SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 12 APR 2022

  • PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 11 APR 2022 (20H30) The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality announced a 48-hour water supply interruption from 08H00 on Tuesday, 12 April 2022. The time will be used for emergency repairs on the Summit pipeline. Supply reservoirs will be filled during the night to minimise the possibility of storage levels depleting. Areas that may experience low water pressure or disruptions include KwaNobuhle and the direct offtakes from the Loerie bulk pipeline.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 12 APR 2022

  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 11 APR 2022 (20H40) Flooding reported on the R64 between Bloemfontein and Krugerdrift Dam. The flooding is due to heavy rain in the area. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 12 APR 2022 (08H55) Premier, Sisi Ntombela, is expected to deliver the Departmental Budget Vote Speech for 2022/23 today, 12 April 2022, from 09H00 at the Fourth Raadsaal. Ntombela is expected to respond to and address residents’ concerns during her 2022/23 budget speech.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 12 APR 2022

  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 11 APR 2022 (19H00) Cash in transit (CIT) robbery reported on the R104 in the vicinity of the Nkomo Shopping Centre, Atteridgeville, Pretoria West. Reports indicate that an unknown number of armed suspects have bombed a CIT money truck. Sporadic shooting has also been reported in the vicinity of the robbery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Authorities have been dispatched to the scene.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 12 APR 2022 (06H10) Protest expected at the Department of National Treasury and the Department of Employment and Labour today, 12 April 2022. Former City of Tshwane Waste Management employees will be protesting for their reinstatement. The demonstrators will gather from 10H00 at the open space in Madiba Street and Kgosi Mampuru Street. From the open space, demonstrators will join Madiba Street and proceed straight to the Department of National Treasury. From the Department of Treasury, demonstrators will turn right at Thabo Sehume Street, then right at Pretorius Street, left at Paul Kruger Street, and turn left at Francis Baard Street to reach the Department of Employment and Labour. The streets that will be affected include Kgosi Mampuru Street, Sophie de Bruyn Street, Bosman Street, Paul Kruger Street, Thabo Sehume Street, Helen Joseph Street, Pretorius Street and Francis Baard Street. Demonstrators are expected to disperse from the Department of National Treasury at 11H30 and at the Department of Employment and Labour at 13H30. Tshwane Metro Police officers will be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the march.
  • SOWETO – 12 APR 2022 (06H20) Protest reported on the M77 in the vicinity of Tshepo Themba Hospital. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • GERMISTON – 12 APR 2022 (07H20) Protest reported on Forsdick Road at York Timbers. The demonstrators are protesting due to labour-related matters. The demonstrators have blockaded the area. SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 12 APR 2022

  • DURBAN – 11 APR 2022 (19H00) UPDATE Road closure reported on the R620 in Central Margate Area, Umhlatazana Road between Tshelimnyama Road and Abbot Francis Road and Manor Highway in Stanger. (16H30) Motorists are advised to avoid Inanda Road in Newlands, Caversham Road and Stapleton Road in Pinetown. Residents in Umhloti have been advised to evacuate due to a mudslide. (14H00) Flooding reported in parts of Durban today, 11 April 2022. Roads affected include the R102/ Chris Hani Road at the Mimosa Road intersection in Park Hill, Jan Smuts Highway/ M10 at the 45th Avenue intersection in Sherwood and the M13 in Fields Hill. The flooding is due to heavy rain in the area. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
  • DURBAN – 11 APR 2022 (23H00) The Mondi Paper Mill in Merebank, Sapref, Durban, has been evacuated following excessive flooding resulting from the overflow of a nearby canal. This follows excessive rainfall throughout the province. Significant damage has been recorded at the paper mill due to the flooding. Further assessments regarding the matter are underway.
  • DURBAN – 11 APR 2022 (23H10) Flooding reported in the vicinity of Valleyview Place in Outer West Durban. Reports indicate that the river is flooding over into the neighbouring residential area. Residents are evacuating from the neighbourhood. This follows persistent rainfall being experienced across the country. Motorists are advised to avoid affected areas.
  • DURBAN – 11 APR 2022 (23H40) The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an Orange Level 8 Warning for disruptive rainfall and flooding conditions across the KwaZulu-Natal province. The statement indicates that a cut-off low-pressure weather system is currently situated over the country’s eastern region, and a surface low is located to the east along the coastal area, advecting low-level moisture and resulting in torrential rainfall over the south-east parts of the province tomorrow, 12 April 2022. Significant amounts of rainfall have been recorded in most regions along the south coast, and additional rainfall is expected throughout 12 April 2022. Widespread flooding is also ongoing and expected to worsen as the situation persists over the south-eastern parts of the province. The eThekwini Municipality has opened several community halls to accommodate residents affected by the floods. Additional response efforts are underway. Motorists are advised to avoid travelling.
  • DURBAN – 12 APR 2022 (03H00) Flooding reported at the Viranna’s Express CC yard in Durban North’s Sea Cow Lake area. The flooding follows significant rainfall in the area and the overflow of a canal situated nearby the company’s premises. Extensive damage has been recorded due to the incident.
  • PINETOWN – 12 APR 2022 (04H20) Road closure reported on the N3 Eastbound after the Mariannhill Toll Plaza tollgate in Pinetown. The road has been closed to traffic due to ongoing mudslides following persistent rainfall in the region. Motorists are advised to avoid travelling in affected areas. Emergency response efforts are underway.
  • DURBAN – 12 APR 2022 (04H50) Road closure reported on the N2 Northbound after the M7/ Edwin Swales Drive offramp in the vicinity of Ridgeview, Durban. The road is closed to motorists due to mudslides and unsafe driving conditions amid floodings and persistent rainfall in the region. Motorists are advised to avoid travelling in affected areas. Emergency response efforts are underway.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 12 APR 2022

