SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 19 APR 2022
• TARKASTAD – 19 APR 2022 (07H45) The African National Congress (ANC) in the Chris Hani region is expected to hold the Siyabonga Rally today, 19 April 2022, at the Zola Sports Stadium from 14H00. The ANC members are also expected to hold a political briefing from 10H30 at the Zola Hall, followed by a door-to-door campaign at 11H00 in Tarkastad before proceeding to the stadium. The ANC Provincial Convener, Oscar Mabuyane, and the Regional Chairperson, Wongama Gela, are expected to address during the rally. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant.
• BETHELSDORP – 19 APR 2022 (14H30) Hijacking reported at Sanctor High School’s vehicle parking area in Bethelsdorp today, 19 April 2022, at 07H25. A teacher at the school has been hijacked by three armed suspects. The suspects attempted to kidnap the teacher. However, the suspects decided to leave the teacher. The suspects fled the scene. Police are investigating the matter.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 19 APR 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 19 APR 2022 (18H00) Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, and Deputy Finance Minister, David Masondo, are expected to lead a follow-up engagement with the Mangaung Executive Council and community organisations in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, 20 April 2022. This follows the approval by Cabinet to place the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality under national intervention. The intervention is meant to improve the financial capacity of Mangaung Municipality.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 19 APR 2022
• JOHANNESBURG – 19 APR 2022 (00H10) Gauteng Provincial Government has announced the passing of Acting Director-General Thabo Masebe. Masebe has worked in the Presidency as former Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe’s Spokesperson. Following this, he was appointed as the Head of Communications in the Gauteng Provincial Government. The Government is expected to nominate a successor.
• BOKSBURG – 19 APR 2022 (06H20) Protest expected by the community members of Dawn Park today, 19 April 2022, from 17H00. The demonstrators are expected to gather on the corner of Sable Street and West Central Street and march to Sunward Park High School. The demonstrators are expected to protest against poor service delivery related to power outages and infrastructure. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• JOHANNESBURG – 19 APR 2022 (08H00) Fire reported on Claim Street in Hillbrow. Reports indicate that a building has caught fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area. Emergency services have been dispatched.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 19 APR 2022 (10H20) The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is expected to brief the media today, 19 April 2022, from 11H30. The Minister is expected to brief on the declaration of a National State of Disaster due to the magnitude and severity of the damage caused by the severe weather events occurring in various municipal areas of the KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and other provinces that resulted in the loss of life and damage to property, infrastructure and the environment caused by heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and landslides. All the state organs will strengthen support to existing structures to implement contingency arrangements and ensure that measures are put in place to enable the country to deal with the effects of the disaster effectively.
• SANDTON – 19 APR 2022 (13H45) UPDATE Eskom stated that it expects the units to come back into operation by Thursday evening, 21 April 2022, before loadshedding is suspended. The cold weather and persistent rain caused an increased demand and disrupted its planned maintenance schedule. Eskom has called for an acceleration of efforts to allow Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to provide additional capacity to the grid. (08H20) Eskom has announced that stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented from today, 19 April 2022. Eskom stated that the implementation of stage 4 followed after Majuba Unit 5 and Tutuka Unit 4 tripped.
• RANDBURG – 19 APR 2022 (16H05) UPDATE Seven suspects appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder of Zimbabwean national Elvis Nyathi. Fourteen suspects were initially arrested. However, after prosecutors went through the contents of the docket, it was decided there was insufficient evidence against the other seven. The suspects face charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and extortion. The seven suspects will remain in custody until 22 April 2022 for them to acquire legal representation. (14H45) Fourteen suspects are expected to appear at the Randburg Magistrate Court today, 19 April 2022, on charges of murder. This follows after the suspects’ alleged involvement in the killing of Zimbabwean national Elvis Nyathi in Diepsloot as part of an act of vigilantism.
• RANDFONTEIN – 19 APR 2022 (16H50) Operation Dudula is expected to hold a meeting at Mohlakeng Four Square taxi rank on Thursday, 21 April 2022, from 17H00. The members are expected to discuss the launch of an Operation Dudula branch in the area. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the meeting.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 19 APR 2022
• KWAMASHU – 19 APR 2022 (06H45) Protest reported at the intersection of Malendela Road and Queen Nandi Drive. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• TONGAAT – 19 APR 2022 (09H30) Protest reported on Genazzano Road towards the M4. Residents of Seatides informal settlement are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the scene and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• GOLELA – 19 APR 2022 (11H20) UPDATE Demonstrations reported at the Golela Border Post. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (06H05) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) today, 19 April 2022, from 10H00 at the Golela Border Post. Demonstrators are expected to protest in demand for democratic reforms and the release of political prisoners in eSwatini. Motorists are advised of potential ground travel disruptions during the demonstration. Police are expected to be deployed in the area during the event.
