SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 12 MAY 2022
• GQEBERHA/PORT ELIZABETH – 12 MAY 2022 (03H35) The South African National Roads Agency has announced that the Special Maintenance road project from the R63/N10 intersection to Bedford is set to launch in Bedford and Cookhouse. The project is set to increase job opportunities for community members and Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs). Furthermore, the construction is set to be approximately R155 million. The announcement followed an information session with relevant stakeholders hosted by SANRAL on Tuesday, 10 May 2022. SANRAL noted that the project is expected to recycle existing pavement surfaces and base layers, replace three culverts, seal cracks and others. Roadspan Surfacing (Pty) Ltd is set to start its mobilisation period in June 2022. Reports indicate that the construction is expected to last for 18 months.
• PATENSIE – 12 MAY 2022 (08H45) Protest reported in Ramaphosa Village. Community members are expected to march to the Patensie Police Station. The demonstrators are protesting due to the lack of support by the Department of Education for schools. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 12 MAY 2022
• WELKOM – 11 MAY 2022 (23H35) The South African Police Services (SAPS) in Free State has announced the launch of a search operation on Wednesday, 11 May 2022. The operation is set to locate the suspects involved in the Fit Quick Fit robbery in Welkom on Tuesday, 10 May 2022, at approximately 16:00. Four suspects allegedly entered the shop with rifles and handguns and escaped in a white Mercedes-Benz. The suspects have been sited travelling towards Masimong mine in a Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) after a shootout with the Police in the Industrial area of Welkom. The SAPS has requested the public to provide any information to locate the suspects.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 12 MAY 2022
• JOHANNESBURG – 11 MAY 2022 (19H50) Justice Minister Ronald Lamola held a meeting with Khulumani Support Group (KSG) activists demanding reparations for apartheid crimes at the Constitutional Court today, 11 May 2022. This follows after the activist slept outside the court for 13 days. Reparations were promised to victims of apartheid human rights violations after the conclusion of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 1998. Lamola stated that the Department is unable to pay the reparations due to the lack of funds.
• SANDTON – 11 MAY 2022 (20H30) Fire reported at the Pan Africa Mall in Alexandra. Reports indicate that the fire started following an altercation between Operation Dudula members and illegal foreigners in the area. Furthermore, the fire affected several buildings, and no injuries have been reported. The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has been deployed to the area to contain the damages. The South African Police Services (SAPS) is set to investigate the cause of the fire.
• VANDERBIJLPARK – 11 MAY 2022 (22H15) Road closure reported on the corner of Houtkop road and Frikkie Meyer road. The closure follows as demonstrators have started barricading the road with burning tyres. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes until the scene has been cleared. Police are expected to be deployed to the area for further investigations.
• KATLEHONG – 11 MAY 2022 (22H55) The Palmridge Magistrate Courts High Sitting in Ekurhuleni has announced the postponement of Caylene Whiteboy, Simon Ndyalvane and Vorster Netshiangolo’s pre-trial hearing to 03 June 2022. The three suspects are Police Officers accused of murdering 16-year-old Nathaniel Julies. The suspects allegedly shot Julies during a Protest in Eldorado Park in 2020. The suspects’ bail has been extended in addition to the suspects set to remain out on bail. Furthermore, the trial is set to last for approximately 33 days, expected to start in October 2022.
• PRETORIA/TSHWANE – 12 MAY 2022 (02H50) Protest expected by members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on 25 May 2022 at approximately 10H00. The demonstrators are set to protest at the French Embassy. Furthermore, the EFF members are set to gather in solidarity with the removal of France from the continent. Motorists are advised to make use of alternative routes.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 12 MAY 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by members affiliated with the Young Nurses Indaba Trade Union (YNITU) today, 12 May 2022, at the South African Nurses Council (SANC) offices. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Union Buildings from 09H00 and march to the SANC offices. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand permanent employment and better salaries. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• CENTURION – 12 MAY 2022 (07H50) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on Ruimte Road/ R114. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (07H00) Protest reported on the R55 towards the entrance of Stone Ridge Country Estate. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to power outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• SOWETO – 12 MAY 2022 (09H30) Protest reported outside Thubelihle Secondary school. Parents and learners are protesting due to the delay of a refurbishment project at the school. The demonstrators demand all involved stakeholders in the project to provide a full report on the reason for the delays. The demonstrators have blockaded the school entrance. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 12 MAY 2022
• PIETERMARITZBURG – 12 MAY 2022 (08H05) Former President Jacob Zuma is expected to appear at the Pietermaritzburg High Court Tuesday, 17 May 2022. The High Court is expected to resume with Zuma’s trial. Zuma and French arms company Thales face several charges, including fraud, racketeering and money laundering, linked to the multibillion-rand Strategic Defence Procurement Packages (SDPP).

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 12 MAY 2022
• ZEBEDIELA – 11 MAY 2022 (19H15) The Manager at the Zebediela Citrus Estate, Koos Zietsman, stated that the company had obtained a court interdict from the Labour Court in Pretoria, which will prevent the striking employees from entering the estate. The employees protested on Monday, 09 May 2022, calling on the employer to respond to their demands. The employees are demanding a salary increase of 15%, an R1500 wage increase and payment of provident funds, amongst others. The Food and Allied Workers Union’s organiser in Limpopo, Edwin Maboa, stated that the strike will continue until the employees’ demands are met. The employees are still on strike, and they are preventing trucks and non-striking employees from entering the premises. The management is expected to hold a meeting with the employees soon.
