SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 11 APR 2022

  • EAST LONDON – 11 APR 2022 (07H30) Protest expected at the East London Magistrate Court today, 11 April 2022, from 08H30. The demonstrators are expected to protest in solidarity with Sibongile Mani. Sibongile is expected to appear in court to appeal her conviction and sentence against her case of theft of National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funds. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • EAST LONDON – 11 APR 2022 (08H45) Protest reported on Ziphunzana Bypass. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Previous demonstrations have been related to poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • NGCOBO – 11 APR 2022 (16H00) Protest expected at the Engcobo Municipality on 20 April 2022. Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Independent South African National Civic Organization and community members will be protesting due to service delivery and labour related challenges. Demonstrators are expected to gather at the Old Mthatha Taxi Rank from 07H00. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are aware of the planned protest.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 11 APR 2022

  • VIRGINIA – 11 APR 2022 (18H00) Police have launched a search operation for suspects in connection with a business robbery in Virginia. Four suspects overpowered employees and robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones. Police are investigating the matter.

  • BOKSBURG – 11 APR 2022 (06H00) The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) is expected to hold its National Bargaining Conference (NBC) today, 11 April 2022, until Wednesday, 13 April 2022, at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre from 09H00. The meeting will be held to prepare and consolidate demands from all the different sectors that the union is organised in as part of preparations for wage talks. The conference will focus on Motor, Tyre, Auto, Infrastructure, Bus, Aviation, Eskom, Rotek, Road Accident Fund (RAF), Comair, Catering, Security and House Agreements.
  • CARLETONVILLE – 11 APR 2022 (07H10) The Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi, is expected to visit Sibanye Stillwater today, 11 April 2022, from 09H00. The visit will be part of efforts to forge and strengthen a public/ private partnership in resolving the Human Settlements challenges within the mining communities.
  • KEMPTON PARK – 11 APR 2022 (08H00) Armed robbery reported at Barloworld Equipment on Electron Avenue in Isando. Reports indicate that six unidentified suspects restrained security officers and employees during the robbery. No injuries and fatalities have been reported. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • TEMBISA – 11 APR 2022 (11H00) Protest expected by residents of Tembisa on Wednesday, 13 April 2022, from 09H00. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Mehlareng grounds and the Makhulong Stadium. The demonstrators will march to the Rabasotho Customer Care Centre (CCC). The demonstrators are expected to protest against high electricity rates, poor service delivery, demand localised employment, and write off all past debts and R300 flat rate. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • KRUGERSDORP – 11 APR 2022 (16H20) Armed robbery reported at Capitec Bank in the Key West Shopping Centre. Several suspects attempted to rob the bank. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene, investigating the matter.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 11 APR 2022 (17H50) Agriculture Minister Thoko Didiza announced that foot-and-mouth disease had been confirmed in five provinces across the country. At least 56 cases of the infectious disease have been detected amongst farm animals in Gauteng, Limpopo, Free State, North West, and KwaZulu-Natal. Several towns, districts, and municipalities have been named as hot spots, with the situation in North West of particular concern. The Limpopo Police have arrested a suspect who has transported goats from a cluster affected by the foot-and-mouth disease to an area free of the disease.
  • SOWETO – 11 APR 2022 (18H20) Protest reported on Modjadji Road and parts of Chris Hani Road in Pimville. Demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. Residents are protesting due to power outages in the area. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
  • SOWETO – 11 APR 2022 (18H30) Protest reported on Union Road in Eldorado Park. Demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. Residents are protesting due to power outages in the area. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police are on the scene.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 11 APR 2022

  • EMPANGENI – 11 APR 2022 (08H00) Protest reported on the R34 towards Empangeni Milling. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • AMANZIMTOTI – 11 APR 2022 (11H05) Flooding reported in the Central Business District (CBD) of Amanzimtoti due to heavy rain. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.
  • DURBAN – 11 APR 2022 (14H30) Road closure reported on the M4 between La Mercy and Desainager. The road is closed due to a mudslide. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
  • PIETERMARITZBURG – 11 APR 2022 (14H45) UPDATE Judge Piet Koen has ruled that the corruption trial must be adjourned pending Zuma’s reconsideration application before the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA). The trial has been postponed to 17 May 2022 as the holding date is pending the SCA outcome. Zuma is not present in court due to ill health that came up on Sunday, 10 April 2022. Doctors have advised Zuma that he is not fit to be in court. (06H05) Former President Jacob Zuma is expected to appear at the Pietermaritzburg High Court today, 11 April 2022. The high court is expected to begin with the Zuma’s trial. Zuma and French arms company Thales, face several charges, including fraud, racketeering and money laundering, linked to the multibillion-rand Strategic Defence Procurement Packages (SDPP). Authorities have announced that road closures are expected in the vicinity of the High court from today, 11 April 2022, until Thursday, 14 April 2022, from 06H00. The following areas will be affected  Church Street between A.S. Chetty Building and Otto Street,  Old Market Street, Boshoff Street and  Pietermaritz Street. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • DURBAN – 11 APR 2022 (16H10) Armed robbery reported at Pep Cell on Victoria Road in Durban Central Business District. Two suspects robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of money and items. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
  • DURBAN – 11 APR 2022 (16H30) UPDATE Motorists are advised to avoid Inanda Road in Newlands, Caversham Road and Stapleton Road in Pinetown. Residents in Umhloti have been advised to evacuate due to a mudslide. (14H00) Flooding reported in parts of Durban today, 11 April 2022. Roads affected include the R102/ Chris Hani Road at the Mimosa Road intersection in Park Hill, Jan Smuts Highway/ M10 at the 45th Avenue intersection in Sherwood and the M13 in Fields Hill. The flooding is due to heavy rain in the area. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 11 APR 2022

  • PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 11 APR 2022 (09H30) The Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, John Mpe, has announced that the municipality is expected to speed up the completion of the Ladanna and Seshego water treatment plants as part of the municipality’s immediate intervention to address water challenges experienced in the city of Polokwane and surrounding areas. Mpe stated that the completion of the two water treatment plants will increase the capacity of the treatment plants to produce extra megalitres of water per day for the city. Mpe added that the municipality is expected to be part of implementing agents of water projects in the province as opposed to Lepelle Northern Water being the only implementing agent, and the municipality is consulting on establishing the municipality’s entity, called Polokwane Water.
  • LEPHALALE – 11 APR 2022 (18H30) Eskom announced the implementation of stage 2 loadshedding with immediate effect. This follows after Unit 5 of Medupi Power Station has tripped.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 11 APR 2022

  • MANANGA – 11 APR 2022 (02H30) Protest expected at the Mananga border post between Lubombo, eSwatini and Mpumalanga, South Africa, from 09H00 on Tuesday, 19 April 2022, by members of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Swaziland (EFFSWA). Demonstrators are expected to protest in demand for democratic reforms and the release of political prisoners in eSwatini. Motorists are advised of potential ground travel disruptions during the demonstration. Authorities are expected to be deployed in the area during the event.
  • MATLA – 11 APR 2022 (16H45) Eskom announced that the power generation system is constrained. Four generation units experienced breakdowns, while the return to service of two other units has been delayed. This, together with the inclement weather, which has increased the demand for electricity, has placed the system under pressure. The Matla and Kriel Power Stations and two generating units at Camden Power Station experienced breakdowns. A generating unit each at the Tutuka and Matla Power Stations have been delayed from returning to service.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 11 APR 2022

  • MAHIKENG – 11 APR 2022 (06H20) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members on Wednesday, 13 April 2022, at the  Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) from 09H00 and Premier’s office from 13H00. The EFF members are expected to protest against police brutality, community safety and service delivery in the province. The demonstrators are expected to deliver a memorandum of demand at the offices. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • SWARTRUGGENS – 11 APR 2022 (12H15) UPDATE Police have dispersed the demonstrations. The road has been reopened for traffic flow. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.  (07H40) Protest reported on the N4 in the vicinity of Moedwil Combined School. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 11 APR 2022

  • DANIELSKUIL – 11 APR 2022 (09H20) The Department of Roads and Public Works has announced that the R31 road in the vicinity of Danielskuil T-junction remains closed for repair work to continue. The Department Spokesperson, Crystal Robertson, stated that the department is completing the final layer of the section, which was previously damaged and flooded. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 11 APR 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 11 APR 2022 (08H30) The City of Cape Town (COCT) has announced that the Municipality is expected to conduct routine maintenance on electrical infrastructure from today, 11 April 2022, until Sunday, 17 April 2022, from 06H00 until 16H00. The maintenance is expected to allow the municipality time to plan for the outage and allow our teams sufficient time to complete the required maintenance tasks. The areas that will be affected by the routine electricity supply interruptions due to necessary maintenance are Bellville, Wynberg, Somerset West, Claremont, Milnerton, De Tijger, Gardens, Tafelsig, Strand, Constantia, Sybrand Park. Epping and Century City. The Municipality stated that updates will be provided to the public as the situation progresses.
  • LAINGSBURG – 11 APR 2022 (15H15) The Patriotic Alliance President, Gayton Mckenzie, has been elected as the Mayor of Central Karoo District. This follows after Mckenzie was sworn in as a Councillor of the Laingsburg Municipality last week, replacing Councillor Mitchell Smith.
  • CAPE TOWN – 11 APR 2022 (17H30) Eskom has connected residents in the Delft area to the power grid today, 11 April 2022. Eskom and residents held a ceremony at the local Zoe Church. Technicians connected 133 of the 181 residences within seven months. Eskom is working on a phased approach as it could not switch all the residences on at once. Technicians will continue to work on connecting the other residences.