  • GIYANI – 11 APR 2022 (20H20) The trial of former prosecutor Ratshilumela Makhado is expected to continue at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Giyani on Tuesday, 12 April 2022. The accused is facing charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice. The accused allegedly attempted to overturn a negligent driving case against a suspect in return for a bribe in 2020. The prosecution is expected to request the court to revoke his R5,000 bail for failing to appear in court and violating bail conditions today, 11 April 2022.
  • LEPHALALE – 11 APR 2022 (23H20) The African National Congress (ANC) Regional Executive Committee (REC) in the Waterberg district of Limpopo has announced a decision to conduct the party’s Regional Elective Conference between 13 May 2022 and 15 May 2022. The conference had previously been postponed in March 2022 after the region failed to reach the required number of delegates to hold a conference. This follows as Waterberg is currently the sole remaining region that has not convened an elective conference in Limpopo.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 12 APR 2022

  • JEPPES REEF – 12 APR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the Matsamo Border Post today, 12 April 2022, at 10H00 by the members affiliated with the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU). Members of NEHAWU will be protesting in solidarity with eSwatini detained Members of Parliament. Demonstrators will be protesting for the release of detained political members. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police are aware of the protest.
  • HOUTBOS – 12 APR 2022 (06H05) Protest expected at the Oshoek Border Post today, 12 April 2022, at 10H00 by members affiliated with the  National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU). SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 12 APR 2022

  • MAHIKENG – 12 APR 2022 (08H30) The Molopo Magistrate Court has postponed the theft case against the Former Head of the Special Commercial Crimes Unit (SCCU), Jeanette Nevelling, to Monday, 13 June 2022. Nevelling was arrested on 16 February 2021 on an allegation of shoplifting at a retail store at the Crossing Shopping Mall in Mahikeng. Nevelling allegedly stole clothing and food items valued at R3000.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 12 APR 2022

  • UPINGTON – 11 APR 2022 (20H00) The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the death of a suspect who died whilst in Police custody at the Groblershoop Police Station in Upington. The suspect was found guilty of being in contempt of court before he allegedly committed suicide. The deceased was sentenced to ten days imprisonment or a fine of R100. A relative member went to withdraw the funds required for bail while he was in Police custody. Thereafter, the suspect was found dead in the cell.
  • DANIELSKUIL – 12 APR 2022 (08H45) The Department of Road and Public Works has announced that the R31 in the vicinity of Koopmansfontein to the Danielskuil intersection has been reopened for traffic flow following the road closure due to flooding. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 12 APR 2022

  • PAARL – 11 APR 2022 (19H15) Road closure reported for heavy motor vehicles (HMV) accident at the Huguenot tunnel on the N1. This is due to a power failure inside the tunnel. HMV are advised to use alternative routes.
  • CAPE TOWN – 11 APR 2022 (21H50) Protest reported on Old Faure Road approaching the Mew Way intersection between Khayelitsha and Delft in Cape Town. Community members are protesting against service delivery related matters. Demonstrators are obstructing the roadway with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Authorities are on the scene.
  • CAPE TOWN – 12 APR 2022 (06H15) Stones and debris reported on Baden Powell towards the Mitchells Plain turnoff. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Authorities have been dispatched.
  • GRABOUW – 12 APR 2022 (06H45) Protest reported on the N2 in the vicinity of Houw Hoek Hotel. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstrators have blockaded the Botrivier railway crossing with stones to derail goods trains operating between Cape Town and Caledon. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • CAPE TOWN – 12 APR 2022 (07H05) Protest reported on Old Faure Road/M49 towards Mew Way. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris.
