SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 15 APR 2022
• PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 15 APR 2022 (06H20) The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has announced a planned power outage from Saturday, 23 April 2022, weather permitting, with an alternative date of Saturday, 07 May 2022, from 08H00 until 17H00. The power outage will allow the electrical department to replace the burnt power transformer at the Swartkops, Matomela, Kwaford one and two lines. The affected areas will include Zwide, Kwazakhele, New Brighton, Struandale Industrial, and SATS. The Municipality stated that updates will be provided to the public as the situation progresses.
• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 15 APR 2022 (08H35) The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is expected to hold its Workers Day Rally on Sunday, 01 May 2022, at the Raymond Mhlaba Stadium. COSATU members are expected to hold a rally to recognise the union’s achievements. Motorists and members of the public are advised to be vigilant during the rally. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 15 APR 2022
• WELKOM – 15 APR 2022 (12H45) Five suspects are expected to appear at the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 19 April 2022. The suspects have been arrested following an operation by the Police and were found processing gold-bearing material on a municipal farm.
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 15 APR 2022 (14H00) The Mangaung Metropolitan Executive Mayor Mxolisi Siyonzana has requested that the Free State High Court interdict the Acting City Manager (ACM) Mzingisi Nkungwana and others from executing any office powers and access to the municipal premises. Siyonzana’s application to the Free State High Court comes after the council allegedly voted to extend Nkungwana’s fixed-term contract. The Metropolitan was recently put under administration by the national government after years of failed financial recovery plans.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 15 APR 2022
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 15 APR 2022 (09H40) Road closure reported at the Daspoort Tunnel/R55 due to a truck that overturned. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergencies services have been dispatched.
• SOWETO – 15 APR 2022 (11H10) UPDATE The Johannesburg Speaker of Council, Vasco Manuel Da Gama, has arrived at the substation to receive a briefing from the technical team. The technical team stated that the control room has been damaged and the heat remains high. The affected areas due to the fire include the ABI, Eldorado Park ext 2, 4, 5 and 7, Devland industrial, Eldorado Park North, Olifantsvlei (water treatment plant), Eldorado Park West, Kliptown, Klipspruit, Goudkopppies business, substations fed from Fordsburg have also tripped. (08H30) The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS), Robert Malaudzi, has stated that no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is expected to be investigated. (07H20) Firefighters are on the scene in an attempt to contain the fire. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area. (05H30) Fire reported at the Eldorado Park Sub Station City Power. Reports indicate that the substation has caught fire. The reason for the fire is unknown at this stage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services have been dispatched.
• JOHANNESBURG – 15 APR 2022 (11H25) Unrest expected at the Ebony Park Primary School by Operation Dudula members on Saturday, 16 April 2022, from 09H00. Operation Dudula members are expected to launch an operation movement in the area against the illegalities of narcotics and substance abuse, illegal immigration and the marginalising of South African informal business sectors. The members are demanding the employment of South Africans first. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during the gathering. Police are aware of the situation.
• JOHANNESBURG – 15 APR 2022 (16H00) Transnet is sending out force majeure notices to local coal mining companies as shipments of fuel are slow. This will potentially affect exports. Among the companies notified are Thungela Resources and Miner Exxaro Resources. Transnet has been impacted by corruption that has affected the locomotive supply and vandalism, including cable theft. Exxaro has consulted with legal advisers over the notice Transnet Freight Rail has sent to affected parties. Coal exporters, including Exxaro are in talks with Transnet to find a resolution.
• JOHANNESBURG – 15 APR 2022 (16H15) City Power security successfully arrested one out of three cable thieves at the Cydna substation near Norwood on Thursday night, 14 April 2022. Off duty officers reported suspicious activity at the substation, and a security team was dispatched to the scene. The suspect was handed over to the Norwood Police Station to be charged with infrastructure theft. The suspect is expected to appear at the Magistrate Court soon.
• JOHANNESBURG – 15 APR 2022 (16H45) Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula announced another extension for motorists to meet the deadline to renew their driver’s licences. The initial deadline was moved to 15 April 2022. However, motorists have been given until 05 May 2022. There is still a considerable backlog.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 15 APR 2022
• VERULAM – 15 APR 2022 (04H50) Protest reported at the corner of Todd Street and Russom Street in Grangetown, Verulam. A small group of demonstrators are burning tyres on the roadway at the old phase entrance. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Authorities are aware of the situation.
