SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 14 APR 2022

  • EAST LONDON – 14 APR 2022 (08H30) The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is expected to hold its Workers Day Rally on Sunday, 01 May 2022, at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium. COSATU members are expected to hold a rally to recognise the union’s achievements. Motorists and members of the public are advised to be vigilant during the rally. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • MOUNT AYLIFF – 14 APR 2022 (15H30) The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 4 warning in Eastern Cape from Friday, 15 April 2022, till Saturday, 16 April 2022. The affected areas include Alfred Nzo and OR Tambo. Showers and thunderstorms are expected. Localised flooding of susceptible settlements, roads and low-lying areas is expected.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 14 APR 2022

  • BOTHAVILLE – 14 APR 2022 (09H00) The Sedibeng Water employees are expected to resume work today, 14 April 2022, following their industrial action on Wednesday, 13 April 2022. The Sedibeng board has agreed with the employee’s representatives to back pay the annual increase from July 2021  as per the demand. Sedibeng Water stated that all pump stations will be operational from today, 14 April 2022.
  • ZASTRON – 14 APR 2022 (12H00) Residents of Zastron are expected to meet with Centlec and the Mohokare Municipality today, 14 April 2022, following concerns of poor service delivery. The meeting is expected to address the inconveniences caused by a lack of water and electricity and negotiate alternative ways to assist the community with basic needs while Centlec and the municipality work on maintenance.
  • VREDEFORT – 14 APR 2022 (12H40) Protest reported on Voortrekker street. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to water outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with stones and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 14 APR 2022

  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 14 APR 2022 (06H20) The Minister of Health, Joe Phaahla and the Deputy Minister, Sibongiseni Dhlomo, is expected to brief the Portfolio Committee today, 14 April 2022, from 09H00 on Health on the progress made with the process of amending the current health regulations ahead of the submission for public comments. The regulations aim to deal with the COVID-19 and other notifiable conditions outside the national state of disaster.
  • SOWETO – 14 APR 2022 (06H30) Protest reported on Modjaji Street in Pimville. The demonstrators are protesting due to service delivery related to electricity. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • SANDTON – 14 APR 2022 (07H10) The Eskom Group Chief Executive, Andre de Ruyter, is expected to hold a media brief today, 14 April 2022, from 10H00 until 11H00. Eskom’s management team is expected to provide an update on the current system challenges.
  • KRUGERSDORP – 14 APR 2022 (09H20) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure, Jacob Mamabolo, is expected to lead the Easter Road Safety law enforcement operation on the R24/N14 intersection in Tarlton today, 14 April 2022 from 11H00. The campaign will be conducted jointly with law enforcement agencies, faith-based organisations, the taxi industry and local government and will focus on road safety interventions that seek to encourage motorists to adhere to road rules, including the wearing of seatbelts, resting during long trips to lessen driver fatigue as well as the checking of vehicles for overloading and roadworthiness.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 14 APR 2022 (10H30) Cash in Transit (CIT) robbery reported in Hermandstad. Unidentified suspects have bombed and robbed an armoured money vehicle of an undisclosed amount of money. Firearms have been taken. Several injuries have been reported. The suspects have fled the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • SOSHANGUVE – 14 April 2022 (12H30) UPDATE Emergency services are on the scene to put the fire from the explosion. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (10H35) Cash in Transit (CIT) robbery reported in the vicinity of the Soshanguve TUT delivery Gate. Reports indicate that unidentified suspects have bombed and robbed an armoured vehicle of an undisclosed amount of money. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • FOCHVILLE – 14 APR 2022 (14H00) Protest reported at the R500 and Loopspruit Avenue intersection at the Greenpark informal settlement. Residents are protesting due to power outages in the area. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
  • CENTURION – 14 APR 2022 (15H50) The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 warning in Gauteng on Saturday, 16 April 2022. The affected areas include Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Sedibeng and West Rand. Showers and thunderstorms are expected. Localised flooding of susceptible settlements, roads and low-lying areas is expected.
  • ALEXANDRA – 14 APR 2022 (18H00) City Power’s Alexandra Service Delivery Centre (SDC) stated that technicians are currently working on repairs to address power outages in the area. Some outages are ongoing for 24 hours. The power outages are caused by the theft of three cables at the Alexandra substation. Areas affected include Eastbank, Westbank, Far Eastbank, Tsutsumane, and Stjwetla. Additional areas affected include 17 Avenue and 18 Avenue, between Nhlanhla and Alex Plaza, due to vandalism at the Transformer substation.

