SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 20 APR 2022
• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 20 APR 2022 (03H00) The African National Congress (ANC) has postponed its Easter Cape Elective conference scheduled for Friday, 22 April 2022. This expectedly follows after a brief meeting with the ANC Eastern Cape Provincial Working Task Team (PWTT) on Tuesday, 19 April 2022. The party postponed the meeting due to internal disputes. This caused the delayed signing of the verification report by the Acting Secretary-General. The PWTT is expected to announce the new assembly date.
• NGCOBO – 20 APR 2022 (06H10) Protest expected at the Engcobo Municipality today, 20 April 2022. Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Independent South African National Civic Organization and community members will be protesting due to service delivery and labour related challenges. Demonstrators are expected to gather at the Old Mthatha Taxi Rank from 07H00. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are aware of the planned protest.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 20 APR 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 20 APR 2022 (06H25) Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, and Deputy Finance Minister, David Masondo, are expected to lead a follow-up engagement with the Mangaung Executive Council and community organisations in Bloemfontein today, 20 April 2022. This follows the approval by Cabinet to place the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality under national intervention. The intervention is meant to improve the financial capacity of Mangaung Municipality.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 20 APR 2022
• GERMISTON – 20 APR 2022 (07H40) Protest reported on Heidelberg Road in the vicinity of Pick n Pay Store in Elspark. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to power outages. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• WESTONARIA – 20 APR 2022 (08H20) Protest reported in Glenharvie in Westonaria. Members affiliated with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) are protesting due to salary disputes. The demonstrators demand a R1,000 wage increase for the lowest-paid workers and a 6% increase for artisans, miners and officials. The demonstrators are marching in various areas in Glenharvie. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• SANDTON – 20 APR 2022 (08H35) The Eskom Group Chief Executive, André de Ruyter, is expected to hold a media brief today, 20 April 2022, from 10H00 until 11H00. During the brief, Eskom’s management team is expected to provide an update on the current system challenges.
• SOSHANGUVE – 20 APR 2022 (11H20) The City of Tshwane has announced a planned power supply interruption in Soshanguve on Monday, 25 April 2022, from 06H00 until 20H00. The Municipality stated Eskom is expected to shut down the Buffel Infeed Substation to conduct routine maintenance and upgrade work. The Municipality stated that it will provide updates as the situation progresses.
• VANDERBIJLPARK – 20 APR 2022 (11H30) Protest reported on Delfos Boulevard. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• JOHANNESBURG – 20 APR 2022 (12H40) Protest expected by the members of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) on Wednesday, 27 April 2022. The ACDP members are expected to gather at Beyers Naude Square from 10H00 and march to Constitutional Court. The demonstrators are expected to protest to defend the constitutional rights and freedoms of all South Africans. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demand to the Minister of Justice. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 20 APR 2022 (13H15) The Executive Mayor, Randal Williams of the City of Tshwane, is expected to deliver the State of the Capital Address on Thursday, 21 April 2022, from 11H00. The address is expected to focus on City’s plans for the year ahead.
• BENONI – 20 APR 2022 (14H45) Twelve suspects appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on six counts of attempted murder, three counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, five counts of possession of an unlicensed firearm, two for possession of ammunition and being in South Africa illegally. This follows after the suspects attempted to rob a transport company in Benoni on 16 April 2022. The case has been postponed to 26 April 2022, for the accused to appoint a legal representative.
• SANDTON – 20 APR 2022 (14H50) Eskom announced that loadshedding will be reduced to stage 3 at 22H00 today, 20 April 2022, until Friday, 22 April 2022. Eskom has returned six generation units to service in the past 24 hours. Eskom will continue to adjust the stage of loadshedding depending on the level of breakdowns. A generation unit each at the Arnot and Kendal power stations returned to service during the day, adding to the two units, and one each at Camden and Matla power stations that returned to service. A unit each at the Majuba, Matimba and Arnot power stations is expected to return to service on Thursday, 21 April 2022.
• CARLETONVILLE – 20 APR 2022 (15H10) Protest reported on the R501 at the bridge between Welverdiend and Oberholzer in Carletonville. Demonstrators are barricading the road with rocks. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
• SOWETO – 20 APR 2022 (14H45) UPDATE Police Minister Bheki Cele has given Gauteng Police Commissioner, Elias Mawela 48 hours to arrest those behind the murder of Soweto resident, Kgomotso Diale. (15H45) Police Minister Bheki Cele has given Gauteng Police Commissioner, Elias Mawela 48 hours to arrest those behind the murder of Soweto resident, Kgomotso Diale. (13H45) Police Minister Bheke Cele is addressing Pimville residents. Cele announced that the Kliptown Police Station will have an additional ten vehicles and that a 12 member Police detective team has been assigned to investigate the shooting of six people at Chicken Farm in Soweto and the death of Khomotso Diale. (13H20) Residents of Pimville have gathered outside the residence of a man who was shot and killed on Monday, 18 April 2022. Minister is expected to address the residents. Operation Dudula Leader Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini and other leaders have joined the gathering. (09H10) Police Minister, Bheke Cele, is expected to visit the Kliptown Police Station today, 20 April 2022, from 10H30. Cele is expected to receive a briefing from the Provincial South African Police Service (SAPS) led by Gauteng Provincial Commissioner-General, Elias Mawela, on the shooting incidents and also outline a workable solution to the growing illegal activities in the area.
• KATLEHONG – 20 APR 2022 (16H20) Cash in transit (CIT) robbery reported on Rhine Street in Palm Ridge. Suspects are attempting to rob an armoured vehicle cross-pavement. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
• SOWETO – 20 APR 2022 (17H30) City Power announced that the second transformer at Eldorado Park substation exploded and caused the first transformer to trip today, 20 April 2022. The fire has been extinguished by the Fire Department. This follows after City Power returned the first transformer to service on Tuesday afternoon, 19 April 2022. The power supply for customers in Freedom Park, Mpumelelo and Devland has been restored by switching to another substation.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 20 APR 2022 (18H00) The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) has welcomed the decision by the South African Local Government Bargaining Council (SALGBC) today, 20 April 2022, to dismiss the appeal lodged by the City of Tshwane. This follows after the City failed to pay salary increases for municipal workers as agreed to in a collective agreement with parties in September 2021. The City lodged an application with the SALGBC to be exempted from paying the salary increases in line with the collective agreement. The application, which was heard by the Senior Panelist on 08 April 2022, has been dismissed.