• PHALABORWA – 12 MAY 2022 (08H55) Protest reported outside Mopani TVET College. Students are protesting due to unpaid National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowances. The demonstrators have barricaded the area with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• MUSINA – 12 MAY 2022 (09H10) Protest reported on the N1 in the vicinity of KhafhuTrading Enterprise. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery due to water outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 12 MAY 2022
• DELMAS – 11 MAY 2022 (20H30) Business robbery reported at Ubuntu mine in Delmas today, 11 May 2022. A security guard has been shot. The suspects stole a truck with diesel. Police are investigating the matter.
• SECUNDA – 11 MAY 2022 (19H45) Protest reported on the N17 outside Secunda in the vicinity of TMC Scrapyard. Demonstrators are barricading the road. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police have been dispatched.
• NELSPRUIT/MBOMBELA – 12 MAY 2022 (06H15) The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) is expected to hold a rally in commemoration of the International Nurses Day today, 12 May 2022, at the Church Unlimited near the R40 towards Barberton.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 12 MAY 2022
• POTCHEFSTROOM – 11 MAY 2022 (20H00) Residents in Potchefstroom’s informal settlements have raised concerns regarding illegal electricity and water connections. The residents have called on the JB Marks Local Municipality Mayor, Gaba ka Qhele to address the matter. The residents stated that there are sections of the informal settlement that does not have legal electricity connections. However, the area has electricity. The municipality is formalising processes to provide those areas with electricity and water.
• MAHIKENG – 11 MAY 2022 (22H40) The South African Police Service (SAPS) has urged the public not to take the law into their own hands. This follows after the Mahikeng community fatally injured an alleged suspect in the Vuyisile Maphanzi murder case on Monday, 09 May 2022, in the Signal Hill area. The North West Police Spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh noted that no arrests have been made regarding the mob retaliation. Furthermore, the Mmabatho Magistrates Court has postponed the court hearing for Godfrey Tshipi regarding the death of Vuyisile Maphanzi to Tuesday, 17 May 2022.
• LEEUDORINGSTAD – 12 MAY 2022 (00H05) The Leuudoringstad Magistrates Court has provided bail to the three suspects that allegedly defrauded Farmers of approximately R12 million. Two of the three suspects have been accused of fraud, money laundering and the contravention of the Tax Administrations Act to the value of approximately R2,3 million. This follows after farmers filed a complaint about fraudulent transactions in their accounts. The transactions have expectedly generated following instructions from Agri Trade Noordwes Proprietary (Pty) Limited (Ltd) Agent Barend Van Loggerenberg. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has set Agri Trade Noordwes Pty Ltd under investigation.
• KLERKSDORP – 12 MAY 2022 (06H30) The Member of the Executive (MEC) for Health, Madoda Sambatha, along with the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) members, are expected to lead the International Nurses Day celebrations today, 12 May 2022, from 09H00 at the Klerksdorp Recreation Centre.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 12 MAY 2022
• SPRINGBOK – 11 MAY 2022 (23H55) The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development, and Land Reform is expected to gather community farmers on Thursday, 12 May 2022, at the Namakwa Guest Farm. The announcement follows after the Members of the Executive Council (MEC) engaged women in the sector to identify the barriers to female participation. Participants are expected to be elected from the Land Reform and Food Security Beneficiaries, youth, women and farmers with disabilities, and representation of different communities in the region. MEC Mase Manopole is expected to host the presentation with Makgotlas set as his substitute.
• KIMBERLEY – 12 MAY 2022 (05H05) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) today, 12 May 2022, at Premier’s Office. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Cenotaph World War Memorial Monument from 11H00 and march to the Premier’s office from 12H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against budget cuts and the shortage of employees. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• KIMBERLEY – 12 MAY 2022 (06H10) The Sol Municipality has announced a planned water interruption from Thursday, 12 May 2022, until Sunday, 15 May 2022. The water interruption is to repair the water leaks on the 965mm pipeline near gogga and behind 3SAI military base and the 600mm pipeline near the Roodepan takeoff. Water tankers will drive through in all wards to make sure all residents are serviced, and water tankers will also be made available at the following municipal service centres, Newton Reservoir, Sol Plaatje Civic Centre and the Fire Station.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 12 MAY 2022
• CAPE TOWN – 11 MAY 2022 (19H00) The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Johan Jeffer, is expected to host a Justice Service Delivery Imbizo at Delft Civic Centre on Friday, 13 May 2022, from 08H00. The Police third quarter crime statistics indicate that Delft is one of the areas with the highest number of sexual assault cases in the country. The Imbizo is part of the Department’s recently launched Year of the Community programme and will focus on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
• CAPE TOWN – 12 MAY 2022 (05H00) Members of Operation Dadula are expected to gather at the Zonnebloem parking area on 14 May 2022. The members are set to speak at approximately 10H00. Furthermore, the members are set to gather for the launch of Operation Dudula in the Cape Town area. The public has been advised to remain clear of the area.
