SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 21 MAR 2022

  • EAST LONDON – 21 MAR 2022 (14H30) UPDATE The N2 near Kwelera between East London and Kei Bridge remain closed to traffic. Two casualties have been reported, and eighteen people have sustained injuries. The injured have been transported to Frere Hospital. Search, rescue, and recovery personnel remain on the scene. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (09H35) Road closure reported on the N2 between East London and Mthatha in the Brakfontein area due to a tanker explosion following an accident with a bus. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.
  • KARIEGA – 21 MAR 2022 (16H00) UPDATE Secretary-General (SG), Marshall Dlamini, is addressing the supporters. (13H45) The Uitenhage Massacre Commemoration Rally has begun at the Jabavu Sports Ground. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (06H10) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold its Uitenhage Massacre Commemoration Rally on Monday, 21 March 2022, from 12H00 at the Jabavu Sports Ground. The Secretary-General (SG), Marshall Dlamini, is expected to address during the rally.
  • PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 21 MAR 2022 (17H00) UPDATE The DA has delivered their memorandum of demands. Demonstrators have dispersed outside Port Elizabeth City Hall. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (11H00) Protest reported outside the Port Elizabeth City Hall. Members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) are protesting against poor service delivery related to water outages. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum demanding immediate action by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant. Police are on the scene.
  • PATERSON – 21 MAR 2022 (18H20) Road closure reported on the N10 outside Paterson heading towards East Bank. The road is closed due to a motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene. Recovery is in progress.

  • ODENDAALSRUS – 21 MAR 2022 (06H35) Protest expected at Kutloanong Community Hall today, 21 March 2022 at 10H00. Demonstrators will be protesting against xenophobia in South Africa. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police are aware of the protest.
  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 21 MAR 2022 (12H40) Protest expected by the members of the Mangaung Service Delivery Forum (MSDF) on Thursday, 24 March 2022, until Friday, 25 March 2022. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Paradise Hall from 09H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against corruption, poor service delivery, unemployment. The demonstrators demand the absorption of Security officers, access to land and local economic development. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 21 MAR 2022

  • JOHANNESBURG – 21 MAR 2022 (01H00) The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has prohibited an application for the demonstration by the anti-xenophobia group Kopanang Africa scheduled for today, 21 March 2022. Kopanang developed in response to ongoing attacks on foreign nationals. The protest has been cancelled due to safety following several violent protests in various communities, including Operation Dudula in Soweto and the Alexandra Dudula movement. A member of the organisation Dale McKinley, stated that Operation Dudula has been threatening Kopanag Africa not to demonstrate.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 21 MAR 2022 (06H05) Protest expected by members affiliated with the South African Informal Traders Alliance (SAITA) today, 21 March 2022, from 13H00 at the Union Building. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand the Government to honour the Government Gazette that calls to waiver permit costs and remove excessive regulation procedures for small businesses. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum to the office of the President. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 21 MAR 2022 (06H15) Protest expected today, 21 March 2022 from 09H00. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Pieter Roos Park and march to Museum Africa. The demonstrators are expected to protest against the migrations laws of the country. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 21 MAR 2020 (06H20) Peaceful protest expected by members of Kopanang Africa Against Xenophobia movement today, 21 March 2022, at the office of the Premier. The demonstrators are expected to march through Hillbrow to raise awareness of attacks on immigrants. The demonstrators will also march to the Premier’s office to hand over a memorandum of demands. This is in response to recent actions by groups operating under the banner of Operation Dudula, who have been attacking immigrants working in the informal sector. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 21 MAR 2022 (11H15) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport, Jacob Mamabolo, has called an urgent meeting with e-hailing drivers in the province following their call for a three-day national strike expected to begin on Tuesday, 22 March 2022. The drivers are expected to protest due to the refusal of e-hailing companies adjustment to prices and fuel prices.
  • VEREENIGING – 21 MAR 2022 (15H45) The EFF leader Julius Malema is addressing supporters at Dlomo Dam in Sharpeville. (06H30) The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) are expected to hold a Sharpeville Commemoration Rally today, 21 March 2022, from 12H00 at the Dlomo Dam. The Chief in Command (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to address the EFF members during the rally.
  • TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 21 MAR 2022 (16H15) UPDATE The ACDP has delivered the memorandum of demands at the Union Buildings. Demonstrators have dispersed from the scene. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (12H50) Members of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) are marching to the Union Buildings against mandatory vaccinations. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (07H30) Protest expected today, 21 March 2022, at the Union Buildings. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Church Square from 10H00 and march to the Union Buildings. The demonstrators are expected to demonstrate to raise awareness and promote the Constitution and call South Africans to band together and unite to protect and promote the ideologies of the Constitution and hold all Chapter 9 institutions to deliver fully on their mandate. SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 21 MAR 2022

  • NEWCASTLE – 21 MAR 2022 (08H45) The Home Affairs Deputy Minister Njabulo Nzuza, accompanied by Health Deputy Minister Sibongiseni Dhlomo, are expected to visit the Newcastle Provincial Hospital on Friday, 25 March 2022, from 10H00. The visit is part of the Government’s effort to bring public services closer to where people live in an integrated and coordinated way. During the visit, Deputy Minister Nzuza will officially open the Home Affairs Civil Registration Facility located onsite.
  • DURBAN – 21 MAR 2022 (13H20) National industrial strike expected by e-hailing operators on Tuesday, 22 March 2022 until Thursday, 24 March 2022. Demonstrators will be protesting against low fares, rising fuel prices, data costs, vehicle maintenance, robberies and a high commission structure, alleged harassment by road traffic officials and minibus taxi drivers. The demonstrators are expected to gather in the vicinity of George Campbell School of Technology and march to the City Hall to hand over a memorandum. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 21 MAR 2022

