• EAST LONDON – 16 MAY 2022 (06H10) The newly elected Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) is expected to hold its meeting today, 16 May 2022, from 10H00 at the East London International Convention Centre.

• FRANKFORT – 16 MAY 2022 (08H30) Premier Sisi Ntombela is expected to visit the Mafube Local Municipality to engage with community members during a Provincial Imbizo on Friday 20 May 2022, 10H00 at the Sunset Area, in Phomolong Section.
• FRANKFORT – 16 MAY 2022 (08H40) Protest reported at the intersection of JJ Hadebe Street and Beckwith Street towards the R26. Taxi operators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to road infrastructure. The demonstrators have blockaded the road with taxis. • BRONKHORSTSPRUIT – 16 MAY 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the Municipality Offices in Bronkhorstspruit today, 16 May 2022. Community members are expected to embark on a mass demonstration to protest against service delivery issues relating to the alleged contaminated water in the area. Participants are expected to conduct a shutdown of the town. Therefore, all business outlets have been urged to suspend operations for the duration of the day. Demonstrators are also expected to deliver a Memorandum of Demands (MoD) to municipality officials during the protest. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant when travelling in affected areas as ground travel disruptions are likely. Authorities are expected to monitor the event.
• DE DEUR – 16 MAY 2022 (07H25) Taxi disputes reported at the intersection of R551 and R82. Reports indicate that the taxi associations are engaged in an exchange of fire. Previous reports indicate that the Meyerton Taxi Association (MATA) and Faraday Taxi Association have ongoing disputes due to taxi routes. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• VANDERBIJLPARK – 16 MAY 2022 (07H40) Protest reported on Nobel Boulevard near Nhlapo Scrap Metal. The demonstrators have blockaded the road towards ArcelorMittal South Africa. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 16 MAY 2022
• PIETERMARITZBURG – 15 MAY 2022 (21H40) KwaZulu-Natal Health authorities have confirmed the death of a resident after being diagnosed with Lassa fever following a recent visit to Nigeria. The deceased had reportedly fallen ill following his return to South Africa and was shortly thereafter hospitalised in Pietermaritzburg. The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has stated that no secondary cases have since been detected, with further tracing of possible contact cases currently underway.
• ESTCOURT – 16 MAY 2022 (05H05) Former Spokesperson of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans’ Association (MKMVA), Carl Niehaus, is expected to appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court from today, 16 May, until Tuesday, 17 May 2022. Niehaus will appear in court for the alleged contravention of COVID-19 regulations. The Carl Niehaus Support Group is expected to protest outside the court during the proceedings.
• LOUWSBURG – 16 MAY 2022 (06H30) Protest reported on the R69. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• RICHARDS BAY – 16 MAY 2022 (06H40) Protest reported at Mandlazini crossing towards Richards Bay Minerals. The reason for the protest is unknown at this stage. The demonstrators have blockaded the road with two buses and a truck. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• EZINQOLENI – 16 MAY 2022 (07H00) Protest reported on the road between Port Edward and Ezinqoleni. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. • STANGER – 16 MAY 2022 (09H00) Protest reported at the intersection of Mahatma Ghandi Street and Chief Albert Luthuli Street. Employees of KwaDukuza Municipality are protesting due to labour-related matters. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

• MUSINA – 16 MAY 2022 (06H55) Protest reported on the N1 in Musina. Community members are protesting due to poor service delivery related to water outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 16 MAY 2022
• MBOMBELA/ NELSPRUIT – 15 MAY 2022 (19H40) The African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga have suspended Philemon Lukhele from his party membership. This follows as Lukhele is currently on trial for allegedly being involved in the murder of EFF leader Godrich Gardee’s daughter, Hillary Gardee. The ANC has stated that recent investigations have indicated that Lukhele obtained his membership irregularly and that he does not meet the membership requirements as he is not a South African national. Lukhele has also been suspended from his senior researcher position in the Office of the ANC Chief Whip. Lukhele is facing charges relating to murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, possession of an illegal firearm and defeating the ends of justice.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 16 MAY 2022
• KLERKSDORP – 15 MAY 2022 (19H30) The Matlosana Local Municipality has issued a statement informing residents of the Municipality as well as residents in the JB Marks Municipality of expected water supply interruptions as a result of recent cable theft incidents in the area. The JB Marks Municipality has stated that an electrical maintenance team has been dispatched to commence repair operations. The estimated time of recovery has not yet been determined. The Municipality has noted that relevant updates will be provided as the situation progresses.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 16 MAY 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 15 MAY 2022 (19H00) Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul is scheduled to lead a provincial delegation on a working visit to Barcelona, Spain, and Berlin, Germany, from today, 15 May 2022, until Friday, 20 May 2022. During the working trip, the delegation is expected to attend the Green Hydrogen Global Assembly and Exhibition at the Barcelona International Convention Centre. Office of the Premier Spokesperson Bronwyn Thomas-Abrahams has stated that the assembly is also expected to showcase green hydrogen projects such as the Boegoebaai Port and Rail project and the planned Green Hydrogen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the Northern Cape. Thomas-Abrahams has noted that subsequent meetings are also expected to include discussions with business entities and Government agencies in Berlin. The Premier is expected to be accompanied by senior officials from the Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

• CAPE TOWN – 15 MAY 2022 (20H35) Shooting reported on Harmonica Street in the vicinity of Harmony Primary School in Retreat, Cape Town. Reports indicate that a gang-related shooting is underway in the area. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
• CAPE TOWN – 15 MAY 2022 (20H50) Fire reported in the vicinity of the Siqalo informal settlement next to Jakes Gerwel Drive in Cape Town. Reports indicate that several informal housing structures are currently on fire. The reason for the fire remains undetermined at this time. Emergency services are on the scene. • CAPE TOWN – 15 MAY 2022 (21H15) Shooting reported at the corner of Perth Road and Rooikrans Avenue in the vicinity of Grassy Park, Cape Town. Local reports of shots being fired have emerged. • CAPE TOWN – 15 MAY 2022 (21H20) Shooting reported on Jersey Street in the vicinity of Westridge, Cape Town. An unconfirmed number of armed suspects have reportedly shot three victims in the area. The motive for the shooting remains undetermined at this time. Reports indicate that two victims have sustained minor injuries, and one victim is in a critical condition. • CAPE TOWN – 15 MAY 2022 (22H30) Road closure reported on Airport Approach Road at the N2 Outbound offramp in Guguletu, Cape Town.