• VERULAM – 20 APR 2022 (06H30) Protest reported on Redcliffe Drive. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • MOOI RIVER – 20 APR 2022 (09H40) Road closure on the N3 near Mooi River due to a Heavy Motor Vehicle accident. Reports indicated that the truck has caught fire. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services have been dispatched.
• PIETERMARITZBURG – 20 APR 2022 (14H15) Business robbery reported at Spar Tops on Mayor’s Walk Road in Prestberry. Seven armed suspects robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of money and items. The suspects fled the scene in two sedan vehicles. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
• DURBAN – 20 APR 2022 (16H45) The African Union (AU) has donated R2.26-million from its Emergency Fund for the South African Government’s emergency response and rescue of those affected by the floods in KwaZulu-Natal. The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General and regional leaders stated that they stood in solidarity with South Africa. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is yet to draft a regional plan to assist South Africa.

• LEPHALALE – 20 APR 2022 (09H20) The Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts is expected to conduct an oversight visit at the Eskom’s Medupi and Kusile Power Stations today, 20 April and Thursday, 21 April 2022. The Members of Parliament (MPs) are also expected to meet Eskom’s board and management on Friday, 22 April 2022, following the visits to the two power stations.

• WAKKERSTROOM – 20 April 2022 (16H10) Police Minister Bheki Cele and Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Executive Director, Jennifer Ntlatseng are expected to host a community Imbizo at Esizameleni Soccer Field on Friday, 22 April 2022, at 10H00. Wakkerstroom is marred by high unemployment, crime, human rights abuse and stock theft.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 20 APR 2022
• VYRBURG – 20 APR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by the Naledi Community Against Crime (NCAC) members today, 20 April 2022. The NCAC members are expected to begin marching from 08H30 from Huhudi Stadium, Colour Block taxi rank and Colridge Stadium. The demonstrators will then gather at Stellalander Park from 10H00 and march to the Vryburg Magistrates Court. The demonstrators are expected to protest against poor service delivery, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), high crime rate and corruption in the government systems. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be dispatched to monitor the area during the protest.
• GANYESA – 20 APR 2022 (12H30) Protest reported outside the Kagisano Molopo Municipality. The demonstrators have blocked the area. The demonstrators have set alight a municipal vehicle and water tanks. The demonstrators are protesting to demand the Municipal Manager and Speaker of Council to step down. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 20 APR 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 20 APR 2022 (08H50) The Democratic Alliance (DA) member, Michael Kaars, has been sworn in as a Northern Cape Provincial Legislature member by Speaker Newrene Klaaste. Kaars is expected to replace former DA Provincial Leader Andrew Louw, who resigned as a Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) on Friday, 04 March 2022, to pursue business interests.
• DELPORTSHOOP – 20 APR 2022 (11H35) Protest reported on the R31 in Delportshoop. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Previous demonstrations have been related to poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• KIMBERLEY – 20 APR 2022 (11H55) The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for possible wildfire conditions in several regions of the Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces from today, 20 April 2022. The following areas are expected to be affected, Stellenbosch, Matzikama, Vredendal, Richtersveld, Alexander Bay, Kamiesberg and Garies.

• MOSSEL BAY – 20 APR 2022 (07H55) The Minister of Small Business Development, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and Deputy Minister Sidumo Dlamini are expected to lead the countrywide roadshows scheduled in the province today, 20 April 2022, until Friday, 22 April 2022, from 09H00. The roadshows are expected to begin at the Mossel Bay Town Hall and end at the Solomon Mahlangu Sports and Recreation Centre. The purpose of the roadshows is to showcase the work of the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD), its agencies and other strategic government departments involved in the development of Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), monitor the support and impact on SMMEs through the interventions by the government, share challenges and listen to success stories of entrepreneurs in various districts across the country to improve government support and to better coordinate support for SMMEs through partnerships with the private sector and various departments and agencies.
• CAPE TOWN – 20 APR 2022 (14H30) Former member of the National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) board, Peter Becker, has challenged his dismissal by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy. Becker is seeking declaratory relief that the Minister’s decision to discharge him was unlawful and unconstitutional, and wants an order reviewing and setting aside this decision. Becker was suspended in January 2022 before the regulator approved the extension of life project for the Koeberg nuclear power station. The Minister has 15 days to submit a record of proceedings, the documents, evidence, arguments and other information relating to the dismissal. Failing to provide the documentation, a court date will be set.
• CAPE TOWN – 20 APR 2022 (18H20) A suspect appeared in the Khayelitsha Magistrate Court today, 20 April 2022, in connection with the fatal shooting of five people in the Enkanini informal settlement in March 2022. The accused have been charged with five counts of murder. The case has been postponed until 26 April 2022 for bail information and verification of an alternative address. Police are continuing the search for the remaining suspects involved in the shooting.