  • MODIMOLLE – 21 MAR 2022 (09H00) The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Pinky Kekana, is expected to visit service delivery sites in the Waterberg District Municipality from Tuesday, 22 March 2022, until Thursday, 24 March 2022. Kekana is expected to officiate the opening of two 4IR Learner Boot Camps at Mabogopedi High School and Thekganang High School Camp, introducing learners to digital skills such as coding, robotics, cloud computing and cybersecurity. Kekana will also visit MGR Hospital in Modimolle to facilitate a discussion with Health care workers from Modimolle-Mookgophong and Bela-Bela Local Municipalities on vaccine intake hesitancy.
  • PHALABORWA – 21 MAR 2022 (14H15) Possible unrest expected at the Marula Festival scheduled on 23 March 2022. This is due to the ongoing strike at Palabora Mining Company. The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) with mining employees are protesting over the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). NUM is demanding that the mine be transparent about how much is owed to workers in shares. The mining employees are dissatisfied with the R8,900 dividends per employee. NUM is yet to reach an agreeable decision on the dividends. The mine is refusing to negotiate until NUM takes responsibility for the illegal strike on Wednesday, 16 March 2022. The Limpopo Economic Development Environment and Tourism has raised concerns for tourist safety. A heightened security presence is expected at the Marula Festival.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 21 MAR 2022

  • LEANDRA – 21 MAR 2022 (09H10) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Human Settlements, Speed Mashilo, accompanied by the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality, Executive Mayor Nhlakanipho Zuma, are expected to be hosting a feedback community engagement with Leandra residents on Tuesday, 22 March 2022, from 12H00 at the Leandra Taxi Rank. Residents are expected to receive a report on issues of infrastructure and human settlements challenges. This follows after recent visits by Mashilo in the area to have an understanding of their difficulties and make necessary interventions.

  • HEBRON – 21 MAR 2022 (10H30) Protest expected today, 21 March 2022, by the residents of Hebron. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Mmanotshe Moduane High School at 11H00 and march to the Hebron Police Station. The demonstrators are expected to protest against the high crime rate in the area and deliver a memorandum of demands at the Police station.   • KOSTER – 21 MAR 2022 (16H30) UPDATE President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for an end to campaigns against foreigners as it creates social tensions and is against the law. President Ramaphosa also called on employers not to employ undocumented migrants as it is against the law. The Government will engage employers about employing undocumented foreigners. (15H00) President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially opened the new Reagile Community Library in Koster. This is ahead of delivering the Keynote address at the Human Rights Day event. (11H15) Ramaphosa and Premier Bushy Maape have arrived at the unveiling of the Reagile Library in Koster ahead of the commemoration day keynote address. (08H10) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to give a keynote address during the National Human Rights Day Commemoration Day today, 21 March 2022, from 09H00 at the Reagile Sports Ground. The commemoration day will be held under the theme The year of renewal, protecting and preserving our human gains.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 21 MAR 2022

  • PORT NOLLOTH – 21 MAR 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by members affiliated with the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) today, 21 March 2022, at the Port Nolloth Community Health Centre. The demonstrators are expected to protest due to the failure of the Department of Health to intervene and resolve the current impasse and service delivery challenges at Port Nolloth Community Health Centre and other clinics in the Namaqua District. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are expected to monitor the area during the protest.
  • KIMBERLEY – 21 MAR 2022 (10H50) UPDATE Community members raiding undocumented foreign national businesses in the CBD. (10H10) Protest reported on Aster Road in the vicinity of Kemo Hotel. Residents are marching to the Central Business District and the Indian Centre. The demonstrators are protesting against illegal immigrants and the high crime rate related to drugs. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 21 MAR 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 21 MAR 2022 (02H40) Road closure reported on N2 inbound at Jan Smuts. The road is closed due to roadworks. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Recovery is in progress.
  • CAPE TOWN – 21 MAR 2022 (06H25) Protest expected at the Parliament Building today, 21 March 2022 at 08H30. Demonstrators will gather at Keisergrecht Street near Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) before marching to Parliament. Demonstrators will be protesting against xenophobia in South Africa. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police are aware of the protest.
  • CAPE TOWN – 21 MAR 2022 (10H05) Protest expected today, 21 March 2022 from 10H30 by residents of Bo-Kaap. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Bo-Kaap Cultural Hub and march against the high crime rate and drug use in the area.   • CAPE TOWN – 21 MAR 2022 (15H00) The Western Cape High Court has halted the construction of Amazon’s new Africa headquarters in Cape Town. This after the Khoi and San First Nations People stated that the land, it would have been built on, is sacred. The court has interdicted the project developer from continuing with works at the site until there has been meaningful engagement and consultation with affected indigenous peoples.
  • CAPE TOWN – 21 MAR 2022 (15H30) Protest reported on the M167/ Maroela Road in Kraaifontein. Demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
