SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 11 MAR 2022

  • CRADOCK – 10 MAR 2022 (19H00) Road closure reported on the N10 between Cradock and Cookhouse. The road is closed due to a heavy motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.
  • PORT ST JOHNS – 11 MAR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by the members of the Green Connection today, 11 March 2022, at the Umngazi Beach from 11H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against offshore oil and gas. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 14H00. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 11 MAR 2022

  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 10 MAR 2022 (20H45) The African National Congress (ANC) in the Caleb Motshabi and Phomolong informal settlements held a meeting to discuss residents’ dissatisfaction regarding an incumbent ward councillor. The residents have raised concerns regarding assurances made that has not been fulfilled. Residents are threatening to barricade the R702, which separates  Caleb Motshabi and Klipfontein if their demands are not met. Police are monitoring the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 11 MAR 2022

  • JOHANNESBURG – 10 MAR 2022 (19H15) UPDATE Immigration officers and Police held an operation against illegal foreign nationals in Alexandra today, 10 March 2022. Police have arrested approximately 30 illegal nationals at Waltloo stores. Motorists are advised to be vigilant in the area. (17H45) Unrest reported in Johannesburg Central Business District. Community members are attempting to close businesses owned by foreign nationals. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. A heightened Police presence is reported.
  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 10 MAR 2022 (19H30) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to host Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Friday, 11 March 2022, as part of a working visit. The visit is expected to strengthen mutual, regional and continental co-operation between the two nations. President Nyusi will be attending the third session of the Binational Commission of Co-operation between the two countries. The two parties are also expected to share views on regional, continental and global issues of mutual interest, particularly peace, security and economic development matters.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 10 MAR 2022 (20H00) President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo as the next Chief Justice of South Africa with effect from 01 April 2022. The President’s decision follows consultation with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and leaders of parties in the National Assembly on the four nominees for appointment as Chief Justice. Zondo was shortlisted with judges Mbuyiseli Madlanga, Mandisa Maya and Dunston Mlambo.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 10 MAR 2022 (20H00) The six Operation Dudula members arrested at the Pan Africa Mall are expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrate Court on Thursday, 17 March 2021. The suspects will be afforded the opportunity to apply for bail. A protest is expected at the court during the hearing. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 10 MAR 2022 (21H45) The Department of  Transport has appointed a new International Air Services Licencing Council (IASLC). This comes a year after the previous board was dissolved in March 2021. The IASLC is responsible for awarding and revoking traffic rights to airlines based in the country. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA), Aaron Munetsi, stated that the 12-month backlog would need to be prioritised considering that it held back South Africa’s airlines and prevented them from delivering the economic and social benefits that air connectivity provides by facilitating trade, tourism, and travel. The councils’ resumption is expected to alleviate the country’s travel and tourism sector as it seeks to reconstruct following the COVID-19 pandemic and associated restrictions.
  • SANDTON – 11 MAR 2022 (06H00) The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Transport, Funzi Ngobeni, has announced that the City of Johannesburg and Taxi operators will sign three agreements to implement Phase 1C (a) of Rea Vaya today, 11 March 20222 from 10H00 until 11H00 at Indaba Hotel. The agreements will be entered into between the City and two Alexandra taxi associations, Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand, Sandton Taxi Association (ARMSTA) as well as Alexandra Taxi Association (ATA), for the implementation of Rea Vaya Phase 1C (a) – a new route that will connect Rea Vaya Phase 1A and 1B from the Johannesburg CBD to Alexandra, Greenstone and Sandton.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 11 MAR 2022

  • HILTON – 11 MAR 2022 (04H50) UPDATE The N3 ramp to Cedara has been re-opened to traffic. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (04H00) Road closure reported on the N3 near the ramp to Cedara. The road is closed due to a motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.
  • PIETERMARITZBURG – 11 MAR 2022 (06H05) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the Congress of the South African Trade Unions (COSATU) today, 11 March 2022, at the Provincial Treasury offices from 11H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against a high cost of living related to increased fuel prices, electricity tariffs and toll gate prices. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • PIETERMARITZBURG – 11 MAR 2022 (06H40) Protest reported on Sweetwaters Main Road. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 11 MAR 2022

  • TSHILAMBA – 11 MAR 2022 (08H00) The Mutale Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case of the Executive Mayor of Musina, Godrey Mawela, to Friday, 29 April 2022. Mawela has been charged with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The charges follow after Mawela’s involvement in an altercation with Muswodi-Dipeni village on Saturday, 26 February 2022,  with Carris Munzhelele.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 11 MAR 2022

  • SECUNDA – 10 MAR 2022 (19H10) Police have warned motorists to be vigilant on Helen Joseph Drive near Albany Bakery on the road between Secunda and Trichardt. Criminal activity has been reported on the road. Motorists are advised to keep windows closed and doors locked when approaching the traffic lights.
  • WITBANK/EMALAHLENI – 11 MAR 2022 (06H15) UPDATE Police have dispersed demonstrations. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. The situation remains volatile.  (05H40) Protest reported on the R544. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The road has been closed for traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 11 MAR 2022

  • KLERKSDORP – 10 MAR 2022 (21H00) Suspect Agrinath Maluli has appeared at the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court today, 10 March 2022, for being in possession of unwrought gold. This follows after Maluli has been arrested in Khuma in June 2021. The Illicit Mining Task Team followed up on information and found unwrought gold worth approximately R650,000. Maluli made a series of court appearances and later pleaded guilty, resulting in her sentence of an R100,000 fine or five years imprisonment, as well as a further five years imprisonment.
  • RUSTENBURG – 10 MAR 2022 (23H25) Sibanye-Stillwater spokesperson James Wellsted has announced that the corporation has suspended operations at all the mines and employees, excluding priority services. This follows after the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) served Sibanye with an industrial action notice. The unions are demanding a salary increase of R1,000 per month over the next three years.
  • KLERKSDORP – 11 MAR 2022 (08H40) Protest reported on R503 between Klerksdorp and Hartbeesfontein at the Jakaranda Informal Settlement. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 11 MAR 2022

  • VICTORIA WEST – 11 MAR 2022 (06H10) Peaceful protest expected at the Ubuntu Local Municipality today, 11 March 2022, by parents of the Victoria West Combined School. Parents are expected to march from Victoria West Combined School to the Municipality building. Parents have raised concerns regarding the shortage of teachers at the school. Parents demand that the school return to daily classes for all learners. Parents stated that their children will not return to school until their demands are met. In addition, there is currently a shortage of classrooms for the 600 learners attending the school. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 11 MAR 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 10 MAR 2022 (20H30) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to face the first vote of no confidence on Wednesday, 30 March 2022. The Cabinet will also face a vote of no confidence when separate motions tabled by the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African Transformation Movement (ATM) are debated in the same sitting.
  • CAPE TOWN – 10 MAR 2022 (20H30) The African Transformation Movement (ATM) is expected to approach the Western Cape High Court to interdict the open ballot vote regarding its motion of no confidence against President Cyril Ramaphosa. The ATM has rejected National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s decision not to allow a secret ballot when voting takes place on 30 March 2022. The court action comes after Mapisa-Nqakula set a date for the debate and voting process of the motion today, 10 March 2022.
  • KHAYELITSHA – 11 MAR 2022 (04H30) Protest reported on Mew Way/M44 and the N2. The demonstrators are protesting due to service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres. The road has been closed for traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • CAPE TOWN – 11 MAR 2022 (09H00) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are expected to hold the Langa Massacre Commemoration Rally on Monday, 21 March 2022, at the Langa High School from 12H00. The EFF National Chairperson, Veronica Mente, is expected to address during the rally.
