  • MOTHERWELL – 15 FEB 2022 (08H50) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on the R334. The situation is volatile. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (07H50) Protest reported on Addo Road in the vicinity of the Municipality Depot. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 15 FEB 2022

  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 14 FEB 2022 (21H05) Premier Sisi Ntombela is expected to deliver the State of the Provincial (SONA) address on Monday, 28 February 2022. The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Gadija Brown is also expected to table the Provincial Budget on Thursday, 10 March 2022.
  • DEALESVILLE – 15 FEB 2022 (08H30) Protest expected by the community of Dealesville today, 15 February 2022, at the Tokologo Municipality. The demonstrators are expected to gather on Main Street from 09H00 and march the Tokologo Municipal offices. The demonstrators are expected to protest to call for immediate action regarding the current state of service delivery. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demand to the Municipality. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are aware of the protest.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 15 FEB 2022

  • JOHANNESBURG – 14 FEB 2022 (22H00) Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Dlamini Zuma has announced the extension of South Africa’s National State of Disaster until 15 March 2022. The extension has been gazetted in terms of Section 27 (5)(c) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002). The announcement follows a special Cabinet meeting to determine the extent to which the management of the COVID-19 pandemic requires the existence of the National State of Disaster and the legal framework to manage the virus outside the Disaster Management Act. The extension is expected to allow Government to establish alternative measures to contain further outbreaks.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 14 FEB 2022 (21H50) The Hawks’ Tactical Operational Management Section has concluded an operation resulting in the arrests of six suspects in Johannesburg Central. The Hawks team, assisted by the Ekurhuleni District Tactical Team, Crime Intelligence, Tracker Connect and other security teams, conducted a search operation to locate suspects involved in armed robberies across Johannesburg. This follows intelligence received regarding the suspects’ whereabouts in Johannesburg Central. The suspects had subsequently been located and apprehended on the M2 highway following an exchange of fire with security teams. Five of the suspects sustained injuries and have been transported to a medical facility under Police guard. The authorities have also recovered an AK 47 rifle, two pistols, ammunition, and two hijacked vehicles. The suspects are expected to be charged with attempted murder, hijacking, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 14 FEB 2022 (22H50) Members of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), United Association of South Africa (UASA), and Solidarity have announced plans to launch industrial action if their demands of an R1,000 wage increase for the following three years are not met. This follows after mineworkers recently held a meeting and agreed to down tools at Sibanye-Stillwater. Sibanye has reportedly agreed to offer an R800 wage increase, representing an above-inflation increase of 5%.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 15 FEB 2022 (08H10) The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) Chief in Command (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to appear at the Equality Court Wednesday, 16 February 2022, from 09H00 in a case against Afriforum. The court is expected to hear the Afriforum case against the EFF for using hate speech.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 15 FEB 2022

  • VERULAM – 14 FEB 2022 (20H15) Shooting reported in Verulam. Preliminary reports indicate the unidentified suspects have shot and killed a taxi owner. The reason for the shooting is unknown at this stage. Police are on the scene.
  • DURBAN – 14 FEB 2022 (22H20) UPDATE The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) Durban leadership has concluded a meeting with the eThekwini Municipality led by the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. During the meeting, several issues have been discussed and resolved, including the alleged impounding of taxis. Subsequently, SANTACO has stated that all public transport taxis are scheduled to operate as usual tomorrow, 15 February 2022 and that the expected protest has been suspended. (17H40) Protest expected by the South Beach and North Beach Taxi Association on Tuesday, 15 February 2022. Taxi operators are expected to protest to demand the Municipality releases their impounded taxi’s. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are aware of the situation.
  • IXOPO – 15 FEB 2022 (06H30) UPDATE Violent demonstrations reported on the R612 at the intersection of Lufafa Road towards Qunu Falls District. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The situation is volatile. (06H00) Protest reported on the R612 from between Glenmaize and Ixopo. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • CHARLESTOWN – 15 FEB 2022 (09H40) Road closure reported on the N11 Majuba Pass due to a heavy motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services have been dispatched.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 15 FEB 2022

  • LEBOWAKGOMO – 15 FEB 2022 (08H20) The Speaker of the Provincial Legislature, Rosemary Reneiloe Molapo, is expected to preside over the State of the Province Address (SOPA) that is expected to be delivered by Premier Stanely Mathabatha at the Legislative Chambers in Lebowakgomo on Thursday, 24 February 2022, from 09H00. Mathabatha is also expected to outline key service delivery programmes for the financial year ahead.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 15 FEB 2022

  • MBOMBELA – 14 FEB 2022 (20H10) The Speaker of the Provincial Legislature, Makhosszane Masilela, is expected to open the 4th Session of the 6th Provincial Legislature on Friday, 25 February 2022, from 10H00 at the Legislature Chamber. Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tshipane, is expected to deliver the State of the Provincial Address (SOPA) during the opening.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 15 FEB 2022

  • MAHIKENG – 14 FEB 2022 (20H00) The Provincial Legislature’s Health Committee has announced that it has lodged an investigation into the delayed construction at the Mmabatho Nursing College. This follows after the Member of the North West Provincial Legislature, Gavin Edwards, expressed concerns over the progress of the construction after seeing the project. Edwards stated that the department has incurred more costs due to of lack of nurses’ residences and forced the department to place student nurses in offsite accommodation. The Legislature Committee will convene an urgent meeting with the Department of Health on the matter.
  • RAMOTSE – 15 FEB 2022 (03H00) North West Police have launched an investigation into a recent fire at the Ramotse Primary School in the vicinity of Temba, near Rustenburg. The cause of the fire, which reportedly occurred on Saturday, 12 February 2022, is yet to be determined. However, several local sources have indicated that the fire had been caused by criminal elements within the Luka Village. Education Department Spokesperson Elias Malindi has stated that the Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela, has condemned the alleged case of arson at the school, calling on law enforcement to expedite investigations into the matter.
  • LEDIG – 15 FEB 2022 (06H40) Protest reported on the R556 in the vicinity of Zonke Bonke Car Wash. Previous demonstrations have been related to unemployment and employment demands at the Bakubung Platinum. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • HARTBEESPOORT – 15 FEB 2022 (08H40) UPDATE Road closure reported on the R514 in the vicinity of Techdatanet Technologies due to ongoing protest. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. (05H50) Protest reported on the R514 in the vicinity of Ten Rooms. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

  • COLESBURG – 14 FEB 2022 (20H50) The South African Police Services (SAPS) has announced that it has launched investigations following a fuel tanker that caught fire on the N1 outside Colesberg on Sunday, 13 February 2022.

  • CAPE TOWN – 15 FEB 2022 (07H30) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on Strandfontein Road. Taxi operators have blockaded the road. (07H00) Protest reported on Jakes Gerwel Drive in the vicinity of Vangate Mall towards Epping. Taxi operators have barricaded the road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
  • VELDDRIF – 15 FEB 2022 (08H10) Premier Alan Winde is expected to deliver the State of the Province Address (SOPA) today, 15 February 2022, from 10H45 at the Velddrif Town Hall. Winde is expected to address unemployment, job creation and economic growth. The State of the Province Address will be delivered in Velddrift as part of the Provincial Government’s efforts to take parliament to the people.