• KWAMASHU – 19 APR 2022 (15H20) Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the looting of a truck on Dumisani Makhaye Drive between Newlands and KwaMashu on Monday, 18 April 2022. Community members from Newlands East area had been protesting on Dumisani Makhaye Drive. The truck was carrying grocery items en route to a shopping centre. The protestors stopped the truck and looted the freight. KwaMashu Police dispersed the protestors. KwaMashu Police have opened a case of public violence for investigation.
• DURBAN – 19 APR 2022 (16H30) Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan announced the reopening of Durban Port today, 19 April 2022, after conducting an assessment of the damage caused to the area by flooding. Gordhan stated that backlogs still need to be cleared at ports and that considerable damage to the rail network linked to the port needs to be repaired. Most of the problems that affected the railway line between eThekwini and Cato Ridge should be resolved within the next nine days. Mudslides and the collapse of embankments have hit parts of the rail network. The foundation below stretches of up to 100 metres in railway line have fallen away and need to be filled up again with sand. Approximately 8,000 to 9,000 containers have been accumulated at the port due to trucks that could not reach the harbour areas. Transnet was able to respond to consumers’ need for fuel by using the Bluff area near the port. Trucks were allowed to move through Bluff to access Island View, where the petrochemical facilities are located. Gordhan stated that there is no risk of fuel shortage, and the pipeline is now functional.
• UTRECHT – 19 APR 2022 (17H20) Road closure reported on the R34 between Utrecht and Newcastle. The road is closed due to a motor vehicle accident. Recovery is in progress. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 19 APR 2022
• PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 19 APR 2022 (08H40) The Seshego magistrate’s court is expected to hand down the court trial date of Themba Prince Willard Dube, who is accused of kidnapping and murdering seven women, on Tuesday, 26 April 2022. The case will then be moved to the Polokwane High Court to begin the trial.
• POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 19 APR 2022 (16H00) The South African Human Rights Commission in Limpopo stated that it is not concerned with the existence of Operation Dudula Movement in the province. However, it encourages everyone to act within the ambit of the law. This as the movement is expected to launch its provincial structure in Limpopo by the end of April 2022, with a temporary provincial structure already been elected in Polokwane late last week. The human rights commission’s Provincial Manager, Victor Mavhidula, stated that they do not expect the launch of the movement will cause unrest.
• MOGALAKWENA – 19 APR 2022 (16H15) The Mogalakwena Mining Communities are calling on Anglo American Platinum’s Mogalakwena Mine to hold consultations with residents of Ga-Masenya in Sandsloot and Leruleng regarding the communal land that the mine wants to occupy for its projects. The members held a picket outside the mine earlier today, 19 April 2022, calling for the management to implement Section 54 of the mining notice. The Mogalakwena Mining Communities Advisor, Aubrey Langa stated that they are opposed to the mining company’s alleged plans to remove people from their residences in Leruleng without consulting the community and reaching an agreement.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 19 APR 2022
• MANANGA – 19 APR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected at the Mananga border post between Lubombo, eSwatini and Mpumalanga, South Africa, from 09H00 on today, 19 April 2022, by members of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Swaziland (EFFSWA). • GANYESA – 19 APR 2022 (12H55) Protest reported outside the Kagisano Molopo Local Municipality offices in Ganyesa. Residents have closed the Municipal offices. The demonstrators are protesting to demand the removal of the Municipal Manager and the Speaker. The demonstrators have barricaded the area. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 19 APR 2022
• STRYDENBURG – 19 APR 2022 (09H15) The Strydenburg community members have announced plans to protest at the Strydenburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 20 April 2022. This follows after the community postponed their planned march on Wednesday, 13 April 2022. The community is expected to protest to demand justice for Natasha Goeieman, who was killed by Anthony Harris Samson. The community also demands the accused be denied bail. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 19 APR 2022
• CAPE TOWN – 19 APR 2022 (06H15) Peaceful protest expected at Kromboom Bridge today, 19 April 2022, from 17H00. Demonstrators are expected to protest in solidarity with the Palestinians. The demonstrators are expected to disperse from 18H00. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• CAPE TOWN – 19 APR 2022 (17H00) Police have arrested two suspects for the possession of suspected stolen property in Maitland. This is part of operations by law enforcement agencies to address cable theft in the area. The first suspect is the manager of a scrap metal company. The suspect is detained on a charge of contravention of the Second Goods Act by failing to keep scrap metal items bought for seven days. The second suspect from a different scrap metal company has been arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and failure to separate metal bought as prescribed in the Second Goods Act. A written warning has also been issued to a third scrap metal company for failure to mark metal items received, also stipulated in the Act. The Police seized 2,4 tons of cable identified as the property of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).