• DURBAN – 15 APR 2022 (10H10) The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi, and representatives from the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) and Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) will today, 15 April 2022 join the Provincial Executive to visit the flooded affected areas to assess the damages in the eThekwini Metro Municipality.
• TONGAAT – 15 APR 2022 (10H20) Road closure reported on the R102 due to a sinkhole. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services are monitoring the area.
• PINETOWN – 15 APR 2022 (14H20) Road closure reported on Umhlatuzana Road between Nqaba Road and Abbot Francis Road in Mariannhill. The road is expected to be reopened at 00H00 today, 15 April 2022. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
• KLOOF – 15 APR 2022 (14H45) Road closure reported on Kloof Falls Road/ M33 between Ronalds Road and Sherwood Drive in Kloof. The road is expected to be reopened on 25 April 2022. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
• DURBAN – 15 APR 2022 (16H55) Road closure reported on the N2 northbound at Umhali. The road is closed due to flooding. The N2 southbound remains open to traffic. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 15 APR 2022
• PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 15 APR 2022 (08H20) The Polokwane High Court is expected to hand down its judgement on a Zimbabwean national, Andrea Imbayarwo, on Tuesday, 19 April 2022. Imbayarwo has been accused of killing a British national, Christine Robinson, at her Raditau Lodge in Thabazimbi on 30 July 2014. Imbayarwo also faces charges of housebreaking and contravention of the Immigration Act.
• GIYANI – 15 APR 2022 (12H10) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to host the Vladimir Lenin Lecture on Friday, 22 April 2022, at the Giyani Community Hall from 12H00. The EFF Deputy President, Floyd Shivambu, is expected to address during the lecture.

• ERMELO – 15 APR 2022 (10H15) The African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to attend the Good Friday church service today, 15 April 2022, at the Alshaddai Terbanecle International in Ermelo from 11H00.

• MAHIKENG – 15 APR 2022 (08H45) UPDATE A shopping mall and several shops have been affected by the fire that broke out. Firefights have contained the fire in the area. (07H55) Fire reported on Station Road. Reports indicated that a building in the vicinity of the Waltloo store has caught fire. The reason for the fire is unknown at this stage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Firefighters are on the scene in an attempt to contain the fire.
• MAHIKENG – 15 APR 2022 (09H20) The Department of Health has announced its readiness to handle emergencies during the Easter holidays. The Member of the Executive Council (MEC), Madoda Sambatha, stated that the department has maximised resources to respond immediately to any emergency incidents. Sambatha added that the province has 63 operational ambulances, 10 ALS response units and 15 planned patient transport or disaster buses.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 15 APR 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 15 APR 2022 (16H20) The Kimberley Regional Court has sentenced accused Sizwe Ntwane to life imprisonment. The accused has been sentenced on charges of sexual assault. The prosecution successfully opposed the accused’s bail application, and he was remanded until the conclusion of his trial.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 15 APR 2022
• CAPE TOWN – 15 APR 2022 (04H30) Fire reported at a factory located at the corner of Jean Simonis Street and Fritz Spilhaus Avenue in Parow East, Cape Town. Reports indicate that a factory warehouse building is currently on fire. The reason for the fire remains undetermined at this time. The Fire Brigade and other emergency services are on the scene. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling in the area.
• CAPE TOWN – 15 APR 2022 (13H30) Protest reported at the Govan Mbeki Road and Steve Biko Road in Khayelitsha. The roads are open to traffic. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police have been dispatched to the scene. Historically, community members protested due to poor service delivery in the area.
• CAPE TOWN – 15 APR 2022 (15H00) The Western Cape Department of Social Development stated that it had allocated R4.5-million for the establishment of a new homeless shelter at the former Robbie Nurock Clinic in Cape Town. The shelter is expected to be operational by the end of the current financial year. The new shelter will accommodate up to 100 people at a time.
• CAPE TOWN – 15 APR 2022 (17H40) The Police arrested four gang members after the shooting at Ottery Hypermarket on Thursday, 14 April 2022. A person, allegedly associated with the Mongrels gang, had been shot and wounded by the Yuru Cats gang. The Police patrolled the area when the incident occurred. A chase ensued where the Police cornered three gang members on Edward Road, Ottery. The gang members have been arrested on charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and possession of prohibited firearms. The Police seized three firearms and ammunition.