  • PINETOWN – 14 APR 2022 (05H40) Protest reported on Old Richmond Road in Nagina Phase one. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris.   • KWADUKUZA – 14 APR 2022 (06H50) Protest reported on the R102 from Groutville to the N2 near Thembeni. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with debris.   • UMLAZI – 14 APR 2022 (11H30) Protest reported on Folweni Road/ M35 in the vicinity of Philani Valley Mall. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • DURBAN – 14 APR 2022 (12H05) Protest reported on the Quarry Road. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Spencer Road has been blockaded with debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • VERULAM – 14 APR 2022 (12H50) Protest reported on Russom Street and Todd Street in the vicinity of the Old Phase Entrance. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with stones and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
  • UMLAZI – 14 APR 2022 (13H50) Twelve suspects are expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court today, 14 April 2022, on charges of business burglary and possession of stolen property. This follows after Police have arrested the suspects in connection with the looting of two businesses in Umlazi on Wednesday night, 13 April 2022. A group of community members entered two stores and took groceries and appliances. Police responded at both premises and arrested a total of twelve suspects. Some of the stolen items have been recovered by Police and handed back to the store manager. Police also seized a vehicle that had been used in the commission of the crime.
  • LOUWSBURG – 14 APR 2022 (14H15) UPDATE The R69 at the Louwsburg turn-off is open to traffic. Demonstrators are continuing to protest. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation.  (07H50) Protest reported on the R69 the Louwsburg turn-off. Community members are protesting due to poor service delivery.   • DURBAN – 14 APR 2022 (15H30) UPDATE Police are attempting to disperse the demonstrators with stun grenades. Police are clearing the M19 in Reservoir Hills for traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (13H55) UPDATE Residents of Quarry Road informal settlement are protesting after they have allegedly been removed from a school that had been housing them following the floods. (13H20) Road closure reported on the M19 due to ongoing protest. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (11H40) Protest reported on the M19 in Reservoir Hills. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the areas and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • DURBAN – 14 APR 2022 (15H20) The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 4 warning in KwaZulu-Natal from Friday afternoon, 15 April 2022, till Saturday, 16 April 2022. The affected areas include Ilembe, Ethekweni, Umdoni and Ugu. Strong winds, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected. Considering that the soil is saturated, drainage systems are blocked, and river banks have burst over the weekend, further impacts are expected.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 14 APR 2022

  • GROBLERSDAL – 14 APR 2022 (23H40) Sekhukhune District Municipality opposition parties are calling for the immediate dismissal of the recently appointed Executive Mayor, Julia Mathebe. This follows after the African National Congress (ANC) Sekhukhune Regional Chairperson Julia Mathebe had recently been elected as Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality. Opposition parties are calling for Mathebe’s resignation due to her role in investing money in the defunct VBS Mutual Bank during her tenure as Mayor of the Elias Motsoaledi Municipality.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 14 APR 2022

  • EMANGWENI – 14 APR 2022 (14H45) Health Member of Executive Council (MEC), Sasekani Manzini, with Minister of Health Joe Dhaahla is expected to launch the 2022 Africa Vaccination Week on 25 April 22 till 30 April 2022 and the Commemoration of the World Malaria Day on 25 April 2022. The event will be held at the Mangeni Stadium, Nkomazi Local Municipality, from 09H30 till 12H30.
  • MALALANE – 14 APR 2022 (15H00) Motorists are advised not to use the N4 between Malalane and Komatipoort during nighttime. This is due to the increase of spiking incidents within Nkomazi. Historically, Hectorspruit is a high-risk area for spiking incidents.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 14 APR 2022

  • MAHIKENG – 14 APR 2022 (08H10) The Molopo Magistrate’s Court in Mahikeng has postponed the case against the two Police officers to Friday, 13 May 2022. The Police officers have been accused of sexually assaulting a woman while on duty. The officers have been granted bail of R3,000 each.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 14 APR 2022

  • KIMBERLEY – 14 APR 2022 (16H30) Kimberley Police with the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison, South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and Northern Cape and Free State Provincial Traffic Departments conducted a roadblock on the N8 road outside Kimberley today, 14 April 2022. The collective team stopped and searched 302 vehicles and 407 persons resulting in the issuing of traffic fines to the value of R10,000. The main focus of the operation is on illegal activities, including stolen goods, firearms and ammunition, stolen vehicles, drugs and livestock in transit on roads leading into and out of the province. Speeding, driver fatigue, use of safety belts and overloading will also be concentrated on.

  • CAPE TOWN – 14 APR 2022 (09H55) Shooting reported on St. Augustine Road in Lavender Hill. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • CAPE TOWN – 14 APR 2022 (11H20) Peaceful protest reported on Long Street and Hans Strijdom Avenue. The demonstrators are marching along the streets. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • CAPE TOWN – 14 APR 2022 (16H00) Shooting reported at the Ottery Hypermarket on Ottery Road. Rival gang members spotted each other at the First National Bank (FNB) inside the Mall. Clashes ensued outside the Mall. Police arrested three gang members and seized two firearms. The public is advised to avoid the area.
