khosi Communal Trust that the Government has mismanaged, which has resulted in the community not having access to their ancestral land. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

• DUTYWA – 10 MAY 2022 (14H20) Protest expected in Dutywa by the Rural Development Council (RDC) on Friday, 13 May 2022. This follows after the RDC have written letters to the Municipality regarding the poor road infrastructure. The Municipality failed to respond to the letters. The RDC is calling on the community to shut down all roads in Dutywa. Motorists are advised to avoid Dutywa on Friday. Police will be deployed to monitor the protest.
• HAMMARSDALE – 10 MAY 2022 (15H30) Police have launched an investigation into the shooting that occurred on Sibis Road in Hammarsdale today, 10 May 2022. A security guard at a school has been shot and injured. Emergency care practitioners stabilised the security guard and transported him to the nearest hospital. The suspects fled the scene. This incident follows an increase in security guards and Police officers that have been killed in KwaZulu-Natal recently.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 10 MAY 2022
• BELA BELA – 10 MAY 2022 (16H10) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo is calling on the Labour Department to increase resources at its regional office in Bela-Bela. The community have raised concerns over long queues in the waiting area, without shade and chairs available. The office has a shortage of personnel, and the landline is ineffective. There are only two employees assigned to assist more than 500 people per day. The Spokesperson for the Department of Labour, Lerato Mashamba, stated that the long queues are caused by clients with enquiries and those who are failing to access the Social Relief of Distress grant.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 10 MAY 2022
• WITBANK/EMALAHLENI – 10 MAY 2022 (06H20) The Witbank/Emalahleni South African Police Services (SAPS) has announced that the N12 route and R544 route between Tasbet Park and Duvha Park are open for traffic flow following protests held on Monday, 09 May 2022. Residents within the area engaged with the Management of Thungela Resources Global Shared Services and issued the management 48 hours to minimise the impact of toxic fumes caused by illegal mining activities, which has affected the Duvha Park, El Paso settlements, Tasbet Park, Reyno Ridge and Ben Fleur. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. The situation remains volatile. Police are monitoring the area.
• ELANDSHOEK – 10 MAY 2022 (13H45) Road closure reported on the N4 between Elandshoek and Montrose Falls. The road is closed for scheduled blasting. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
• NELSPRUIT/ MBOMBELA – 10 MAY 2022 (15H20) Newly elected African National Congress (ANC) Mpumalanga Chairman Mandla Ndlovu has been appointed Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) by Premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane.

• MAHIKENG – 10 MAY 2022 (06H30) Unrest expected today, 10 May 2022, Mahikeng. Residents are expected to embark on a shutdown against the high crime rate in the area due to Mapontero gang members. • KLERKSDORP – 10 MAY 2022 (06H40) Protest expected by Students of Vuselela TVET college, Jouberton Campus today, 10 May 2022. The students are expected to gather at Jouberton Libary from 08H00 and march to the campus. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demands and demand the removal of the Student Representative Council (SRC) Chairperson. • CAPE TOWN – 10 MAY 2022 (08H30) Train derailment reported between Maitland train station and Woltemade train station due to a veld fire that damaged fibre lines resulting in a telecommunications breakdown. No injuries have been reported. Trains are expected to operate Fish Hoek and Mowbray. The service recovery process is underway.
• DE DOORNS – 10 MAY 2022 (14H45) Looting reported on the N1 in De Doorns. Residents looted a still standing truck and continued to loot another truck in the traffic. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
