SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 22 APR 2022
• GQEBERHA/ PORT ELIZABETH – 21 APR 2022 (19H10) The Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Business Chamber has warned of a high risk that 40% of the NMB Metropolitan is expected to experience water shortages by the end of May 2022. Chamber Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Denise van Huysteen has stated that the City is recording a substantial decrease in water availability, with no significant rainfall currently projected for the area. Van Huysteen has cited several failures in pump station infrastructure and recently recorded outages due to severe system strains. Furthermore, the KwaNobuhle pump station remains non-operational, with the new date of completion of the project moved to the end of June 2022.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 22 APR 2022
• WELKOM – 21 APR 2022 (19H00) Free State Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Transport William Bulwane has announced that the Department has prioritised the R31 road between Allanridge and Welkom during the 2022/2023 financial year. Bulwane made the announcement during a media briefing regarding issues surrounding infrastructure and payments of road contractors in the province. The road had previously been closed several times following numerous accidents and deaths that occurred since the beginning of 2022. Bulwane has stated that the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has requested the Department to reopen the R30 road to facilitate traffic movement during the Easter Holidays. Recent assessments have indicated that the water on the road had also been caused by leaking mine pipes in the area. Bulwane further noted that he is set to engage with the Matjhabeng Mayor, Thanduxolo Khalipha, and mine management to assist in efforts to repair the road.
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 22 APR 2022 (08H50) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to launch the Letsema campaign towards the renewal of our social contract with the people on Saturday, 23 April 2022, from 10H00 at the Toka Primary School in Turflaagte.

• PRETORIA – 21 APR 2022 (19H50) Protest reported at Vista Mamelodi Taxi rank. The protest is due to the Phomolong suburb not having electricity for the past five days. Emergency services have been dispatched. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 22 APR 2022 (06H00) The Director-General of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, Doctor Mashabane, is expected to address the media on the state of Courts in the KwaZulu-Natal Province following recent floods today, 22 April 2022, from 06H00. This follows after Mashabane visited the Province on Wednesday, 20 April 2022, to assess various courts conditions.
• SOWETO – 22 APR 2022 (07H40) Protest reported at the intersection of Golden Highway/R555 and East Street in Devland. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have obstructed the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• ROODEPOORT – 22 APR 2022 (08H00) Protest reported at Cosmo City Business Park towards Malibongwe Drive/R512. The demonstrators are protesting against employed foreign nationals. The demonstrators have obstructed the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• ROODEPOORT – 22 APR 2022 (08H40) Protest reported at the intersection of Christiaan de Wet Road and Pioneer Avenue. University of South Africa (UNISA) employees are protesting due to salary disputes. The demonstrators have obstructed the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• SANDTON – 22 APR 2022 (09H05) UPDATE The NUM and AMCU has met with Sibanye-Stillwater management to discuss the union’s demands. NUM and AMCU leadership has announced the suspension of the protest for today, 22 April 2022, pending the outcome of the meeting. (06H25) Protest expected by members affiliated with the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) today, 21 April 2022, at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in Sandton at 10H00. The demonstrators are expected to gather at the George Lee Park from 09H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand a wage increase of R1000 for surface and underground workers and a 6% increase for artisans, miners and officials. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demand. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 22 APR 2022 (09H15) UPDATE Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi has arrived in the country ahead of the Binational Commission meeting. (06H10) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to receive President Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi of Botswana today, 22 April 2022, for the Bi-National Commission of Cooperation (BNC) session between the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Botswana, which will be held at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) conference centre from 10H00. The 5th Session of the BNC will evaluate progress on all outstanding projects and the implementation of commitments of the 4th BNC and to further reaffirm the bilateral relations and enhance cooperation within the framework of the BNC. The BNC will also provide a platform to exchange views on international issues of mutual interest.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 22 APR 2022
• DURBAN – 21 APR 2022 (19H10) Police Minister Bheki Cele has announced that more than 4,800 security cluster officials have been deployed to KwaZulu-Natal to assist in emergency relief efforts. This follows a media briefing by the Government’s Justice, Crime, and Prevention Security Cluster on the progress of interventions amid the province’s floodings. More than 3,000 Police officials, including tactical response teams and search and rescue teams, are among the deployed staff. Cele has noted that Police are deployed on the ground to prevent opportunistic crimes in identified areas in communities and business centres. This includes Umlazi, KwaMashu, Pinetown, Durban Central and surroundings. Law enforcement agencies are also monitoring key national roads.
• DURBAN – 21 APR 2022 (19H40) The Chairperson of the African Union (AU), Moussa Faki Mahamat, announced the donation of R2,3 million towards relief efforts in KwaZulu-Natal in a move to bolster solidarity.
• SWIDI – 22 APR 2022 (06H10) Protest reported on the R614 in the vicinity of Sikhulie Secondary School towards Bhamshela. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • PINETOWN – 22 APR 2022 (06H30) UPDATE Road closure reported on Old Richmond Road and the M1 due to ongoing protests. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (05H55) Protest reported Chestnut Cres in the vicinity of Engen Oak Fuel Station in KwaMamdekazi. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• VERULAM – 22 APR 2022 (07H10) Protest reported on Tottenham Road in Ottawa. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have obstructed the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• DANNHAUSER – 22 APR 2022 (07H25) Protest reported at the intersection of West Street and the R621. Taxi operators are blocking the entrance to Dannhauser. The reason for the taxi strike is unknown at this stage. Previous demonstrations related to taxi strikes were due to their impounded taxi and other issues related to the taxi industry. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 22 APR 2022
• PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 21 APR 2022 (22H50) Service disruption reported in Polokwane. The affected areas are expected to be the Northview, Thornhill and other areas. The Polokwane Municipality noted that the disruption follows an alleged identified cable fault. Further, the cable is expected to be fixed on Friday, 22 April 2022. The public is advised to treat all outlets as live during the disruption.
• PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 22 APR 2022 (06H20) Protest expected by the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) today, 22 April 2022, from 10H00 at Lepelle Northern Water office. Demonstrators are expected to gather at SABC Park and then proceed to the Lepelle Northern Water office. SAMWU will raise concerns regarding the safety of employees, the Board’s failure in its fiduciary duties, implementation of collective agreements, unilateral change of conditions of service and the insourcing of services at the waterboard. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the march. Police will be monitoring the protest.

