SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 20 APR 2022
• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 20 APR 2022 (03H00) The African National Congress (ANC) has postponed its Easter Cape Elective conference scheduled for Friday, 22 April 2022. This expectedly follows after a brief meeting with the ANC Eastern Cape Provincial Working Task Team (PWTT) on Tuesday, 19 April 2022. The party postponed the meeting due to internal disputes. This caused the delayed signing of the verification report by the Acting Secretary-General. The PWTT is expected to announce the new assembly date.
• NGCOBO – 20 APR 2022 (06H10) Protest expected at the Engcobo Municipality today, 20 April 2022. Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Independent South African National Civic Organization and community members will be protesting due to service delivery and labour related challenges. Demonstrators are expected to gather at the Old Mthatha Taxi Rank from 07H00. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are aware of the planned protest.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 20 APR 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 20 APR 2022 (06H25) Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, and Deputy Finance Minister, David Masondo, are expected to lead a follow-up engagement with the Mangaung Executive Council and community organisations in Bloemfontein today, 20 April 2022. This follows the approval by Cabinet to place the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality under national intervention. The intervention is meant to improve the financial capacity of Mangaung Municipality.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 20 APR 2022
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 19 APR 2022 (19H00) Former Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zolani Matthews is allowed to return to office following an arbitration ruling in his favour. Matthews was placed on precautionary suspension in November 2021 over a security clearance issue that was related to his dual citizenship. Matthews’s United Kingdom (UK) citizenship was reportedly not disclosed to PRASA upon his appointment. Matthews’s contract of employment was later terminated when the State Security Agency (SSA) declined his top security clearance. Matthews took the matter to the Labour Court in Johannesburg in December 2021, seeking an interdict against the finalisation of his dismissal. The matter was withdrawn from the Labour Court and referred to private arbitration under the auspices of the Arbitration Foundation in February 2022. The arbitration found that Matthews should be reinstated.
• VANDERBIJLPARK – 19 APR 2022 (19H45) Protest reported on Langenhoven Street near Turbo Motors and on the R57 at Curie Boulevard. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police have been dispatched to the scene. Historically, demonstrators protested due to poor service delivery in the area.
• GERMISTON – 20 APR 2022 (07H40) Protest reported on Heidelberg Road in the vicinity of Pick n Pay Store in Elspark. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to power outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• WESTONARIA – 20 APR 2022 (08H20) Protest reported in Glenharvie in Westonaria. Members affiliated with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) are protesting due to salary disputes. The demonstrators demand a R1,000 wage increase for the lowest-paid workers and a 6% increase for artisans, miners and officials. The demonstrators are marching in various areas in Glenharvie. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• SANDTON – 20 APR 2022 (08H35) The Eskom Group Chief Executive, André de Ruyter, is expected to hold a media brief today, 20 April 2022, from 10H00 until 11H00. During the brief, Eskom’s management team is expected to provide an update on the current system challenges.
• SOWETO – 20 APR 2022 (09H10) Police Minister, Bheke Cele, is expected to visit the Kliptown Police Station today, 20 April 2022, from 10H30. Cele is expected to receive a briefing from the Provincial South African Police Service (SAPS) led by Gauteng Provincial Commissioner-General, Elias Mawela, on the shooting incidents and also outline a workable solution to the growing illegal activities in the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 20 APR 2022
• PINETOWN – 19 APR 2022 (19H40) UPDATE An explosion has occurred at the Klaarwater substation in Mariann Industrial Park. Areas from Shallcross to Hillcrest are experiencing power outages. (20H25) Fire reported at a substation in Mariannhill. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. The Fire Department has been dispatched to the scene. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
• VERULAM – 20 APR 2022 (06H30) Protest reported on Redcliffe Drive. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• MOOI RIVER – 20 APR 2022 (09H40) Road closure on the N3 near Mooi River due to a Heavy Motor Vehicle accident. Reports indicated that the truck has caught fire. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 20 APR 2022
• POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 19 APR 2022 (20H10) Motorists are advised to be vigilant on Nelson Mandela Drive at Extension 44, Disteneng, outside Polokwane due to potential hijackers. This follows after three armed suspects wearing balaclavas have been spotted on the road attempting to hijack motorists. Chairperson of the Seshego Community Against Crime and Gangsterism Vincent Kunutu stated that they received several calls from motorists who were almost hijacked at gunpoint in the same area. Police are aware of the situation.
• LEPHALALE – 20 APR 2022 (09H20) The Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts is expected to conduct an oversight visit at the Eskom’s Medupi and Kusile Power Stations today, 20 April and Thursday, 21 April 2022. The Members of Parliament (MPs) are also expected to meet Eskom’s board and management on Friday, 22 April 2022, following the visits to the two power stations.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 20 APR 2022
• MIDDELBURG – 19 APR 2022 (20H00) UPDATE The N4 between Alzu Petroport and Arnot interchange has been reopened to traffic. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (17H20) Road closure reported on the N4 between Alzu Petroport and Arnot interchange in Middelburg. The road is closed due to a motor vehicle accident. Recovery is in progress. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 20 APR 2022
• ORKNEY – 19 APR 2022 (19H30) A total of 77 illegal miners appeared in the Orkney Magistrate’s Court today, 19 April 2022, on charges of trespassing, illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act. This follows after law enforcement held a rescue mission from Thursday, 14 April to Monday, 18 April 2022. A multidisciplinary team rescued the illegal miners from the underground and later arrested them. Four bodies have also been brought up from the shaft in Orkney. The illegal miners asked mine management to help them get out of a mine shaft.
• VYRBURG – 20 APR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by the Naledi Community Against Crime (NCAC) members today, 20 April 2022. The NCAC members are expected to begin marching from 08H30 from Huhudi Stadium, Colour Block taxi rank and Colridge Stadium. The demonstrators will then gather at Stellalander Park from 10H00 and march to the Vryburg Magistrates Court. The demonstrators are expected to protest against poor service delivery, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), high crime rate and corruption in the government systems. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be dispatched to monitor the area during the protest.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 20 APR 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 20 APR 2022 (08H50) The Democratic Alliance (DA) member, Michael Kaars, has been sworn in as a Northern Cape Provincial Legislature member by Speaker Newrene Klaaste. Kaars is expected to replace former DA Provincial Leader Andrew Louw, who resigned as a Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) on Friday, 04 March 2022, to pursue business interests.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 20 APR 2022
• MOSSEL BAY – 20 APR 2022 (07H55) The Minister of Small Business Development, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and Deputy Minister Sidumo Dlamini are expected to lead the countrywide roadshows scheduled in the province today, 20 April 2022, until Friday, 22 April 2022, from 09H00. The roadshows are expected to begin at the Mossel Bay Town Hall and end at the Solomon Mahlangu Sports and Recreation Centre. The purpose of the roadshows is to showcase the work of the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD), its agencies and other strategic government departments involved in the development of Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), monitor the support and impact on SMMEs through the interventions by the government, share challenges and listen to success stories of entrepreneurs in various districts across the country to improve government support and to better coordinate support for SMMEs through partnerships with the private sector and various departments and agencies.