• WAKKERSTROOM – 22 APR 2022 (06H05) Police Minister Bheki Cele and Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Executive Director Jennifer Ntlatseng are expected to host a community Imbizo at Esizameleni Soccer Field today, 22 April 2022, at 10H00. Wakkerstroom is marred by high unemployment, crime, human rights abuse and stock theft.
• MIDDELBURG – 22 APR 2022 (09H20) The Commander in Chief (CIC) of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, is expected to address the EFF May Day Rally on Sunday, 01 May 2022, from 11H00 at the Themba Sinamela Stadium.

• MAHIKENG – 22 APR 2022 (08H20) The African National Congress (ANC) National Spokesperson, Pule Mabe, has announced that the North West province and Free State province, under the leadership of the ANC Interim Provincial Committees (IPC), are expected to hold the provincial conferences in May and June 2022. Mabe stated that the provinces have confirmed the preparation work for regional and provincial conferences has been complete.

• DE AAR – 22 APR 2022 (06H50) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Bentley Vass, is expected to hand over title deeds in the Emthanjeni local municipal area today, 22 April 2022, from 11H00 until 13H00. Vass is also expected to conduct an oversight visit at the De Aar Housing Project 2386 site.

• CAPE TOWN – 22 APR 2022 (08H30) Premier Alan Winde is expected to announce changes to the provincial cabinet today, 22 April 2022, at the Century City Conference from 11H15. This follows his commitment during the State of the Province Address (SOPA) to push back against going back to normal and push forward to do better. Winde is expected to announce a new department for infrastructure and mobility.
